ASUS Prepares X38 Express Motherboard

ASUS is finalizing its X38 Express based motherboard for shipping early next month. The upcoming P5E3 Deluxe supports all LGA775 socket processors, including the upcoming Penryn CPUs. The board only accepts DDR3 memory. ASUS opted to implement two PCIe x16 slots for ATI CrossFire multi-GPU support. The ASUS P5E3 Deluxe has three standard PCI slots. The P5E3 Deluxe also has two PCIe x1 slots. Other notable features of the P5E3 Deluxe include single IDE port, onboard high-definition audio, Gigabit Ethernet and six SATA 3.0 Gbps connectors. ASUS also employs a heat pipe cooling solution to cool the X38 Express. Expect the ASUS P5E3 Deluxe to show up in retail next month.

This is the board that I've been waiting for. Hopefully it is one that will allow CPU and video card upgrades for some time. I don't want to get locked in with a board that won't support new stuff.

Nice. Chipset cooling looks decent, all 4 PCIe slots are usable, has the latest in features.

Unfortunately I don't want to go with DDR3 right now. Maybe there will be more options by the time these boards ship (read: 4GB kits).

That's nice. I wish mine supported DDR3... or does it?

Yup.

I didn't mean for 4 video cards, just that's there 4 usable slots even if there are two double-slot video cards.

I know some people would rather have the PCI slots uncovered - but I'd rather have more PCIe.

Wonder what fsb's these things will hit....

Btw, ddr3 only? I would think they're going to come out with a ddr2 version, but who knows.

More motherboard manufacturers will follow on the DDR3 road. The very few companies that are pushing it right now are influencing others to do the same, and hence will make DDR3 the norm and drive those hideous prices down. Hooray for Asus.

X38 is an HIGH-END chipset. So it's not suprising that manufacturers want it out as DDR3 flavour only.

hopefully they will get a ddr2 version. Im also hoping these have at least one PCI slot. Not every hardware maker is on the PCIe bandwagon. Not to mention, the integrated audio is probably craptek.

I wonder who will stock this thing first. If I could pre-order, I would in a heartbeat.
