AMD Says Vega Delays Necessary to Increase Stock for Gamers
In an interview, AMD's Chris Hook justified Vega's delayed release due to a wish to increase available stock for gamers who want to purchase the new high-performance architecture by AMD. In an interview with HardOCP, Chris Hook had this to say:
"Part of the reason it's taken us a little longer to launch Vega - and I'll be honest about that - is that we wanted to make sure we were launching with good volume. (...) Obviously we've got to compensate for things like coin-miners, they're going to want to get their hands on these. We believe we're launching with a volume that will ensure that gamers can get their hands on them, and that's what's important to us."
It appears that AMD tried their best to increase production and stock volumes so as to mitigate price fluctuations upon Vega's entry to the market due to above normal demand from cryptocurrency miners. The jury is still out on whether Vega will be an option for mining due to its exquisite architecture, however. Still, this sounds as good a reason as any to delay Vega for as long as it has been already. Just a few more days until we see what AMD managed with this one, folks. Check the video after the break.

Thanks anyway, its stuff like this that confirms the website belongs on my list of places to avoid, just like TweakTown.
At the same time, the best lies are half truths, so...
And this day, it's such a great solution, it doesn't beat GDDR in either performance or power usage. It may be the way forward, but if it doesn't offer anything in its second incarnation, it's pretty clear it's a product that was rushed to the market unfinished.
...when is it going to matter? When 4k is mainstream (currently less than 1% use it according to steam stats).
What is it offering at 1080p that gddr5x doesnt aleady fullfill? A couple watts power savings? Surely youve seen hbm and hbm2 does well where the bandwidth is actually needed...4k. Otherwise, there really isnt much use for it over gddr5x...
And BTW, AMD did not invent HBM.
Saying HBM doesn't matter because it doesn't have any significant benefits. How cramming 16GB of memory into a size of a SINGLE GDDR5 memory module isn't significant enough?
Seems like these days, TPU is filled with hardcore NVIDIOTS, who will refuse to accept facts and call anyone who presents them an "AMD fanboy"...
Its great they can fit 16gb... considering 6-8gb is fine for those that 4k... its anotber reason its well ahead of its time and doesnt show many benefits today.
Though, im sure youll gloss over that point of mine as well...
