Halo 3 Gone Gold

Microsoft today officially announced that Bungie's Xbox 360 sci-fi shooter sequel has gone gold and is on track for its September 25 worldwide release. After 3 years in development Halo 3 is now officially finished and 27 days away from all players.
This is a huge milestone for us and a big cause for celebration at Bungie and Microsoft Game Studios
This is the game we've always wanted to make and certainly the best game our studio has developed. We can't wait for gamers to get their hands on it on Sept. 25.
said Harold Ryan, Studio Head at Bungie Studios.

It's finished, and has been placed on a Master Disk (several actually) to be distributed for pressing. Usually once a game is complete it is burned onto a disk that uses a gold dye for superior longevity, and is burned at 1x speed - Hence the phrase "gone gold" .

And also, YAY! :)

wait, the way i understand it is that stuff goes gold/platinum when they reach a high number of sales. does this mean that they have gotten such a large number of pre-orders? how horrible is it going to be at bestbuy for the next three months when people actually try to touch the package?

World Wide Release!!! Cool! Square Enix should take a hint... :( When they release Final Fantasy XI (an MMO) they let the japanese lvl up their characters for 1 year, then they released it to America, sticking us in the same servers as the Japanese. Really irritating - especiall when you have to pay a monthly fee to enjoy the game...
