PS3 freezing a 'feature'

Apparently Sony may have been using a new tactic with the release of its PS3. Some of the demo units supposedly have a feature which means that the console will freeze or turn off after a while and is not a faulty machine. Although this isn't confirmed, rumours are saying that Sony decided to have in store PS3s that crashed sometimes to try and prevent people coming into shops and taking control of the PS3 all day rather than buying one for themselves. However, some shop assistants are thinking the console is broken so not even turning it on, which can't help sales much. If this is true it's certainly an intriguing new approach, but not one that's likely to be particularly successful.

"So dude over there," I said pointing to the busy clerk, "says he keeps the kiosk off because it keeps freezing up."

"Nope. No it doesn't."

"Well, actually, yeah. It does. I've seen it happen myself."

"No. It doesn't. We did that on purpose," he said.

"You make the entire console lock up on purpose because ... why?"

"We do that so that people won't play it all day long," he explained. "Specifically during Motorstorm, we made it freeze up a lot."
I loled so hard

Haha, at Target, in Jones Valley, they have the screen cracked and it turned off. They don't want anyone playing it is my guess, cause it does work. The bastards!

I talked to a manager in Game Stop about it. He said the demo that comes with the PS3 locks up, but regular games don't. I still thought it was pretty funny.

I'd never ever buy anything where the demo machine breaks/locks up/doesn't work. If it's on purpose must be the stupidest thing ever. Easier way to do it, make the electric socked work on coins, like every other porn machine&stuff. 1$/1€/1£ for 15min or what the store thinks is enough for one dude.
