Microsoft Issues Updated Animated Cursor Patch

Microsoft has released an updated version of its MS07-017 patch that fixes some incompatibility problems with the animated cursor vulnerability patch. Early installers of the original 925902(MS07-017) patch that was issued on Tuesday reported seeing error messages with their Realtek HD Audio Control panel. In addition to Realtek, users of three lesser known programs could be affected. Those programs are ElsterFormular, TUGZip and CD-Tag. Microsoft says the problem appears because of the user32.dll and the hhctrl.ocx files have the same memory address after the patch. You can download the updated 935448 patch from here.

Some websites that used animated cursors feature within IE could exploit the vulnerability that can potentially execute or download malicious code.

Another example of MS bad coding, without thorough testing, it's a patch for a patch.

this issue hit my server actually, and MS had no fix for it - only solution was to manually download the hotfix.

So it'd be great for some noob who has updates on auto and his sound just stopped working...

It should be noted that this "fix" is for Win XP. I'm gonna have to find a fix for my Vista 64 box as the realtek drivers are not working. I wonder how many people are affected by this, as I suspect there are quite a large portion of people have MB with the Realtek HD codec built into their onboard audio.

M$ pisses me off again.
