The number represents the month and date of the first PlayStation console launch.

We've had five fantastic console generations since the launch of our very first PlayStation console. We're proud of the innovations and experiences we've brought to the PlayStation community over the years as we kept up with the latest technology as it advanced. In the early days, the number of pixels was around 300-thousand, and now it is more than 8 million pixels for 4K on screen. Additionally, stereo sound evolved into surround sound - and now we are using 3D audio. The game controller has also evolved, starting with buttons, then came the analog stick and later vibration - and now we have haptics and even adaptive triggers. Everything we've done is to ensure PlayStation is the best place to play. We believe the beginning of our journey is an important part of our history at Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is why we are honoring this moment by bringing the original PlayStation design theme into the latest products for PS5 to commemorate the last 30 years. As we look ahead to the future, we will continue to innovate as technology evolves, so you can enjoy each memorable moment in your continued journey with PlayStation.

Please be sure to check in with us regularly on our 30th anniversary webpage as we'll have more fun celebration activities as we head towards our 30th anniversary.

We'd like to give a heartfelt thanks to everyone for being a PlayStation fan over the last 30 years. There are plenty of great experiences to come and we look forward to the next 30 and beyond!

Agree! Looks nice. Interested depending on the price as I'd like to move over from a PS4 Pro (first gen) that has noisy fans.

Damn these are nice. Wouldn't mind that classic grey in a $450 PS5 Digital, but of course that'll never happen since they are limited. Might at least snag a controller in that color for Steam gaming if they are readily available.

30th anniversary

Man, this makes me feel old (even though I'm in my late 30's). I can remember getting Crash Bandicoot with mine. Original PSX is home to two of my all-time favorite games, Jet Moto 1 and 2 (those soundtracks!) and Final Fantasy VIII. I remember my cousin had a PSX and whenever I'd go over his house, we'd play Jet Moto and whenever I started beating him, he'd rage quit and reset the damn console, LOL

Good times, indeed.

Always been a N64 guy. No nostalgia for me here. Though I expect these to be scalped to the high heavens

The cynic in me wants to call out how this is basically a different color with some cheap crap - plastic cable ties, paper clip (wtf?), sticker, etc - added on top but damn if it all doesn't look so awesome, and I didn't even have a PS1. Nostalgia sells!

Might finally make me grab a Dualsense Edge, the consoles look nice but no way I'm spending whatever much they'll cost especially when I have a perfectly working PS5 right next to me. Having a limited edition Playstation Portal would also be kinda cool but that thing is a product that makes no sense and this wil be even more expensive than the original so hard pass.

The limited editions will of course be limited, but it's likely they'll release the side plates in this color eventually. The controller is pretty much guaranteed, the Edge version probably not but the regular version, like previous generations, I'm sure will be sold like any of the other colors.

Makes me think of the PS Classic disaster.

They should have released a usb update or something to fix their mess that the modders took care of.

Gotta admit that it looks very nice. Just like they released a similarly-themed PS4 10 years ago:

Now - If only it would play games from all 5 iterations of the console AND scalpers could be kept from buying them up.
I doubt either will be the case.

As for "Reliving" the others, I've got the first three variants of the console so I'm good there.

Damn Sony. Why? That thing looks sweet. Just make it part of the SKU. I understand doing limited run promo consoles with a game skin, but this is just another color. At least let it be around for a bit so everyone that really wants one has an opportunity to get one.

PS2 is my favourite. Looks just as futuristic 2000s design as something can look.

wow...just friggin wow....

30 years of milk products (& STILL no cookies included).. you'd think the cow would be dry by now, but obviously not, since the gamr bois/gurls just keep slurpin up these tois year after year after year......

Perhaps I've overlooked something, but the pics above look practically the same as the last few gens of PS's, except maybe for some stripes or angles here & there....

Why the hate? I'm a "hybrid" gamer, the launch of PS5 Pro was a joke, but otherwise I can't see a reason for that hate.

I was a pure console gamer for a decade since my kid days to my teen days before I got into PC gaming, I still didn't abandon console gaming. Though having a fast PC and a last-gen console is the best IMO since you can play the newest AAA games on PC, and some games with cheap prices with the older console.

The Switch is on it's last legs. What's Sony's excuse? We are four years in and the PS5 has been underwhelming. Most of the titles have been "cross gen". Sony is too busy re-making games that can already be played on PS5 via backward compatibility to release new titles. They could literally release a The Last of US 1 Trilogy at this point. They are working on a Horizon Zero Dawn remake. A game that I can play on PS5 right now at 60fps. WTF Sony.

Animal crossing new horizons
Mario odysee
bayonetta 3
f-zero 99
fire emblem three houses
fire emblem warriors
hyrule warriors
zelda TOTK
zelda BOTW
mario + rabbids kingdom 1+2

I could go on. I intentionally didnt include games like Mario kart 8, which was a wii u game, but has now recieved double the content on the switch to make it the largest mario kart game ever made. I also didnt include any of the remakes, like pokemon mystery dungeon, or advanced wars re-boot camp.

Nintendo has many problems. Churning out quality games is NOT one of them.

Meanwhile, how many games does PS5 have that are not on PC and dont require the VR2 headset? Like 6? There's 21 "exclusives", 5 are VR exclusive, one is DLC for project wingman that is VR exclusive, Neptunia is a PS3 game, death stranding 2 and marvels wolverine are not out yet, and Stellar blade is getting a PC release.

That leaves astro bot, astros playroom, FF VII rebirth, TLOUII remastered, Quantum Error (LMFAO what a masterpiece right there), r type final 3 evolved, rise of the ronin, silent hill the short message, and spider man 2.

9. 9 whole exclusives. Switch has over 100. The switch has more exclusives that start with B, F, M, S, and P individually then sony has in total. Wowzers.:roll::laugh:

I really wish I weren't being serious. Sony is sitting on a wealth of IPs that their fans want and they refuse to give them to them. They wasted all that money on Concord and I've been hearing Playstation fans ask for a new SOCOM for years. Playstation misses Shawn Layden something fierce. Jim Ryan wrecked things and jetted before facing the fall out.

Side note: FFVII: Rebirth is coming to PC too. I honestly, I'll probably be double dipping on Stellar Blade when it hits PC. That was the most fun I've had with my PS5 in near 2 years.

The moment I played Wipeout I had to have a PSX. So I packed up my 3DO and games and traded them in towards the Playstation, Wipeout, and Battle Arena Toshinden.

Destruction Derby was SO fun! That was non stop laughs for me
Later on when I saved up the money to buy the N64, I got it with Mario and Wave Race (specifically because of Jet Moto!)

Aww man, but that is like the golden age of fan boys arguing about consoles!! Sure, Sega/Nintendo is the OG battle of the nerds, but once we got a legit 3rd player in the fight with Sony, it went to a whole nutha level!!

Well, obviously we are from different gens, and have differing opinions of the whole gammin thing....BUT THAT'S OK, cause everyone is entitled to their own thoughts :)

I have very low opinions of the gammin industry as a whole, simply because it is a never-ending money pit, with seemingly never-ending rehashes of rehashes of other rehashes, both in hardware & software, plus membership fees, DLC, and other proprietary nonsense...and don't even get me started on the ownership (or lack thereof) issues, which granted, are not exclusive to games, but just sayin...

Please tell me the last time any of the gammin folks came out with something that was actually NEW or INNOVATIVE or Revolutionary on either the hdwr or s/w side of things.. been while huh ??
