Just out of curiosity, does anyone here actually own one of these $3500 desktop replacement, 17" display, 2 hours of battery life (if you're lucky) laptops? If so, do you own a desktop too? If you don't own a desktop, why did you choose a desktop replacement laptop? I'm just very curios as to who purchases these and why

The only benefit I can think of is to save space/ reducing clutter, i.e. you just need to connect a mouse, and you can start gaming. So if you double up the dining table as your gaming station, then the laptop will be great. The flip side however are that you are overpaying for the “premium” hardware that can’t run anywhere as quick as a desktop due to power and thermal constraint. In addition, you need to contend with the noise from the fans. They get awfully loud to try and keep the laptop from melting because the hardware can easily hit late 90s degree Celsius easily under sustained load. Battery life is irrelevant to gaming laptops because they are never build to last on battery. The hardware throttles badly when on battery, and despite the severe throttling, the battery generally can’t last more than 1.5 hours under load.

Too thin to be a laptop.

I will go with Eurocom or Sager for a True Gaming Laptop.

The grass ain't greener on the other side. Eurocom and Sager have stopped with real DTR gaming laptops. Both use Clevo barbone systems and Clevo have stopped produce LGA/MXM laptop models. All you get nowadays is the same thin and slimy. Put it this way... Older Msi GT models offered 200W graphics cards. All you get today is a TDP capped model where the max power from the laptop stop at 250W. And I'm sure @unclewebb can confirm the tragedy for todays gaming laptops.

If you move regularly because of work or other reasons these are handy. I used to travel once a month for 3 or 4 days in an earlier job and I seriously considered ditching my desktop and go with this kind of laptop. If you like pc gaming, the gaming 1000-1500 laptop could get short back in the day, nowadays I don't really think is the case anymore.

The only reason that I can see for spending $3,500 on a gaming laptop is for someone who spends a lot of time traveling and a desktop would be too bulky to have to lug around. I'm retired now but when I was working I did a good bit of traveling. Still I never spent more than $750 on a gaming laptop. That was enough for older games.
