Modern Warfare 3 new trailer, Redemption SP. Graphics as good as BF3?

There's a great new single player trailer just out for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It continues the story from the previous game and looks excellent, as you might expect. However, since it's coming out at the same time as Battlefield 3, one can't help compare the graphics quality between the two. MW3 seems to look like an evolutionary improvement, but still looks like "computer generated graphics", while BF3 appears to define a whole new level of realism which isn't that hard to mistake for the real thing if it's not looked at closely. Go watch it over at Guru3D at 720p and decide for yourselves. Note that watching the video directly on YouTube requires a free account registration due to the strong nature of the content, but not on Guru3D.

there is a big difference between dx9(mw3) and dx11(bf3)
bf3 is the way to go

Given the tough graphics requirement to run BF3 a 1920x, I might say Modern Warfare 3 might have more mainstream appeal for those who can a afford a new gaming title but not the new hardware.

Graphics seem the same judging from the trailer.

Personally I quite like the news I see on TPU these days.

I wish I could buy it when it gets cheaper but considering MW2+BLOPS are both still 89.99 on steam its not likely. Money whoring butt-bags is my only complaint.

If only MW3 looked like crysis 2 that would be sweet they should stop updating that old doom engine and use the cryengine 3.

If they would stop trying to bring out a new COD every year/November, then i think only then will they be able to really change their ways. Using a new game engine would be a great start in changing the franchise for the better. (not to say it's terrible right now, not just significant enough to warrant spending $60 on imo)

MW3 has better graphics? It looks the same as MW2 really. If its improved though its still derived from that dated Quake engine

If Battlefield 3 looks the same as MW3 then that really must mean Battlefield is piss poor in the graphics department since its supposed to be DX11.

MW3 is just the same old engine, i doubt they can change much more.

Meh.

I have friends clamoring for MW3. I told them they can find me on my PC playing BF3. I'm cheap, I'm only gonna buy one of them.

A first person shooter is pretty much a first person shooter. I can't WAIT to lay down in the bushes with a 12 gauge making people cry.

Already did due to horrid texture in Rage even in "8k" mode. You can't commit seppuku twice.

Graphics might be not as good as BF3 but u would not need GTX 580 in sli to run in in max settings to achieve playable fps :), and the story is allready much much better then BF3 can ever have ill be getting MW3 and BF3 when price of battlefield goes down to 15 quid

You don't need a GTX580 in SLI to max out bf3. I can run it maxed out on a single 470.

Dj-ElectriCI just love it when people treat the COD series like its only meant to be played by little kids.
^ +1.
Truth to be said though, there are lots of kids playing the game. And that's probably why the multiplayer gameplay is crap.

With Anti-Aliasing, if I may add. In a buggy beta with crap driver support (the preview drivers didn't do much -if anything- with my 580). But then, I don't think that BETA was DX11. Wonder what would it take to run it maxed out in DX11 mode.

The beta didn't have tessellation on. It also didn't have environment destruction on. Just pre-rendered destruction is all it had. You didn't see any craters did you ;) No things should get MUCH worse when the game drops.

Ya it wasn't DX11 as far as i could tell considering Tessellation is one of the DX11 features they are confirmed to be using, and that wasn't in the Beta from what i could tell.

With the inclusion of tessellation in the retail game, only then would i think you'll see a significant drop using older cards, my GTX 470 ran smooth as butter in the Beta for the most part, but it's an older DX11 card so with tessellation enabled and most to everything maxed out it probably would be practically unplayable.

the cod trailer is 90% pre-rendered video. it's barely any actual in game footage, and though what igf there is looks nice enough - it also looks the same as every other CoD game. nothing new that i see from this at least...

i normally don't talk crap, really. but i honestly see it as: mp that requires no skill , and sp that has not had a change to the story in a decade. only console kiddies imo can find that enjoyable. and that's not a bash on consoles, but rather those who actually can say CoD has a good story without laughing, or that there has been ANY innovation in their last 4 (soon 5) games!

There are very little technological "improvements" from MW/MW2/MW3/BO. This is obvious since these games are made for console first. There is little to no graphical or technological difference between the PC and console versions. Hence the term "console port".

MW3 can not even dream of touching BF3 in the advanced graphical technology aspect.

BF3 is a PC game, and for once, the console players are the ones getting the short end of the stick due to their 6+ year old outdated hardware.

MW3 = DX9

BF3 = DX10/11, advanced tessellation, advanced ambient occlusion, destruction and physics, and just more "advanced" in general.

You can spend all day listing whats "better" technologically in BF3 over MW3. However, this simple little pic I ran across sums it up so well.

Hmmm from that picture above, it seems as if they are just recycling the same stuff over and over.
