America's Army Celebrates fifth anniversary

Since America's Army was first released, people have claimed it was nothing more than a propaganda tool, designed to get kids hooked onto the idea of joining the American military. Regardless of the ulterior purpose of this game, it is massively successful. America's Army has been released 23 different times (different versions on different platforms), and the original has been in circulation for five years. The internet based game currently boasts 8.5 million registered users. Assuming that the registered users are the active users, this game is more popular than World of Warcraft. Ironically, said users are generally not from the United States. Most AA players are from over 60 different countries.

If you haven't played America's Army and would like to try it out, please get a demo off of FileFront. America's Army missions are sometimes used to train American soldiers.

Yeah, if it ever shows up it's getting a court martial and heading straight to Leavenworth!

I think it was a good game. Multiplayer sorta sucked when it came to killing people.

Some of it is too realistic, other parts not realistic enough.
The training was relatively good, that damn special forces course was a BITCH.

It had some potential...at least it was free

Yeah, I thought it was really fun. However, my hard drive crashed and I didn't really want to reinstall it because the training alone took so long...

I downloaded it on July 4th five years ago. I was on dial up then. ARGH! I had to use a dl manager to get the large files off the net. I was playing it right from the launch, even on dial up amazingly. I played the heck out of it at the begining but as it grew my dial up couldn't hang with the other players, so I sadly stopped playing. I would say it is a better game then even CS S.

I later picked it back up but couldn't find my original account info. and had to create a new one and redo training. ARGH! Then I found my original info. ARGH!

I think I will be off to dl the current version now. Thankfully on DSL now. Some AA sounds fun.

Maybe see some of you in AA sometime. I am: XLEnduroMan :rockout:

God I remember when that game actually worked better on dialup.
I was playing with Cable and my mate was using dialup like many others in the server and I was the only one getting lag lol.
