Intel Ivy Bridge Revised Launch-Schedule Revealed
Citing issues with the 22 nm manufacturing process, Intel postponed the release of its 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" Core processor family by as much as 10 weeks. There still seems to exist some confusion surrounding this launch, which SweClockers sought to clear with its latest article containing important dates related to the launch.

- 8 April, 2012: This was supposed to be the day "everything" (all CPU models slated for April, compatible motherboards) launched. Instead on this day, motherboard vendors will launch their products based on Intel Z77, Z75, H77, and B75 chipsets. System builders (you) will have to use existing "Sandy Bridge" processors, which are very much compatible with those motherboards. You will not be able to buy "Ivy Bridge" processors from anywhere on this day.
- 29 April, 2012: This is when Intel will launch quad-core Core i5, Core i7 "Ivy Bridge". On this day, the media will be able to post reviews of the new processor platform. It's not clear if you'll be able to buy these chips on this day, either. Perhaps you might.
- 3 June, 2012: This is when Intel will launch Q77 and Q75 chipset. The notebook platform based on "Ivy Bridge", dual-core "Ivy Bridge" processors, and the much talked about Ultrabook "Ivy Bridge" form-factor are due for "sometime in June".

We need to get this all straight.
We don't care about server chips, ONLY Desktop and Notebook chips.
When will they be available for purchase?
Is it April 8th, April 29th, May 13th, or June 3rd.
It's becoming a circus. First we are told that they want to get rid of the Sandy Bridge inventory and now they are having issues with the 22nm production, which is it?
Damn, getting an actual answer from people is like pulling teeth.
Please, someone contact Intel so I can buy the damn thing.
Waiting for my build to be bought and completed by April and the fact that Intel themselves is clueless is making me crazy.
All I want is a set date so i can start counting down the days :)
22nm manufacturing process might be the delay cause after all, because this is bad news not only for potential customers but for laptop manufacturers too.
Laptop sales have been falling and Ivy's relevant battery efficiency increase, thermal and power improvement is going to bring relevant changes particularly at professional mobile laptops...
Finally 8 hours of effective battery performance will allow for a whole day's work on the go.
This Intel caused delay will extend the low sales cycle. I would only buy a pre-Ivy Bridge laptop or ultrabook ONLY if Intel finally decides that today's selling mobile laptops I'd buy in Q1 or Q2 2012... will be compatible with coming Ivy Bridge CPUS so I might buy now and still be able to upgrade processors later on.
Sadly this compatibility is only announced for desktop IvyB motherboards, no matter it is perfectly technically feasible for mobile chipsets requiring just a BIOS upgrade. Actual official Intel wording negates this possibility so far.
If I were a Laptop maker, I would definitely ask Intel to open NOW this upgrading capacity PLUS I'd negotiate with Microsoft a Windows 8 upgrade code (buy-able today), lets say for $50, to give Q1/Q2 customers the future option.
