Microsoft Windows 7 RC to Go Public on May 5
The offficial release candidate (RC) version of the next-generation operating system from Microsoft - Windows 7 - will be publically released on May 5th, and should be available for MSDN and Technet subscribers now. This information comes directly from Microsoft, who by mistake updated one of the Windows 7 related web pages to display the following text: "Partners: if you have a subscription to MSDN or TechNet, you can download Windows 7 RC now. Otherwise, you can download Windows 7 starting May 5, 2009." As you can expect, the page is now fixed and the text was removed. The page has now been reverted back to inform about Windows 7 beta, and how to obtain trial keys for partners.

I thought there were higher build #'s than that? perhaps the torrent is mislabeled.
edit: checking around, the new build is meant to be 7200

see post 117 onwards. seems to be that the release was a woopsie, and that reports of it being out are fake (at present)

May 5th is the technet release date, the other stuff is incorrect/screwups.
Edit:
From posts on the technet thread above, it seems the technet subscriber release is the 5th of may, and the public gets it on the 15th.
Update The TechNet page now takes you to the beta site again. It looks like we're waiting till May, though testers should get a new build sometime next month.
what slow networking? at least build 7000 doesnt have teh slow networking bug when audio is playing, like vista does.
I was thinking of buying a netbook for like 280 strictly for seeing how windows 7 runs on it.
But there are usually a handful of RCs before an RTM (release to manufacture--'official release')
Either way, it looks like we'll have an RTM before summer is over.
