Konami Charges $10 for a Second Save Slot in Metal Gear Survive

Metal Gear Survive like many other games requires the player to create a character in order to start the single-player campaign or play online. Everything is fine up to this point. However, only the first save slot in Metal Gear Survive is free as consequent save slots will cost a small fee. For example, players who want to do a second playthrough and keep their existing character will have to pay Konami for a second save slot. Each new save slot costs 1000 Survival coins. Therefore, players will have to spend at least $10 to buy 1150 Survival coins to purchase a save slot. The concept certainly isn't new as many online multiplayer games charge players for creating a second character. It's somewhat justifiable since you're technically paying for additional storage on their servers. But in Konami's case, it's just outright wrong to charge players for storing an extra save file on their own hard drive or SSD.

They can build all day long. They lost the tech to go to the moon, yet they want to go to mars. Think about that for a while.

You have actual documented astronauts telling us we cant go beyond low earth orbit.

I will just leave it at that. Let whoever research it on their own time.

Whoever thought this was a good idea needs to be sacked.

Just looked it up. It is in fact against the law to charge additional access fees to something a consumer has already purchased. Konami? Do you enjoy being criminals and thieves? I'm going to enjoy watching you get sued.

Metal Gear series is pretty much dead. Command and Conquer series dead some time ago and I'm sure everyone favorite series is either dying or long dead. Game companies just love making profits and not a lot of passion to make game a great experience for actual gamers. As long as the game gave quick bucks it doesn't matter if its dead within few weeks they just released another one rinse and repeat.

Didn't EA have around 1/3rd of the inital sales of battlefront 1 on battlefront 2? If i recall the total volume on the PC was around 1% while the two consoles split the rest, that sounds very much like they learned nothing. It's greedy arrogance since their deep pockets allow it for another try or two. And with EA getting bought by microsoft will only get worse. On the PC market they're more and more on the ignore list for many players, sadly they're being saved somewhat by "ignorant" (in the sense of unawareness) console users. Hopefully not for long with nearly veiled extortionist practices like these.

Typical Japanese greed and callousness.
And their government are still wondering why ALL their majoring companies went or are going down to toilet...

bugWell, kind of the whole point of the article we're discussing here is games aren't all about the upfront cost anymore. I mean even "free" mobile games come with paid-only unlockables that will set you back 4-5 AAA PC titles or with an endless supplies of consumables that you also get to pay for...
Depends on the games you play really. Not every single Triple A game that releases is trying to nickle and dime you. Heres to hoping this game sells horribly.

A fool and his money are soon parted --- end thread

As long there are people who keep supporting these shitty tactics by buying those games companies will continue to milk us.

AngryJoe made a video. It's not just for second slot. There is also 3rd and 4th slot. That's $30 extra just to save extra gameplays. Ridiculous. Someone actually went the length of coding this shit on top of existing save system just to milk gamers further. It's disgusting and Konami (or anyone else) ever trying the same should just die and disappear.

No comment. Move on, forget this title, it was never good in the first place. No one even wants to save more playthroughs let alone the first one.

MGS was dead when they butted heads with Kojima and the last part was a testament to that, go replay everything beyond the first chapter of that game for proof. Its dead. Bury it and move on.

Or better yet, install your emulators and replay the true works of genius that we'll never see again - MGS 1-2-3-4. You'll get to save everything you want!

Man... really, I had expected more out of you. Conspiracy TV... you must be drunk or something. I really do hope that's the reason you posted that.

They should have learned that it seems most gamers don't like getting bent over and bumrushed by the people they're buying the game from... see SWBF2.

The only thing Japanese about it is that Konami is HQ'd there. Otherwise it's just plain greed like anything else we've seen come out of the gaming industry lately.

Konami deserves to go out of business for this. A fine example of why some things shouldn't be done because they can be done.

Why is everyone freaking out? This is absolutely nothing new, WoW does this, FFXIV does this. Those are two off the top of my head that charge for extra character slots. FFXIV charges $10 a month per extra character if you are paying for a standard sub and a not premium sub.

This is not about charging for an extra save slot. This is about charging for a second save slot. Huge difference.

Is the second one not extra? You get the one, and if you need another one regardless if it's the second or nth it's still extra. That said MGS is pretty shit and if I can see this ship sinking right after leaving port they can too, and are reaching for whatever they can get their hands on, if anyone wants to give them $10 so be it.
