Sony Planning to Sell 11 Million PS3s by Late March
It looks like Sony is being quite optimistic about its PS3 sales up until the end of next March, saying that it expects to have sold 11 million PS3s by 31st March next year - and that's sales to end users, not just shipments to retailers. Jack Tretton, who is the chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America said:

We expect to sell 33 million pieces of hardware across the three platforms. And that breaks out to 12 million PS2s, 11 million PS3s, and 10 million PlayStation Portables, and then we don't break out software, but our forecast is 250 million units of software across those three platforms.Sony had sold 7.47 million PS3s worldwide by the end of November, so that works out at needing to sell almost 900,000 units a month until the end of March. Given that it sold less than 500,000 PS3 consoles during November, and that was largely helped by Black Friday and the holiday season, Sony must be banking on incredible sales during December in order to reach this projection.

Its bc of the backwards compatability.
The 40GB doesnt have any so you gotta either get the 80GB or try to find a 60GB (good luck on that one).
These games will move the PS3:
Haze
Final Fantasy
Killzone 2
GT
LittleBigPlanet
I think they could make that target i dont want them to but thats what i think people just like brand recognition and whether they played a console before or of there mate has one.
Like my mate and i have 360s, my cousin played a psp and without playing a ds he wants a psp, sometimes i hear people sayin that they want a ps3 coz the controls are different on a xbox 360 from a ps2 and coz a ps3 has same controls its easier for them to play or that a coz they had a ps2 they just want a ps3 which is lame i personaly pick whats got the best console through logical choice i mean i sucked at original xbox and didnt own one but i still got a 360.
whatever i think sony will make that target coz those average joes in the UK that dont want a wii or already have one usually say oh i want a ps3 but never buy one.
You can get a blue ray player for $400 (dont forget that if you get a Sony Credit Card you get $100 off) - $500.
For the HD DVD player you do have to pay more for the XBOX360.
But then again the 360 has the games whereas the PS3 doesnt yet.
I must say that I have both and I play both evenly thus far.
Also wasnt MGS4 delayed until 2Q 2008 hmmmm methinks that PS3 has its work cut out for it to have almost 4 million people wanna buy a PS3 just for Haze and Little Big Planet:laugh::laugh:
But Im willing to bet it may only sell a decent amount. You don't have to be an overpaid analyst to give a pretty accurate description of the future:toast:
There are so many things coming to the PS3 in the very near future that the 11 million prediction doesn't surprise me in the least bit.
Furthermore, you need to understand that GAMES aren't the only thing selling the PS3.
Also, you and I have no idea what Sony has up its sleeve for 08', however, the analysts have a pretty good idea of the market and how to come up with sales figures. These people aren't overpaid in the least bit, they get paid the money they do because they know their sh**, that's what a college degree got them.
Also you really think that a few million NON PS3 owners will be buying a PS3 just for Haze. Please, Even if it were to somehow match the number of sales that Halo 3 reached most people that bought Halo 3 already had a 360 (although not everybody, just the majority) Why would the PS3 be any different?
Will Haze make heads turn in awe? Answer: Yes
Will Haze have good sales on the PS3? Answer: Yes
Will it sell millions of PS3's just so people will buy the game? Answer No way in hell
Will people be buying hundreds of thousands if not millions of PS3's just for the Blu Ray now because of it's price? No way in hell Sure the new price will be causing people to look at it but really its not going to shift a whole lotta units. I guarantee you it.
Im edumacated enough to know what im talking about and that im not pulling it put of thin air either. I may not have a degree in college yet (but im working on it) but I do know a thing or to from Business and I know what the hell im talking about.
We are close to the apex of the buying season for the majority of the world, and they are planning to sell them to the broke and stretched people after the holidays? Mebey Satan, oops I mean Santa will buy them.
Anyway, time will tell.
