ZOTAC Working On GeForce GTX 680 with 2 GHz Core Clock Speed

Speaking at a conference of AIC partners, ZOTAC (China) General Manager Mr. Kwai claimed that his company was working on a "Godly" GeForce GTX 680 non-reference design graphics card, with 2 GHz core clock speed. The card will be designed to demonstrate ZOTAC's engineering potential with non-reference designs. It will be ready by mid-April, 2012. Then again, there could be a catch. ZOTAC China has, in the past, designed certain bleeding-edge graphics cards exclusively for the Chinese market, which never made it to Europe and the US. ZOTAC is an NVIDIA-exclusive brand backed by OEM Goliath PC Partner, which also holds AMD-exclusive brand Sapphire Technology.

Just just got real... for realz

And btw, want a godly GTX680? then pump up the bandwidth... no bandwidth? say goodbye to godly.

I'll believe it when I see it. I just don't know how they're going to dissapate all that heat it's going to put out.

This does sound a bit much to easily achieve on a large scale to be distributed world wide but to me what i think is most important is that if zotac is working on a 2ghz model then surly other company's will release ones that are at least a lot faster than reference models and i think i will be much more impressed by them and easily encourage myself to buy one.

Those must be some amazing mushrooms, i have never eaten a mushroom that made me think a mass produced 680 would hit 2ghz core

ah, I got it now why there is another six pin connector at GTX680 board

I'd like to see it. Only 1800MHz took LN2 to achieve here, so I can't see a consumer product coming out that can do 2GHz.

They didn't mention the cooling and if they are going to sell it with 2GHz clocks. What I can believe is that they can make non-ref board that will do 2GHz on LN2.

Probably translation error or misunderstanding.

Im guessing it would be H20 cooled.

It'll be 8+8+6 pin power like some of the cards Nvidia has announced. I don't think zotac has done much with custom coolers before although they have used and sold CoolIT sealed liquid cooling. They'll likely use a 3rd party cooler again.

2012 MHz?! :P

My heart believes this might 'just' be possible...

also guessing ZOTAC will crank it up to 2012 MHz! (pun intended! :D), possibly labeling it as part of their 'Infinity Edition' series... a la GTX580 IE.. traditional liquid cooling methods will be insufficient to keep the temps in check.. continuous sub-zero cooling is needed & the possibility of LN2 in a 'closed-loop' system with heat exchanger is not a viable/reliable option.. but sub-zero cooling can be practically achieved with thermo-electric (or) 'peltier effect modules' and here is a demo(click) of what is possible with a relatively simple setup... the heat exchanger for the peltier module in this demo was incidentally a cpu air cooler & the other(exposed) side of the peltier module freezes the water over it.. in fact, 'DigitalStorm' have their own sub-zero system based on thermo-electric effect called Sub-Zero Cryo-TEC System(click)

it will be quite an achievement if Zotac does make it..

but on the other hand my mind thinks:

To me they absolutely need to implement both a peltier and watercooling, to keep those temps down on the hot side. Because those things do get toasty, and no matter how great and cool your GPU remains, what good is it if it fries the rest of your PC? No, the only viable solution is peltier + water.

And then achieving 2ghz. Now that's another story altogether...

Oh I think he knows exactly what he said. He did NOT say they are going to sell this card with 2GHz GPU clock. Yet, everyone is expecting the thing to land on newegg at 2GHz GPU clocks.

When I clicked those pictures I expected to see phase-change, that was good for a laugh, lol. It's not even a matter of cooling just the GPU, that might (and thats a massive might) be possible with air, but the amount of voltage required for those clocks, the VRM's are going to be like lava, I just don't think air could pull off cooling the VRMs that well.

Um.. no. Not even close. I hope the card comes with some LN2/chiller/phase unit.
