AMD Helps Power Performance of All-Star Cast in Upcoming Hollywood Thriller

AMD today announced its role in the much-anticipated major motion picture sequel "Machete Kills." Written and directed by award-winning Robert Rodriguez of Quick Draw Studios, "Machete Kills" sees actor Danny Trejo reprising his role as the international spy known as Machete.

The film plot centers around Machete's mission to help the President of the United States, played by Carlos Estevez -- better known as the actor Charlie Sheen -- take down an international crime ring. To help get the job done, Machete and his counter-surveillance team rely on systems powered by AMD technology, which are featured in the film.
In addition to Trejo and Estevez, the movie also stars some of Hollywood's biggest actors including Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., and marks the cinematic debut of performer Lady Gaga.

"We believe this film is going to be one of the fall's biggest hits, and AMD is proud to be part of the magic," said Colette LaForce, senior vice president and Chief Marketing Officer, AMD. "It's exciting to see what AMD technology can do in the hands of one of the most innovative filmmakers of our time, and the fact that our brand helps Machete achieve his mission in the story itself underscores our commitment to delivering technology that helps push the limits of what is possible in our world."

Quick Draw Studio's visual effects division, Troublemaker Digital, uses AMD Opteron processors and AMD FirePro graphics accelerators on many of its productions, including "Machete Kills." Rodriguez is well known as an early pioneer in the use of computing technology to produce larger-than-life graphics and high fidelity imagery in major motion pictures.

"Editing, content creation and special effects were all made easier with AMD technology in our studios," said Robert Rodriguez of Quick Draw Studios. "We just had to put AMD's brand in the film as a special shoutout to a great technology partner, and we had a lot of fun bringing this sequel to life. 'Machete Kills' is action-packed and very visually rich, and we pushed our creative process even further on this release."

Rodriguez has used AMD technology to create a number of his previous films, including "Machete," "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams," "Spy Kids 3D: Game Over," and "Sin City" to name a few.

A special showing of "Machete Kills" will take place at the ninth annual Fantastic Fest Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 in Austin, Texas. Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world. A trailer of the movie can be found on the official "Machete Kills" website.

Yeah...people (smart ppl) LOATHE product placement.
Makes for a fun drinking game during a boring movie though...at least until you pass out after having to chug a beer/do a shot every time an Apple MacBook is seen, a can of Coke is used as a prop, and the star conveniently stands next to an autos badge.

Could be worse. At least with a Robert Rodriguez movie blatant product placement kind of blends in with the whole schtick. If you can get past the obvious pandering to the Hispanic/Latin demographic, the movie is pretty tongue-in-cheek.

At least locally here, Weta Digital's films(LotR etc.) aren't generally extended commercials (at least not the billboard type) as a general rule - although if AMD's PR works, maybe we'll see Hewlett-Packard, Intel, and Nvidia featured in future...I can see it now! Katniss stores her strategy for winning the 75th Hunger Games digitally...time is of the essence...NO TIME TO DELAY!...Katniss pulls out her....Acer Intel Atom tablet

Exploitation flick. They generally aren't huge budget by design since the target audience isn't broad based.
Looks like a reclamation project...Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen (as the U.S. President no less ) are both trying to rebuild their careers after some pretty weird outbursts

smart business loves it though..... true its a double edged sword but one must take risks.... if it becomes a cult classic... forever advertisement. Sides if intel can do blue people...(for ever burned into our minds for better or worse)... this aint too far off, Old spice and the dude with the talking abs...whether u use their product or not you remember. Still think they should've gone with fighting zombies though.

Eh. Did you see Machete?

Anyway Charlie Sheen can be a good actor when he wants to. But it won't matter much because this is Machete we're talking about.

What are you talking about?? Those were the best years! Back then the F1 cars were still looking and acting like top racing cars, not the jokes there are nowadays, both in design and performance.

Yes and no, i watched the original which was done in Puerto Rico in 1958 lol. And as for the remake ?, it's full of hollywood BS with a bunch of funny scenes.

Original? I've not read anything anywhere about it being a remake. This is what I found about it:
This 1959 film noir take on "Othello," filmed in Puerto Rico, stars Mari Blanchard as flirtatious Jean, who marries an older man, plantation owner Don Luis (Albert Dekker), for financial security and finds herself falling for his virile foster son, Carlos (Carlos Rivas). Fearing that Jean will inherit Luis's money, his greedy cousin, Miguel (Lee Van Cleef), poisons the bridegroom against his new wife, informing him about her passion for another.
Which sounds absolutely nothing like Machete (2010). And yeah it's Hollywood BS and that is the point really.
