PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT Pictured, Confirmed Based on "Navi 32"

PowerColor inadvertently released the first pictures of its AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT Red Devil graphics card. These pictures confirm that the RX 7800 XT is based on a maxed out version of the "Navi 32" GPU, and not the compact "Navi 31" powering the limited edition RX 7900 GRE. The "Navi 32" is a chiplet-based GPU, just like the "Navi 31," albeit smaller. Its 5 nm GCD (graphics compute die) physically features 60 RDNA3 compute units, which work out to 3,840 stream processors, 120 AI accelerators, 60 Ray accelerators, 192 TMUs, and possibly 128 ROPs. This GCD is surrounded by four 6 nm MCDs (memory cache dies), which each has a 16 MB segment of the GPU's 64 MB Infinity Cache memory, and make up its 256-bit GDDR6 memory interface.

The specs sheet put out by PowerColor confirms that the RX 7800 XT maxes out the "Navi 32," enabling all 60 CUs, and the chip's full 256-bit memory interface, to drive 16 GB of memory. The RX 7800 XT uses 18 Gbps memory speed, and hence has 576 GB/s of memory bandwidth at its disposal. The PowerColor RX 7800 XT Red Devil has dual-BIOS, and assuming the "standard/silent" BIOS runs the card at AMD reference clock speeds, we're looking at Game clocks of 2210 MHz, and 2565 MHz boost. The Red Devil draws power from a dual 8-pin PCIe power connector set up (375 W max); the cooler is visibly smaller than the one on the company's RX 7900 series Red Devil cards. A 16+2 phase VRM powers the card. With pictures of the card out, we expect a global product launch within the next 30 days.

So it's a margin of error similar to RX 6800 XT in terms of speed. The only advantage is lower TDP. Untasty
unless the price is right but with AMD, it's never right.

Hopefully it will be priced sensibly compared to disaster that was 7900XT.

Unless there's unexpected improvements here, high clocks, reduced MCM interconnect latencies and so on, this appears to basically be a ~6800XT performance wise, which begs the question... why? the redemption chance is price, but there's no compelling reason to expect miracles there either.

The kicker is considering they wanted to charge 900 usd for the 7900XT what was the original plan for this. I think it's going to be a very meh 550-600 usd but if AMD want's a feel good launch they should price it at 499 max but I'm not holding my breath.

The funniest thing is Steve from HuB telling them the 7900XT was getting a bad review due to pricing and they were shocked.

$499 with a free copy of Starfield and I'd consider it. Maybe.

The safer bet is a 6800XT/6950XT for the same performance with a more mature driver set.

There might be some low load power improvements coming from a smaller GCD, smaller substrate, less MCDs, presumably smaller fanout link footprint.....MIGHT. There seemed to be a consistent bit of idle reduction just from having 1 less operational MCD alone (XT vs XTX), so it seems logical. But I'll wait for the reviews.

I wonder if I took a wrong turn writing off RDNA2 as old hardware in favour of 7900XT and not seriously considering a 6950XT. Somehow it seems like it's still a safe bet almost at the 3 year mark. Between then and now there were some seriously juicy sales on 6950XT. 7900XT and 4070 Ti have just been consistently embarrassing in $CAD in that time.

Reckon we'll see $499.......6 months after we should have.

83% of CU's and...half of "infinity cache" but higher clock and VRAM. I not sure that TDP be lower. Not sure for real world performance in games. With declared much more teraflops maybe useful in full size only for calculating of matrix?

Honestly, no, you did not. For what it's worth, RDNA 3 is the better architecture, even if the performance isn't there.

As far as pricing goes, I think they'll attempt to undercut the 4070 Ti by $50 to $100, so 699-749 for MSRP, street price a little lower. At $749, it's already $150 lower MSRP v. the 7900 XT, so sounds about what they would position the card right under it. At $499... it's all this card would be worth in my eyes.

The 7900 XT is apparently retailing for as low as US$749 from time to time, making that price range terrible.

Yep, yesterday Hardware unboxed posted re-review of 7900XT pointing out quite a few $750 SKUs so 7800XT needs to be at the very least sub $600 GPU.

I don't understand why you would spend any time at all gaming on this when you have a 4090 mate, you confuse the heck out of me.

Yeah, I agree. I'd actually be agreeing with an $550 price point if it performs around 6800 XT level

Yup. Radeon for Linux and Nvidia for Windows.

It’s also my hobby. Love to be able to experience the latest in hardware. I’ve wanted a 7000 series card since launch. If I’d been able to get an XTX right away I probably wouldn’t have bought the 4090.

Knowing AMD, they will release this 6800XT equivalent at the 6800XT launch $649 MSRP and then be surprised about the bad press and low sales before cutting prices a month later.

For me the 7900 XT could have been the 7800 XT. If the released 7800xt is not better than a 6900xt then don't bother despite the price. Unless the price is lower than a 6900xt that might be a consideration for someone rocking an older and much slower card. For me with a 6900xt, I'd rather wait for next gen to see what's released and where the prices are.
Although, the power color's red devil would have been my card to buy. Love the devils.

5-10% stronger than 6800XT in raster at best, maybe 20-30% in RT, slightly better power, but probably $100 less at least than 6800XT was on release. But honestly this should be the 7700XT for $499 and then it would make a lot of sense. Calling it a 7800XT will open them up to a lot of bad press when we see how little progress has been made this gen. Not that Nvidia is any better.

Some day Radeon team will figure it out. The 7900 GRE at $650 is the real 7800 XT. This is more like the 7700 XT.
N32 looks to be around 6800 XT on paper. So it must be priced lower than the going 6800 XT price which has been under $500 but is now about $530.

you are off here my friend, I got my top tier 7900 xt (i call it that because the XFX MERC variant is overkill and keeps it nice and cold even when oc'd) shipped and sold by amazon brand new for $705 and no tax to boot it was listed for everyone across the nation at $720 with a $15 coupon to clip at checkout, and the Sapphire Pulse XT was also selling for $720 during Prime Day sales last month), cause it was Prime Day, and if you use your Prime Visa card on Prime Day, you get 6% cash back to your credit, which negates the tax in my state, and I had $30 gift card on top of that (though this shouldn't be counted for other people of course), bringing it down to $680 after tax shipped - with starfield premium, which was a game I wanted to buy anyway, $100 msrp, so $580 for the 7900 XT. it was a deal I just couldn't resist. glad I didn't. it's awesome. it's crazy seeing God of War at 1440p Ultra settings at 150 fps on my 165hz display. man, its a sight to see.

if i get a better paying job someday, my next gpu might be the rtx 5090 when it comes out in about 3 years. the next step up for me will be 4k 32" 240hz OLED, which comes out next year, but no point in buying that until the rtx 5090 is out. so yeah, im set for a few years at least with my current setup, maybe even 6 years honestly, this is more power than I need at 1440p if I am honest with myself, and I doubt I can afford that super high end even in 3 years anyway. lol

going to be playing starfield on launch day, going to hook my 2.1 400w THX speakers up to my modi 3 dac, and crank it loud, so the space shuttle sound makes me feel like on the Dragon Rocket!

I understand all of that, makes sense. I can't talk, I have a bad habit of selling every new generation, it is an expensive hobby, and I need to stop. I honestly love my current rig so much, I think I am ready to stop and just semi-retire for a solid 5 years. I am super impressed with the quality of my XFX Merc gpu.

I think that's the point, Nvidia and AMD want to keep all options on the market equally uncompelling. Why compete on pricing when you can force customers to get less for their money. Not only do you make higher margins, the customer has to settle for less thus reducing the time between upgrades for them. You see this sort of tactic across a variety of industries because companies have learned it pays more to fix prices than it does to compete.

Yes I suspect you could be right, and the more I think about it, the more a take I've heard online makes increasing sense.

Both NVidia and AMD alike seem A'OK with this entire generation having lacklustre sales, as long as it normalises the pricing (both outright and the structure). Where top end products command ever higher price tags, and lower down the line up doesn't really net you much more, if any more, value - like it used to.

TumbleGeorgenot sure that TDP be lower
7900 XT is very close to 6800 XT in terms of appetites. With about a quarter CUs being disabled and clocks staying in the same range, it's not a matter of "if," it's more a matter of "by how much."
TumbleGeorgeNot sure for real world performance in games
About as much difference between RX 7600 and 7800 XT as between RX 6600 XT and overclocked RX 6800 non-XT. This makes 7800 XT possibly a couple percent behind 6800 XT in terms of speed.

And IDK about $500. This GPU is pure garbage for this money. Should be $400 at most.

Starfield is Skyrim, but in outer space. I plan to make my money by being a space trucker, and if those damn pirates try to take my delivery, well, as Tychus likes to stay in Starcraft 2 - "Hell fucking yeah, here they come boys" *tychus spits out his cigar*
