K10 Breaks 30,000 in 3DMark06

The Inquirer is claiming that they have some benchmark scores to disclose with AMD's K10. They say that it was running on the RD790 chipset, with two HD 2900 XT cards, and some Corsair's Dominator PC2-9136C5D. They clocked it at 3.0 GHz with the video cards clocked at 830 MHz for the GPU and 900MHz for the memory. They ended up with a score of 30,031 in 3DMark06 a new world record if true. They didn't point out what kind of cooling was used, but if it was just your standard heatsink. Expect even higher scores to be reached after their release.

I'm sorry, but that seems like the biggest hoax ever.

This means that the K10 (Dual/Quad?) gained over 12,000 CPU points at 3.0Ghz.
While the QX6850 gains only 7,000 points when clocked at 5.3Ghz.

The Inq does it again.

weer i thing that you are the intel fanboy of the posts you forgot 2 major thinks
1 it is a 3 ghz phenom hence quad but not official produce nor announce to ship
2 clock per clock the 3ghz phenom will be a lot faster than the current c2q but not the next gen
3 its a demo ... it really fast because it has to ..
4 i am the fanboy of the amd side i will laugh at intel a long long time

Very interesting, lets see what the actual bench marks are when they are officially posted. :toast:

If they are, this only supports my gut feeling of waiting to build my next system. Either way I am hoping that this is true for everyone involved. This would indicate that AMD has been hiding "something wonderful"....hmmmm...sounds like a the average HAL1000 response....:)

No, I am not a fanboy of any kind. I think that this article is exhibiting AMD fanobiyism, because it's lying on behalf of AMD to spark false and unjustified hype.
von kain1 it is a 3 ghz phenom hence quad but not official produce nor announce to ship
So you're saying that it's a Quad but not even the official product? Doesn't that make even less sense, since it should perform worse, not better.
von kain2 clock per clock the 3ghz phenom will be a lot faster than the current c2q but not the next gen
Yeh, but not 4 times better.
No one will believe that 3.0Ghz K10 gets 12,000 and 5.1Ghz Conroe gets 7,000.
von kain3 its a demo ... it really fast because it has to ..
This is a vague point. I'm comparing it to the 3DMark06 world record holder.

Well, good way to throw out any credibility you still had.. :shadedshu

Well they say AMD's quad will be different than Inte's quad. They say that they didn't glue the cores together like Intel did. Will it be a CPU killer of all time so far? Who knows until we get some screen shots that verify it.

This news could be true, because The INQ does release real information from time to time.

Is there any chance of running SLI with the RD790?

This part kinda throws me off:
When running at 2.5GHz, the 3DMark06 score ended at 23.768, so we were thrilled to see such a good score coming from two 512MB cards. This showed the clear potential of this four core processor marchitecture, but the helter skelter ride happened after we overclocked the processor to 3.0GHz.
That is a huge increase for 500mhz more. Also note, that if this is real then it is really big news because it was a machine with 4gb of ram running Vista x86. Imagine the score running xp x64 (where the os has more mature video drivers, and the full 4gb of ram are recognized).

2900s aint overclocked when looking at the 1gb version :p hehe, but then again, there are 3ghz + phenoms, so all could be stock potentially

If I'm honest this is one of those times that I actually believe theINQ, they don't write like that unless they really mean it. The style changes dramatically when it is fake news that they are reporting, you could see the flare in his writing reflect the disdain at the loss of that hardware... (his whole inventory of hardware - must be worth at least £20k- was stolen from his hired VW)

Im just a little hesitant to believe this.....for now. Im an AMD fanboi bigger than shit, but even I know its a little far fetched, especially with a 2 GHz handicap to that 5.1 Ghz C2D/C2Q.

While Im optimistic these numbers could prove true and the K10 will be extremely beautiful, Ill hedge my bets for now until something substantial is released.

It wasnt the whole system that was stolen just his laptop with pics. "The pics are gone with my stolen laptop, though".
