Shuttle Introduces DH02U 1.3-liter Mini-PC with GeForce GTX 1050

Shuttle's product family of 1.3-liter PCs has a powerful new addition. As the first model in this format, the DH02U no longer relies solely on the graphics performance which is determined by the soldered-on processor. For the first time, the latter is supported by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics chip with 4 GB of memory. This means that the DH02U is fast enough for fluent 3D visualization and to operate, via HDMI 2.0b, four high-resolution monitors in 4K at 60 Hz.
  • Suitable for ambient temperatures of up to 50 °C
  • Support for up to four 4K monitors
  • Available in two versions: with Intel Celeron or Intel Core i5 processor
As part of the "XPC slim" product category, the DH02U is supplied as standard as a barebone PC which, in addition to the CPU and the mentioned graphics chip, also includes the chassis, mainboard, cooling system and the fanless 120 Watt power supply unit. The DH02U sports an Intel Celeron 3865U dual-core processor that operates at a base clock rate of 1.8 GHz, while the Intel Core i5-7200U processor in the DH02U5 clocks up to 3.1 GHz and is able to handle 4 threads. The modern 14-nm microarchitecture and the maximum TDP of 15 Watt keep power consumption on a low level.

Taking off the cover of the steel chassis reveals room for a 2.5-inch drive in the form of a hard disk or SSD and two SO-DIMM slots which can hold up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory. An M.2-2280 slot is available for a fast NVMe SSD. The second M.2 slot is intended for WLAN cards such as the optionally available WLN-M accessory.

With minimum dimensions of 19 x 16.5 x 4.3 cm (LWH), on the back the DH02U features the four HDMI 2.0b ports, Intel Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, RS-232 and a 4-pin connection for an external power button. On the front, the DH02U connects to peripherals via 2x USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 in each case. This is also where you will find the audio connections. Windows 10 (64-Bit) and Linux (64-Bit) are suitable operating systems.

"We are clearly positioning the two models in the B2B sector," explains Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. "Conceivable scenarios for use include digital signage at the POS or multi-monitor set-ups in control centers."

The operating position is flexible - both machines can be operated either horizontally, standing upright with the optional stand (PS02), or mounted on any surfaces and suitable monitors, with the included VESA mount. In addition, the PRM01 accessory enables two of the devices to be fitted in a 19" rack. An appropriate cable (CXP01) for the remote power-on connection is also available.

The recommended retail price from Shuttle for the DH02U is EUR 726.00, whereas the DH02U5 costs EUR 999.00 - each including processor and graphics card, however not memory and drives. Both prices are ex VAT. The two model versions are available from specialist retailers Europe-wide as of now.

Wow, that is some shady as marketing, it really makes the i5 sound like a quad-core, when it is just a dual-core...

With these prices it is incredibly disappointing that they didn't use the i5-82350U instead of the 7200U.

A serial port was exactly what this system needed...

A lot of industrial equipment still requires an rs-232 connection, that's while you'll see this port on many, in fact nearly all, fanless and/or sff pc's intended for industrial and other similar applications.

I work for one of the largest companies in the world, in their supply chain structure. I can tell you outright that the RS-232 is mandatory for a lot of industrial equipment.

I guess if this device is fitted to do that kind of task, then I can see its need. But with a 1050 ti?

I am unsure about this PC.

The "Suitable for ambient temperatures of up to 50 °C" gives it away as an industrial PC but you're right, wonder what's with that GPU. In most cases the iGPU would be just fine and this just increases the price.

1050 ? when even bother ?

1st of all it's not needed for an industrial type of pc, and 2nd, it's one of the most worthless POS cards ever made for anything beyond general everyday email & surfing, and barely able to keep up with that anymore..... just drop it and the price by $100, and this machine will sell alot better :)

That is an interesting opinion not supported by gaming benchmarks all over the net, to say nothing of email and surfing, which can still be done effectively on a C2D. Your estimations of general processing requirements needs adjustment.

Not only would this little box make a great 1080 mid-range gaming system, but also makes for a potentially great HTPC.
