Sony planning multimedia PS3
Despite having upset some users by forcing Blu-ray upon anyone who buys their latest console, now Sony are taking it a step further and planning an updated PS3 which is not primarily intended as a gaming machine, but for multimedia. The new version of their console will feature improved anti-vibration on the Blu-ray drive to make it quieter, 512MB XDR memory, an improved PSU and two HDMI connectors dividing the audio and video. The appearance of the console may be very different to the standard Playstation 3 but it should still play all PS3 games. The Playstation itself has always been made by Sony Computer Entertainment, however this may be direct from Sony and will probably be very expensive.

This will be taken advantage of by games?
So if I bought the 600$ PS3, then I'm already outdated?
Sony trying to give me the impression I should just spend the money and upgrade my comp with a DX10 card instead wasting time with its high_end_console/low_end_PC ?
Anti-vibration? Mine's very quiet already.... :wtf:
More advanced power supply unit? Why? It runs fine already. :ohwell:
Two HDMI connectors? For Sony, a few bucks and some wiring... :shadedshu
512MB XDR memory? Ok, maybe.... for a couple hundred bucks. :)
Where's the bigger hard drive guys??? Where's the video/audio input? Where's the direct DVI output? How about some firewire ports? iPod direct jack?? Multi what??? Media.... what???
I'm sorry, but this just seems absolutely absurd :twitch: .... Something isn't adding up here.... :ohwell:
So they've taken the initiative to correct the device, calling it an "upgraded multimedia device", but YOU CAN BET in 12 months time, it will be ONLY this model that they will manufacture and sell, and the PS3 (beta) will be graveyarded.
Sony makes the weirdest decisions :shadedshu
