Q4 PC Graphics Shipments in a Slump, Competitors Eat into Intel's Lead
Market research firm Jon Peddie Research gave out PC graphics shipments figures for Q4 2010. PC and related products sales overall were lower than usual in 2010 as the industry saw propagation of ULPCs, netbooks, and tablets propagate, hence PC graphics sales, too, were lower by as much as 7.8% down compared to the same period in 2009. Sales of GPUs and processor-embedded GPUs in Q4 stood at 113 million units, 432.2 million in all of 2010. Intel continues to be the dominant player, though its market share was lowered by competitors AMD and NVIDIA. Intel's market share was lowered in 2010, to 52.5%, from 55.2% in Q3 2010. AMD/ATI is at the second spot with a market share of 24.2% (up, from 23% in Q3); and NVIDIA at the third spot at 22.5% (21% in Q3). Other smaller GPU vendors, VIA and Matrox, stood at 0.8%, and 0.1%, respectively.

Just shows you how many intel chipsets are out there been sold.
In fact by those numbers intel makes the best GPU's for the highest amount of people. Yeah really, is why i am typing this on a laptop which takes 250w to use and i can still play some games with it if i wanted watch some netflix movies in 1080 though my HDTV and still be using 170w less to do it.
People have different requirements. And IF i wanted to i could of easy enough of gotten a laptop with a 5450 but there is no need for me which goes for so many others too.
I don't need to be gaming at uni \ collage or work. As long as my main system can do it i am happy there is a time and place for that... Which i am sure a lot of companys think the same way
In the end it was more of a requirement to get a laptop with a 17" screen and a good CPU in it and a HDMI port.
Well no, intel makes the most of them, there for flooding the market with there GPU's. Go into your local computer store and add up how many there are with intel integrated graphics compared to the competition? I bet there is more intel based ones then any other.
i can get 720p playback just fine on a 1.6Ghz atm (with HT) and crappy intel 945 video.
i still think forcing people into the intel IGP is crap on intels part (hence all the antitrust lawsuits) i would prefer a good nvidia IGP or AMD IGP over the intel ones. this is why i have been buying AMD notebooks for a bit now. you get an NV or AMD IGP with them even the cheap ones.
Mind you, the fact that you can do limited gaming (i.e. DX8 games) at best is a good thing sometimes; workplaces anyone?
