If I may be so bold as to ask, what about those TPU users that dont use Failbook? Myself included...

"Entry into to giveaway is only possible after liking TechPowerUp on Facebook."

Just seems like a bit of a fail for the loyal TPUers that dont like or want to have a facebook account.

While I myself don't need anything from this giveaway, I'm joining for a chance to get a cool birthday present for my brother. :toast:

enough with the "i dont have FB" line, if you dont have FB then thats your choice. Comps like these arent meant to just cater to TPU members....

TPU has had other contest which do not require FB. Also, throwing insults at the intelligence of ppl that use FB is pretty childish. As I said before, if you choose not to have FB thats YOUR choice. Plz move along as there is nothing for you here.

Its not like this is the 1st time ppl crowed about FB contests here and it wont be the last. Go find another comp to enter that doesnt require FB, there are plenty out there

If you get a Facebook account and only use it to enter the TPU contests then you aren't being a typical Facebook user. Don't even add Facebook to your Bookmarks/Favorites so you won't have it tainting your rig. When the contest rolls around type it in your browser, quickly enter the TPU contest and then delete it from your browsing record while mumbling curses under your breath. Free hardware is free. :D

Forcing someone to "like" on FB may not be legal. A quick GOOGLE search found this:

www.socialmediaexaminer.com/social-media-promotions-and-the-law-what-you-need-to-know/

Consideration—something of value given by entrants to the giveaway sponsor. Often it’s money, but it doesn’t have to be. Depending on what you require entrants to do, you could be pushing the envelope on this element. Each state may have its own particular definition, making it very difficult to manage.

As such, requiring someone to “like” you or “follow” you could be construed as consideration. Even more important, asking an entrant to go to a third-party site, navigate to find a product or service and then report back to your site is even more likely to be deemed consideration, and thus places your giveaway into the classification of illegal lottery. Time is exceedingly valuable!

I get lost when it comes to legal stuff. It's very complicated but Facebook's Promotion Guidelines seems to say what TPU is doing is legit.

I would be happy with the 3rd give away (Just the case) my current case is the thermal take v4 mid tower, after buying it I knew it was't the best choice out there. It doesn't have front mounted fan/mounting holes, big issue for my graphics card because it gets quiet hot in summer with no front intake.

In Wisconsin, you cannot have a contest that costs you. So basically, they are getting free advertising by my "Like". Look and see how Engadget.com does this, they always offer 1 free entry.

The FB regulations allow to ask, just forcing people to like is no longer allowed. ie. incentivizing an action
