R680 to Possibly Arrive by End of Year

While AMD is working very hard to ensure the RV670 launch will be a success, we're hearing very little about the alleged "R680" graphics card. According to AMD's partners, R680 is indeed a real AMD graphics card that is currently in development. At this point, it is supposedly a dual-RV670 solution, and we may be seeing it in retail channels before Christmas. We'll keep you posted.

O it will be CF BUT they will be forced to make it work right:)

I don't see them droping support overnight

ooooh, does that mean quad crossfire on a standard 2 x pcie mb??? And a 2kw PSU of course lol :)

This will be the 2nd card that ati release with the twin gpu design that I know of. There was the X1950pro that sappire bought out... correct me if I am wrong but that didn't do all that well, possibly because it came out just that bit late..

two rv670 gpus on a single PCB.

edit: nvidia is coming up with a similar card, but it is going to be 2 g92 gpus on 2 pcbs. Not sure how that's going to work. Also, another highend single gpu card g100 or something.

RV670 is 2 VPUs on a single PCB, like the previous Gemini cards.

This gives you the opportunity to run OCTO-Crossfire in a 4 PEG MoBo.

Fianlly maybe a justification for advancing the super-tiling option in Xfire.

Wha? That is news to me, or did you mean R680? At this point in time the dual card theories are simply speculation, anyways...

good news to hear, but I really would like them to up their hd2900 xt a little and also, if possible, come out with an XTX card. If nothing else, make a revised 2900XT (call it 2950 or whatever) and have it topple the GT and GTS (all scores, not just half and half) and then compete with the GTX and Ultra cards.
