NVIDIA Forces MSI to Unlaunch and Recall GeForce RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X Graphics Card Over Confusing Naming

NVIDIA has reportedly forced MSI to cancel the launch of its GeForce RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X graphics card that the company debuted earlier this month. MSI has also instituted a recall of the card from the retail channel. This is over its confusing name that makes it sound like NVIDIA released a "GeForce RTX 3060 Ti SUPER" SKU, potentially affecting the sales of RTX 3060 Ti graphics cards by other board partners.

"SUPER 3X" is an MSI brand extension given to a custom-design RTX 3060 Ti G6X graphics card that has an identical board design to that of the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM, which the company probably had a hard time selling, and later reconfigured as RTX 3060 Ti by fusing the shaders. Probably not wanting to bring its coveted SUPRIM brand extension to the performance segment, MSI decided to give it a new brand-extension. This co-branding job was so sloppy, that you can see remnants of the old SUPRIM brand still printed the card's backplate.

Makes sense. It's not a "Super" series chip branded by nVidia.

Indeed, only Nvidia themselves has the right to give confusing names to their chips, AIB peasants should be kept in line.

I doubt this would matter, product naming has been confusing for the past 10 years with 8 variants of the same chip.

Just add a "Duper" sticker to the box and Uncle Huang has nothing to complain about.

Now, now. Jensen can't have anyone beating him to the Ti SUPER Ultra XXX 69420 The Ultimate Force Kingpin Lightning Supreme Toxic Gaming FTW XTX Hall of Fame CEO Edition 6090 XT. That's just being a party pooper, no one likes party poopers do we MSI?

Because they manufactured like a billion of them for Chinese cryptocurrency miners and are now stuck with a vast oversupply since ETH moved on, with the company essentially sitting on stock and sifting it slowly so they can upkeep ASP by controlling supply. Lukewarm competition and sky-high prices and margins on the 40 series enables them to do just that.

Unfortunately they don't seem interested in opening the floodgates and lowering 30 series prices drastically to make them widely available like AMD has done with the RX 6000 series. That'd bring prices on Ada down, too.

I think the bigger issue is from like the 3070 down the pricing sucks and has sucked for a long time most of the 3080 and above stock is gone Nvidia and it's partners need to really lower pricing.

sethmatrix7Nvidia cucking an AIB? Nooooo waaayyyy
The AIB in question was trying to deceive customers by calling their card the 3060 Ti Super. Of course Nvidia is going to crack down on that, lol

Well they can always use google, or the manufacturer's website to search for specs? Or maybe kids these days are too dumb even for that!

Around here the "Gen Z" have forgotten what a freaking cheque is :ohwell:

True. Only nGreedia can sell a 4060 card under the 4070 brand, and with the price of an 4080 card....

Apparently it ain't selling so even they have seem to have hit a wall.

Not that amd was much better passing off a 7800XT as a 7900XT and thinking 900 usd was a bargain....

Sometimes I wonder if their product placement teams read forums like TPU.

I honestly wish I was a fly on a wall in the meetings these companies decide on product placing and pricing. I find it pretty fascinating how both AMD and Nvidia seem to have not read the room post the pandemic/Shortages and with most countries in an economic decline.

I'm not going to be as hard on the 4090 and 7900XTX they are the best cards each company offers pricing and naming wise but everything below that seems off to me.

I know for a fact that Nvidia has lurkers here because they popped up to try to do damage control during the GTX 970 fiasco. They weren't new accounts either.
