No Microsoft Zune for Europe in 2007

Microsoft launched the Zune digital media player in the US in November 2006. It was anticipated that Microsoft will introduce the Zune player outside of the United States in late 2007. Microsoft-chief Steve Ballmer now said in an interview with the German Wirtschafts Woche that the Zune launch in Europe is canceled for autumn 2007. He does not give a new date and blames the delay on the fact that MS is still loosing money on the Zune. In October 2006 Microsoft's Media & Alliance Manager Dene Schonknecht already said in the UK that the Zune might not launch before 2008. Microsoft is also preparing new Zune player models for Christmas later this year.

My sentiments exactly.

Good call by Microsoft - they would have lost even more money over here.

Maybe if they would have made it right instead of relying on their name to sell it, they wouldnt have a losing money issue.

Thats one thing that is a negative for MS (among other things). Their inability to make a bug free, quality product.

There's nothing wrong with the Zune. It's a great media player. It just added a lame wifi feature that nobody will use.

I'm going to Yrope next week, I can bring some zunes.

the wifi is only used to contact other zunes there is no other use for it

u have to use the zune program to put music and videos on it not even wmp11 will sync with it
and the program sucks and is glitchy as hell

it does not function as a mass storage device

its huge and ugly

need any more reason not to buy one. as my friend just bought one i sat down messed with it for about a half an hour and was like wow i though ipods lacked features but this thing is truly useless only thing it has going for it is at least the videos look nice

Probably nothing that much wrong with it, but it isn't really anything special next to the iPod video and the Creative video players (sorry, don't know which series does what). It just isn't the big deal M$ was making it out to be.

well in my view, the biggest problem with the zune is the size. it's kinda fat, i mean even the older ipods were thinner.

ha!

please don't flame a Zune if you dont have one...personally i have one and i picked it over the ipod video..why cause the screen is bigger and it plays movies in widescreen. As for battery life they are both about the same. and the Zune software..the new release isn't that buggy i havent had it crash once in fact the Zune syncs music way faster than I-Tunes. and concidering you can compress the files to WMA it can store way more than an ipod on it ;)..

so yeah i got my zune for 200 dollars new in circuit city thats 50 dollars less than an ipod and it even has a bigger screen and i love the interface how you see the cd cover on almost the whole screen its pretty nice.

and P.S there making a new zune ;P

well i agree that all those things you mentioned are good. idk about the whole software interaction compared to the ipod (because i don't have a zune, lol). oh and as far as compression, itunes compresses to and i believe aac is actually one of the better format (sound quality to size ratio). price..yes it beats the ipod, but i wouldn't want a video, the only reason to get them above a nano is for the video aspect, and i don't want to watch video on that small of a screen, maybe not even a zune size. i look at size and interface when i look at a mp3 player, and the zune really is just too big for me.

yes you make very good points with what you said but as a video player basically you are paying mainly for that, i was going to go with a nano but i realized i had way too much music, and i commute a lot far (like 2 hours) so watching a movie on a train or bus is awesome if your in that situation ;)

not saying the ipod is bad at all just saying the zune isn't either if anything should be the "ipod killer" it should be creatives media players

the creative m vision is alittle thicker than an ipod alittle smaller though same screen size but you dont have to convert movies like the ipod and zune, you can basically just click and drag...

oh and about whoever said you cant use it as a mass storage device. you can read up on it ;)

The Zune isn't widescreen. It's 4:3, and the same resolution as the iPod. However, I dumped a lot of widescreen (letterboxed) movies on my Zune because I take long flights, and the screen is MUCH easier to watch than the iPod's tiny screen. Also, the GUI is much easier, and faster to navigate than the iPod's.
