Intel Prepares DX48BT Motherboard with X48 Chipset

Intel plans to have an updated version of the DX38BT motherboard using the X48 chipset during the first quarter of 2008. The X48 is essentially a cherry-picked X38 chipset with better overclocking ability and support for 1600 FSB. More importantly, the X48 will fix the EIST bug present in the X38 chipset that requires manufacturers to rework their X38 motherboards.

Intel really need to get with the programme and start to guarantee the upgradeabillity of its products with an expiry date or something similar.

then nobody would upgrade to new things... hence them losing money... plus they try to its just that technology grows so quickly it's hard for companies to keep up with it and put it out fast enough before newer technology is available

While I agree that some chipsets wouldn't be capable of these high fsb, the fact remains that Intel locks out some chipsets from being able to use newer cpus. Just look at all the perfectly good mobos that were around when Conroe released. They gave some BS reason about voltage regulation or something as to why you needed a new chipset/mobo. Yet, Conroes ran fine on those boards with hacked BIOSes. Not that AMD are saints either. Look how fast they killed 939.

But, back on topic and a bunch of questions. lol: Are X38 chipsets even available yet? I haven't seen any in the wild so far. And I wonder what kind of premium X48 is going to command over it's X38 brother? I would also like to know what the "EIST bug" is.

thats not the issue, im saying amd is fully capable of future proofing with their motherboards, which means we dont have to buy a new mobo when a new cpu comes out. thats far less unfair than intel FORCING you to upgrade

X38's have been available here (England) for the last week, but the only one thats been in stock anywhere is the Gigabyte DQ6, for between £165 and £185, komplett also has a DS5 board listed (but not in stock) for £150, a few places have Asus Maximus' on pre-order too

I would also like to know what the EIST bug is too!

Not too sure myself.. but it stands for Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology so I guess something related to the CPU throttling.

Though narrowed down, I still don't know what kind of throttling bug this is???

Its just kind of ridiculous to release the X38 and turn right around and release the x48 which is better.
