Huawei Ascend 910B Accelerators Power Cloud Infrastructure for DeepSeek R1 Inference

When High-Flyer, the hedge fund behind DeepSeek, debuted its flagship model, DeepSeek R1, the tech world went downward. No one expected Chinese AI companies can produce high-quality AI model that rivals the best from OpenAI and Anthropic. While there are rumors that DeepSeek has access to 50,000 NVIDIA "Hopper" GPUs, including H100, H800, and H20, it seems like Huawei is ready to power Chinese AI infrastructure with its AI accelerators. According to the South China Morning Post, Chinese cloud providers like SiliconFlow.cn are offering DeepSeek AI models for inference on Huawei Ascend 910B accelerators. For the price of only one Yuan for one million input tokens, and four Yuan for one million output tokens, this economic model of AI hosting is fundamentally undercutting competition like US-based cloud providers that offer DeepSeek R1 for $7 per million tokens.

Not only is running on the Huawei Ascend 910B cheaper for cloud providers, but we also reported that it is cheaper for DeepSeek itself, which serves its chat app on the Huawei Ascend 910C. Using domestic accelerators lowers the total cost of ownership, with savings passed down to users. If Western clients prefer AI inference to be served by Western companies, they will have to pay a heftier price tag, often backed by the high prices of GPUs like NVIDIA H100, B100, and AMD Instinct MI300X.

I can still buy Huawei laptops on my local Amazon, but not on Amazon.com. Buying new Huawei 5G equipment was banned on 31 December 2020, so perhaps it's not surprising the company has moved into AI GPUs.

Stupidity and arrogance at highest level. Well, maybe it must be mentioned that it is exactly the Chinese who work hard at the American companies, so that it looks like they thrive. They thrive because of the Chinese. But stupid racism.

After this event, we can expect the US government to double down to cover the failure of the latest doubling down in the series. To untrained eyes like mine, it looks like doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. But since I was told that governments don't do dumb things, they must have a well oiled plan they intend to do something with.

Very few are racist against the Chinese.
Everyone is terrified of the government and what they will do with the AI tech.

Taiwan is exactly the same ethnicity and race of people and have no such issues. They also don’t have a government that disappears people. Taiwan also happens to be the leader in semiconductors and no one seems to care, with the exception that they are 100 miles off the coast of China. Has nothing to do with race.

With people and news that are that much propagandized, the "Deep Research with Agentic Capabilities" of the latest OpenAI model is not off to a good start imho.

Every information processing apparatus, including brains and I expect any AI model, follow the rule of 'Garbage In, Garbage Out".

Indeed. It's a question of which garbage you prefer. The Chinese state media propaganda, or Western garbage of all varieties.

So maybe you should understand that a lot of people have been lied to to believe a lot of crap about China because it suits the interests of countries wanting to make you afraid and resentful about them.

Because otherwise, who will go to lose his/her life or legs on some chinese beach when the time has come ?

And this is the reason the racism you pretend doesn't really exist, is real and has a purpose.

If the chinese have such a terrible governement, why doesn't have it engaged in a war since 30 years, while the US for example has had a total of 17 years of total peace since it was created ?

If the chinese people hate Taiwan so much, why is China in fact the largest trading partner, by far, of Taiwan ? If you want to crush a country before invasion, you follow the US lead and sanction it to the hilt, reduce its population to complete poverty so that it falls like a rotten fruit. Like the US did to Iraq or recently Syria.

These are facts you can check on any source, like wikipedia. I don't care about what China propaganda says. It just happens that China never did anything against me or my country.

Like I said, these models crawling the web will spout a lot of garbage.

Propaganda is propaganda. The US, Russia, Israel, China -- there are no angels on this list, and it's not the point of the thread or my original comment to argue whatabouts among them. Your orignal comment was accurate, garbage in garbage out -- on that I agree. One such piece of garbage is that the world is racist against the Chinese people -- that is simply not true.

The Chinese people do not hate Taiwan. The government is not the people. Russian people didn't hate Ukraine, btw, and I know since I have family in both countries.

The world is not racist against China. A large part of the US is, and this is on purpose.

Chinese people are a lot more satisfied with their governement than people than the countries of the west are of theirs.

No one is more blind than the one who does not want to see. So I won't try but just point out that you provided absolutely no fact to support your position, and that for me is quite telling.

If the US want to establish democracy, maybe it ought to start with itself. Just saying.

As Ghandi said when asked what he thougth about about western civilization, he answered "that would be a good idea".

This is demonstrably false. The large majority of the US loves chinese people, culture, apps, products, food. Look at the Tic-Toc ban - how hard the government has to fight to ban it and its still not banned. You think China would allow Instagram? Youtube? You think they would think twice about banning it?

Most of the statements you said are propaganda.

Demonstrably false but you didn't provide any demosntration.

I made false/propaganda statement but that was just a statement on your part relying on absolutely nothing. Just blind faith.

We all live in 'democracies', and as such you may think that your ignorance is equaly valuable as my knowledge, but I assure you that it is not the case.

And if I were you, I would be worried, because the level of cognitive capabilities you display is rapidily become obsolete.

Ok, here you go:
1. Asians are the single wealthiest and most successful demographic in the US. Above whites by a solid margin.
2. Chinese food, culture, literature and entertainment is widely celebrated.
3. Chinese officials buy land and real estate in the west and send their kids here for education.
4. Taiwan (which is the same race of people as in China) is not subject to any controls, and is supported as the top Semiconductor power in the world.
5. Chinese social media apps are not banned in the US, but all western and Tic Toc are banned in China? Why are they trying to keep everyone apart? Hmmmm....

Aaaand there it is... and that is why people don't like Chinese government.

Chinese researchers cannot find grants in the US anymore because as chinese or chinese-american because they cannot be trusted by the us authorities.

This is the same crap that the US did to japanese-american during WWII.

Now thousands of them are returning to China, where they are welcomed and funded.

But yeah, no racism here.

One of those non racist american, when I pointed out that China produces 9 times more STEM students than the US, issued a non-racist reply that chinese STEM students are crap compared to american one. No racism here, just your typical superiority complex.

The racist thing is to even be astonished that the chinese have caught up with the US. The condenscending statements about food and culture are just the cherry on the top.

The chinese are sending less and less their kids to study in the US (check enrollement in the ivy league universities of chinese nationals) as they now understand that they must leave the us where they are not welcome. They also stopped to buy american brands like Apple.

Taiwan is a chinese island and even the the US State Department says that China mainland and Taiwan are the same country. Like the rest of the world. Somehow borders are sacrosanct only when it is about Ukraine. When it is China, or Kosovo, or Israel it become way way less so.

Musk recently tweeted that USAID is EVIL. Why ? Because, like the NED and other State Departement funded organizations, they are CIA fronts created to destabilize and/or regime change countries, notably using american social medias. On the contrary, China interacts with lots of other countries but a thing it does not do is trying to force its own political system on them. Controling your information space when confronted by a power like the US is just defense of your sovereignty, plain and simple. The TikTok ban came back some time ago because Israeli soldiers had the bright idea to document their various war crimes and crimes against humanity on it. The US cannot have that since it relies on it being seen as a good guy. So sell me TikTok or go away. Does that answer your bewirlderment ?
phanbueyAaaand there it is... and that is why people don't like Chinese government.
Because they tell the truth and that annoy you ? And what have I to do with the chinese governement ?

Also, because all you seem to be able is to repeat what you heard without any trace of skepticism or understanding : authoritarian governments like the one of China do not need to propagandize as much their population compared to democratic ones. If they don't like something, they just order it to stop. While the US governement uses a lot of various way to propagandize its population to herd it in the way it want them to act and think, because it cannot intervene directly. That is how democracy works. Did you think it was the world of the carebears ? And when all else fails : Julian Assange.

"Stop the political propaganda, or I'd get really pissed, ban you, and burn all your flags while eating popcorn!!" — if I were a mod, that's what I'd say.

Oh well... inference will run smoothly on a wide range of hardware. Large-scale training is the challenging part, and even AMD seems somewhat lost on it.

Isn't that the prefered way in the US to "disappear people" or annoying facts ?

No so different in fact.
