Sony Misses PlayStation 5 Sales Targets Due to Component Shortages
Sony revealed during a recent earnings call that they had shipped 19.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles worldwide since release which is 3.3 million units less then they had expected. This shortfall can be attributed to the difficulties Sony faced in acquiring all the necessary components however the company expects shipments to increase next financial year with a target of 18 million units. Sony also noted that game sales for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 reached 14.5 million in the last quarter compared to 7.9 million the previous year. The companies PlayStation Plus service saw a loss of 200,000 subscribers down to 47.4 million in March 2022 from 47.6 million in March 2021 while active monthly users also dropped from 109 million to 106 million.

So they quietly increased the prices for retailers or what? No wonder I had to pay €640 for a shitty bundle.
In the end they be alright, just maybe people are not up for paying $100 a year and see what MS have to offer as a better deal ?.
Still, 650-750€ is too much for a consone with some bundled games/accessories that most people don't want...
I didn't realize newegg was still doing any shuffles, I figured inventory kind of came around for the PS5 and possibly even the Xbox, but since I'm not actively looking for these consoles I guess I was mistaken. I didn't realize that that inventory issues were still a thing for consoles.
But at least the PS5 runs everything from the PS4 so when you feel like ditching the PS4 Pro you can still keep only 2 consoles (PS3 and PS5/6/....). The PS4 can run ps1 and ps2 emulators if you're into the homebrew stuff but I doubt it will ever be able to handle the PS3
Microsoft on the other hand did with there xbox series x console. They made it fully backwards to Xbox 1 Xbox 360 and all others. That was a smart move by Microsoft. Sony needs to learn that lesson again.
Not all games are backwards compatible. I'm wondering if it comes down to licensing fees because one of the games was The Simpsons Game and it doesn't work from the disc on the Xbox we have.
