Microsoft to Acquire Perceptive Pixel Inc.

Microsoft Corp. and Perceptive Pixel Inc. (PPI) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Microsoft will acquire PPI, a recognized leader in research, development and production of large-scale, multi-touch display solutions.

"The acquisition of PPI allows us to draw on our complementary strengths, and we're excited to accelerate this market evolution," said Kurt DelBene, president, Office Division for Microsoft. "PPI's large touch displays, when combined with hardware from our OEMs, will become powerful Windows 8-based PCs and open new possibilities for productivity and collaboration."

Founded in 2006 by Jeff Han, a renowned pioneer in multi-touch technology, PPI shipped its first multi-touch workstation and large wall solutions in early 2007. In 2008 its technology gained widespread recognition for transforming the way CNN and other broadcasters covered the 2008 U.S. presidential election. In 2009 the Smithsonian awarded the company the National Design Award in the inaugural category of Interaction Design. PPI's patented technologies are used across a wide variety of industries such as government, defense, broadcast, energy exploration, engineering and higher education, and its expertise in both software and hardware will contribute to success in broad scenarios such as collaboration, meetings and presentations.

"We are incredibly excited to be working together on our mutual passion to build technologies that enable people to collaborate and communicate," Han said. "By joining Microsoft, we will be able to take advantage of the tremendous momentum of the Microsoft Office Division, tightly interoperate with its products, and deliver this technology to a very broad set of customers."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval.

If u have heard there recently there was a way people could hack hotmail easily there was a loophole the way they stored their password hash or something .. alot of people who did nnot have viruses or anything like that still got hacked because it was a server side issue something similar to linkedin i think . Anyhow i guess someone used my account to send out spam i noticed this as someone sent an email to me using my email which i did not send anyway i told microsoft about it the thread was dead for more then 2 weeks.. so i did not bother and then recently they banned me , and said they have reset everything and the only way to recover is the email i used to create it which was just an alternative email i never used / that nobody uses tbh when peope sign up for an email they either use an alternative email they dont use or just leave it blank, but at that time there was no option to leave it blank -_- so now my 1000+ contact list is basically gone and my office documents. So after trying to get help a week now for posting again a mod responded but didnt help much so i contacted microsoft today and they say it will take 3 working days before they escalate my complaint / issue . Lol honestly i should just use gmail or my own email/domain . But i created this account way way back. Anyway sorry that this is irrelevant to this thread ,as always have a nice day.

Ah that stuff happened to you. It is a bitch and there's little they can do about it as they don't control the mail as such afaik. Had you used say a mail provided by your local ISP it would've been different, but a huge cloudbased solution with hundreds of millions users? Naah. To be honest the same thing could've happened if you had used Gmail, or any other suchlike service. I feel with you man though, I was at MS tech support for a while and sometimes this happened to people and there's pretty much nothing to do about it, unless you keep the alternative email up and running. :(

Which is why nowadays I have all my contacts in Outlook. :p

Why don't you just use gmail or something? Outlook is actually pretty good once you figure it out.

But they work under one roof ... even thought they are in different departments i mean microsoft is a brand and im not saying their products are shit i just feel they are lacking in certain areas that are also important .. you may disagree but you are entitled to your own opinion , im not unhappy with the whole microsoft i just think they should improve in places that are important i mean hotmail has been out for quiet a long time ..

ElmoBut they work under one roof
Sure, I work under one roof with the rest of my coworkers as well. I do some accounting and aquisitions, buy new equipment, etc. but it doesn't have anything to do with the other folks working on stuff in the next room over... And that's just a small company.

I think Apple would be wise to make an aquistion of Sony or Sharp. Samsung is already showing their colors and Apple is no longer using them for production of their screens. Companies will be companies, the only way to get things done is to do it in-house. Thus, in my opinion, this was a wise move by Microsoft.

Sony hasn't been doing well for the past 2 years. They let go of 10%-20% of their labor about 3 months ago. A company like this is a perfect scenario for Apple. Right now however, Sony is still worth A LOT of money, $13.5 billion to be exact. Apple has around $80 billion in cash and are worth $574 billion. A company like this is what Apple needs to invest in to secure displays as well as a large portfolio of valueable patents that Sony owns.

yeah, i think about it too
buying the company on some level would be helpful
you have its development, its patents etc
you just mix and match them.
and Microsoft do ;)

Apple aquiring Sony? No way man. For a start, Sony doesn't strike me as the kinda company to go in for that, neither would the anti-trust guys agree to it.
