Battery recall continues

After the well known Sony notebook battery issues sparked off worries among numerous companies last year, the problems aren't over yet, with Gateway having it's second recall in under a year. The notebook maker has now announced that it is to recall a further 14,000 batteries - on top of the 35,000 Sony batteries it recalled in October. This time round the batteries for the 400VTX and 450ROG laptops manufactured between May and July 2003 are to be replaced, with the battery model numbers being 6500760 and 6500761 respectively. If you suspect you may be affected by this, visit this Gateway site to find further instructions.

why is it so hard for battery makers to get their products right? This is why Im put off on getting me my own personal laptop. I use and older DELL LATITUDE D610 at workwith windows 2000. Id be hesitant with any of the "newer" models that are guilty of this recall

Call me a xenophobic asshole if you want to, but I'm sure a lot of the problem lies with the increased production that's been given to our new totalitarian (and quality-ignorant) friends in the East.

What the fuck?

Don't let a recall scare you. It's not like every single one is going to catch fire or something. It's a precaution. If you need a laptop, get one. Go with Dell or HP instead of Gateway for now. :D

A recall really shouldnt impact a choice of where to buy. (Unless it was a poorly designed model)

Why?

Because they've "isolated" the problematic batterys are should have them away from being sent into public use.

If a company doesn't do this they'd likely be fined pretty heavily by a government org.

How do I know this?

I work in a company and see how they handle defects -personally- ;)

GJSNeptuneWow.
If you haven't noticed this is a universal sony battery recall.. so I doubt you're going to be able to avoid sony batterys at ANY manufacturer.

And I'd say buying from HP/dell are likely to get you into the NEXT batch of defective batterys, rather.
