EPIC Games Store Offering Copies of "Metro 2033: Redux" and "Everything"

The EPIC Games Store, the digital storefront most PC gamers love to hate, has made available two free gamers for those who want to simply login to their store. The first game is Metro 2033: Redux, the updated Metro 2033 version that uses its sequel, Metro: Last Light's graphics engine. Besides the updated graphics, there are numerous quality of life improvements in the game, making it the definitive version of it to try out (if you have been living under a rock, or just haven't had any time for gaming in recent years whatsoever).

The other game is Everything, a procedurally-generated game that simulates mechanics and systems of nature. There is no objective in this game - the objective is just to immerse yourself and your time on a leisurely approach to space and planet-bound systems. Just log into your EPIC games account via the store and you can add both these games to your digital library (did I mention they're available for free?)

Free is good. I'm going to pick up Metro 2033 Redux. I've got Metro 2033 and played it several times but not the Redux version.
The game is a lot of fun. Just don't run out of air filters when outside.

"most PC gamers love to hate " yeah you started the article straight up with a bias. Steam fanboy vocal minority =/= most PC gamers.

They close to being the exact same thing except it copies Last Light's mechanics and features. They also added safes to Redux versions that you can open with a red key lying around in the area. They took off the cinematic where Hunter talks to Artyom's stepfather, I didn't like that part.

I think that is the point. He pointed out a simple observation.

And it's accurate. Read forums, steam reviews, etc. People are whining nonstop.

Giving away free games isn't a good thing, for nobody, don't get fooled by these fake gifts, nothing is free in life.

Not a fanboy, but you just can't decline the fact that Steam is the no.1 on digital distribution, and others just are minor players. Well, Origin has lots of users because Battlefield and other exclusives.

I hate that Epic's crapstore, but I guess that it won't hurt to claim the free games once a while, didn't do that until the last Batman giveaway. Not gonna spend even a cent there, never.

I dunno, I'm no fan of Steam or EGS or Uplay or Origin (I have 'em all), but when I can get free games that are actually good, I'm all for it. I've bought >200 games from Steam over the years, and their free games do not interest me. I'd subscribed to EGS because of Metro Exodus, and have since bought two other games (Sinking City and World War Z), I've gotten >10 free games from them, including Mutant Year Zero Road to Eden, Batman Arkham and Lego series, and I find their library of Free games to be quite good.

Yep, I was actually thinking, mentally masturbating over getting Mutant Year Zero Road to Eden from Steam (it was on sale), so glad I'd procrastinated, 'cause it showed up Free on EGS. Regardless, I'll support any online gaming distributor as long as I can get the games I want reasonably fast.....freebies go a long way to establish goodwill.

Already have Metro 2033 on Steam, got it for free as well like 2-3 years back. IMO Redux don't have the same feel as the original 2033.

They do that on every subject ever depending on where you choose to visit the internet.

Not sure if that is anything to go on. I do know Sweeney And Gabe don't go on it. They just look at the cold hard numbers... along with the rest of the sane world. That is how Sweeney figured out how this all seems to work in his advantage. Because it does. Even the pro-Steam crowd has no idea, but the exact thing they're doing with their fandom is drive people away from Steam and into EGS. Its the same as some random dude telling you you need to do all sorts of stuff for the climate because the world's about to end... response: you feel more inclined to give the middle finger and get an extra fat steak tonight. At least, that's how I tend to feel.

In the real world, BL3 is hitting sales records. Go figure

Yeah I always got that feeling too. Still can't put the finger on why, though the original engine was a bit more 'raw' and gritty. Different shading, etc. And it ran like shit, too, at least on the (Kepler) hardware at the time.

Funny on how the people who talk bad about the epic store will now accept free games from epic. If people really hate something they wouldnt accept anything from the place they hate. Lots of people really are cheap and/or two-faced, maybe more of the later.
I dont hate or like epic store, its another place to get games from.

I liked the original Metro 2033 better. The redux seems too...sanitized.

The grittiness is gone.

Best,
