NVIDIA Announces the GeForce GTX 1080, Faster than GTX 980 SLI

NVIDIA announced its next-generation GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. Based on the "Pascal" architecture, this chip is built on the 16 nm FinFET process. It uses GDDR5X memory at 10 GHz (GDDR5-effective) clock speed. NVIDIA announced major improvements to the VRM that drives graphics cards, that increases switching efficiency. NVIDIA announced that the GeForce GTX 1080 is faster than a GeForce GTX 980 SLI, and a GeForce GTX TITAN X. The air-cooled GTX 1080 runs at a very high clock speed or 2.11 GHz, with 10 GHz memory clocks, at a temperature of 67 degrees C. Available on May 27, it's priced at $599.

699.00 is overpriced IMO. So aftermarket 1080s will be 750- 800.00 most likely so I will hold onto my 2x overclocket 980ti"s for a bit longer.

Wow you are wrong, MSRP is 600$, so they will start in 600$ range not 750-800.

$599 is a little steep. Going to wait for the reviews first. If it indeed delivers the 2x performance over 980 as promised, I might consider getting one after 1080ti is out (it will most likely push down the price of 1080).

980 become cheaper and "smaller Titan" 980Ti was released to spoil Fury (X), not because nZilla would just drop price for ya.

So unless AMD Vega launch in Oct rumors are true, don't expect any price drops any time soon.

Then you better hope the partners do undercut Nvidia with their $699 reference card.

One forumite has mentioned a price of R80,000 already, so the gouging has begun.
Converting a few of those prices shows discrepancies, GBP and US $ dont add up when compared to the Australian dollar, they are vastly different prices.

they never said 2x the performance of a 980, they said faster then a 980 SLI which nature of mutli cards you lose a lot of performance. Review shot its within 10% of 980's in SLI but 1 card vs 2 is still pretty good.

gtx980 started at 550$, that was mature gddr5 and mature 28 nm, this is new gddr5x memory which costs more, and new 16nm proc node which likely has lower yields since well its new.

Now I want to buy a GTX1070 non-reference, I wonder what bodypart I have to sell for that. :(

The prices in Europe are always MUCH higher than the msrp in the US :mad:

I can buy a MSI GTX980 Ti for 550 Euros at the moment.
