Silent Hill: Homecoming banned in Australia

Konami has confirmed that its upcoming survival-horror game "Silent Hill: Homecoming" has been refused classification in Australia, so selling it there is illegal. According to a Atari spokesman (Atari is the local distributor for Konami) Australia's Classification Board found issue with the high impact of Silent Hill's violence.

Silent Hill: Homecoming is just one more victim in a series of banned games in Australia this year. Dark Sector, Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, and Fallout 3 were all banned in 2008, though both Dark Sector and Fallout 3 were eventually allowed back into the country after some modifications were made.

The game is currently being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. The PC version will be distributed exclusively through Valve's Steam digital content delivery service.

Wow, I feel bad for all our Australian members here. Does that mean it would be illegal for one of us to pick up a copy and send it to somebody in Australia?

Australia is taking this too far IMO. It should be up to the parents, and up to each individual (provided that they are of legal age) to decide whether or not this game is "too violent". Instead of having responsible parents that can't screen for improper/unsuitable games for the children, the government does it for you... talk about a nanny state.

I hope you Aussies can elect new leaders/pass new laws/repeal old laws that affect your ability to make a decision for yourself. And I sincerely hope no other nation falls to this level...

What do they mean they had to modify fallout 3 to get it back in Australia? Its no fun growing up if they have to placate games to make games acceptable for kids and australians both:(

Only in Australia. But the mods effect all retail versions thanks to the Aussie Government.... according to what triprift said. Unless he didn't mean it that way. :ohwell:

our classifications board for video games are full of pompus idiots, i was quite displeased when i heard that SoF3 and Fallout3 got banned, and yet now another one. I hope those cakeholes get ground up into Torgo's Executive Powder. :mad:

God bless Switzerland, at least concerning video games... and backdoor options to still get the game xD
