Will AMD Rain on NVIDIA's 9800GTX+ Party?

TG Daily is reporting that AMD is preparing to stoke up its GPU war with NVIDIA by unleashing overclocked HD 4850 powered solutions, in order to parry against rival NVIDIA's 9800GTX+. Apparently, by removing overclocking restrictions, AIB's will be able to offer a range of overclocked SKU's, with higher core and memory clock speeds, together with up-rated cooling solutions not being a stretch of the imagination. It is claimed that senior ATI officials anticipate overclocked SKU's to offer an increase of 50 MHz to the core clock speed, compared to currently available HD 4850 parts. Company names on the proverbial grapevine and, set to offer these solutions are, unsurprisingly, HIS, together with Sapphire Technology and Diamond. The upcoming HD 4870 isn't expected to escape pre-overclocking treatment either.

I totally agree with ya on that panchoman. I've always liked AMD/ATI because of price:performance and value it has. If Nvidia can give something at reasonable enough prices, the war will get that much more interesting for all of us :toast:

that means the oc card will be above target price due improved cooling otherwise the stock cooler will run at higher speed from bios and is too noisy for a lot of buyer... or they change the cooler with a dual slot one... too much heat remain in the case

i'll like to see ati cards with nvidia coolers ;my respects to nvidia from this point of view

Nvidia: Lets overclock our cards a little to compete
AMD: Lets do that too, Lets do IT!, lol
Nvidia:F@CK!!

but really, if they can just overclock the cards 50mhz like that then it might be the 3850's bios limiting overclocks instead of the GPU's themselves.

I don't think we've ever seen a pp war of this nature. Just think it all started with NV ridiculous prices anyway. I will definitely be feeding off the spoils of the victor after this one is over :p

hmm I am seeing AMD becoming a exclusive GPU manufacturing company from CPU manufacturing.. Showing more interest in GPUs now a days. Probably they knew this is coming..

This is a bit interesting to me too. I am trying to line up hardware for my SFF comp and it seems like it is getting harder to find good SLI mobos..There are TONS of Crossfire ones though.

there will be no price war until amd can compete with nvidia on a single gpu setup not 2x4870 vs gtx280, if the 4870 had been able to compete with the gtx280 then we would have a price war on our hadns. the fact it takes 2 of them to come close to it, means nvidia can still charge their ridiculous prices as they have the fastest/most pwerful gpu

believe what you want dude, the 4850 came out and surprised alot of people, it was a panic attack Nvidia had so they dropped the price of their 9800GTX now they are trying to hold the crown by releasing a + card which is just a overclocked board, which is basically a midrange board now, 4870 hasnt landed yet and we have yet to see any performance numbers from it, so i wouldnt count them out, until we have proof.

how in the hell is the 9800gtx a midrange card ? maybe to you it might be but its still a high end card imo, a mid range card is a 8800gs/9600gso/hd 3850 and i f**king hate the prices we have to pay over here, were still being charged $360 for a damn 9800gtx, wtf is with that :banghead:
