I haven't seen anything like it since the early 5700 XT days! o_O

It's apparently very common. Some kind of negative interaction between Windows update and AMD's updater it seems. Regardless, I think I went like 5 or 6 years since my last Nvidia driver issue. This is an easy fix, but still a waste of my time.

Windows's driver updater is crap anyways (for graphics cards, at least). I've had issues when I updated my driver manually, and Windows update reinstalled the old one. This was with an Nvidia GPU.

After the reviews of the 7900xt and 4080 came out, I decided there would be nothing on the horizon with a better price/FPS at 1440p HRR than the 6800XT so I bought close to the recent price minimums. Voted No as I will be good for a few years with this.

Windows's driver updater is crap anyways. I've had issues when I updated my driver manually, and Windows update reinstalled the old one. This was with an Nvidia GPU.

Maybe but it doesn't happen on Nvidia as far as I could tell. I literally used a 2060 for 30 months, and had a 1070 on a laptop for like 3 years before that, and a 960 on desktop before that, and don't recall any driver issues.

I think what happened, is that my version of Adrenaline was from May 2022. Windows update apparently put in a 10/2022 driver, and my Adrenaline stopped working.

Since this is common, what it (Adrenaline) should do is tell me the driver has been updated and ask if I want it to auto-update itself. I'm pretty sure I've seen something like that on the Nvidia side, but it would fix the problem for me. Instead I have to google the problem and then re-install the newest Adrenaline drivers myself.

Like I said it is not a big deal, but it's not as refined a product as Nvidia. OTOH I did pay $170 less than the nearest 3060 Ti competitor.

This is exactly the card I have, got for for $330 a couple three or so months back. I don't see any reason to have more than this, but then I've always bought cards right at the middle of the pack performance wise and held them for 2-3 years.

I will say, AMD drivers are not as good as Nvidia. Nothing major, but after years of zero problems with Nvidia today I suddenly got this. Guess I'll be turning off automatic updates once I fix it :

You can probably thank Windows for that

It hasn't happened to me. Although, I turned off auto update, and it stayed that way. Some driver settings always rolled back to default on Nvidia even if I didn't ask for a clean install. At least that doesn't happen with AMD.

Nah. I got a Dell 3080 as my main GPU. Works fine for my 1440p gaming. When 4K with rt features becomes more common and viable (cheaper and more mainstream) then I'll upgrade to that. Until then, I don't condone the prices these companies are pushing.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT Sees A 5% Price Drop In Europe Bringing It Below MSRP (wccftech.com)

Not enough. Price should drop to 500 euros for XT, not more than 650 euros for XTX.

650 euros for a card that competes with the $1200 4080?

i'm with him, 650 would be the fair price for that card. what nvidia asks for the 4080 has no relevance to that.
4080's are collecting dust on stores, probably the most absurd card we've seen in a long time

If you look at it from that way, I see your point. But for those prices to be real, RTX 3000 and RX 6000 stock has to go first.

That's not how it works. We need replacements first, and then EOL RX 6000 stock.

RX 6800 is 570 euros now.
RX 7900 XT is 1000 euros now.

Performance difference is 45%, while price difference is 75%.

RX 7900 XT is extremely bad value.

Did you forget what people have voted?

RTX 4080 must cost $700 at most.

My just bought rx 6800 xt is not so much better than my previous 5700 xt sure it has more memory but its hardly faster.
I am going to skip at least 4 releases before i buy another, and most important as long there are no releases of games which i want this will go further in the future
As nothing is released in the paste 4 a 5 years, what made me want to buy any new game at all
They all suxx or am boring, the rest is all remakes and old stuff rebranded with some silly name and put on the market as new.
Really nothing at all is new or is fun, really NOTHING
As if these game developers ARE OUT OF IDEAS, sure i saw some very new ideas, but not the game type i like to play
The rest i see is endless re-releases of the old same games like Skryim is being sold in 5 versions all the same game nothing different REALLY nothing is new.
This is just an example the list is endless of the rebranded same game releases without anything new in those games at all.
It is the same as the old one nothing new or better, a golden business for these b........ fill in yourself lots of swearing ;)
I have not see any game which sported me to buy it unless it is sold for less than 10$ and even then i start it and find it boring and kill it into the deep department of my hidden bought 500+ games which i never ever will touch ever again.
I am talking of thousands of dollars spend on these games, most of which i hated after a few hours trying or even less many i was bored, sick or pissed off after 5 minutes ......
I am not even talking about the endless stream of games being destroyed by remakes especially the ones i played ENDLESS hours like most of the microsh.t games the list is endless now.
They where old but man i loved them so much fun, till they in their infinite wisdom believed the endless stream of cheaters who never ever play the games fair and honest.
Almost all the best games are screwed up by the re-releases making them impossible to play honest.
Hell even with cheats i could no longer win, without using the ulitmate game destroying super cheats ..... what is the fun in that ...
So all these brainless developers destroyed super fun games into oblivion and i will never look back NOR EVER BUY A GAME they release.
That goes als for the recent take over by microsh.t of blizzard instant end of years of fun, the renewal was instant a super fail
Which will make me never to return EVER.
So long story short nothing makes me buy new games so this new 6800XT is fast en pleasant and unbelievable silent and cool
Sometimes so fast that i can not see where i moved my mouse, on my two 1440p monitors

couldn't agree more. Games that are worth new gpus are very few, and at the prices they ask for the new gpu's it's not worth upgrading.

I agree, but it's not gonna happen as long as RX 6000 and RTX 3000 cards are in stock for near original prices.

I agree that modern hardware hardly justifies its price. Almost everything is plenty fast unless you want 4K and/or high refresh rate. Nothing justifies upgrading every generation.

What I don't agree with is modern games being boring. Sure, if you look at Call of Duty 3456973 or Battlefield 3586735, or the latest Assassin's Creed which is the same as the last one, just the scenery changed, then yes, sure, they're just skins, not games. If you want a truly great, but modern gaming experience, you have to dig deeper into indie game territory. I finished Stray not long ago, and honestly, it was game of the year kind of good. If you like games that think outside the box, give it a try! ;)

The sad thing is that the GFX market in whole is downward spiralling and no one takes any productive, positives measures to improve the situation.

GPU shipments last quarter were the lowest they've been in over 10 years | PC Gamer
That article starts with: "The last time GPU shipments were this low we were in a massive recession." Well, we are in a massive recession, aren't we?

What I find sad about it is with wages stagnating or going down, food and fuel prices increasing, Nvidia and AMD are still focused on making overpriced high-end stuff like it was 2016.

On the bright side, we don't need their overpriced stuff. With modest expectations (1080p or 1440p 60 Hz), no one needs more than an RX 6600. This might be another reason why GPUs aren't selling.

Maybe people can't afford it, since even extremely slow RX 6600 is put at 270 euros. Prices had never been so bad before.

The article says the reasons:
- flooded market with used miners' GFX
- recession
- sanctions
- supply chain troubles

But I disagree - the market should move past the ancient and quite primitive 1080p 60 Hz screen-door effect and embrace something more modern like 2160p 144 Hz.

BTW, what UVD version has RX 7900 got? VCN 3.0 like the older RX 6000 series or?

hello's,
my current gpu's cost £250 when i got them, the 7900 xtx does 4x the fps ,so it is to me at the right price but i have found that its gained £300 if it comes with a better air cooler, which im going to remove and never use as i water cool my gpu's.
i also think it is to expensive for a computer that i use as a toy only and to me as i was a crossfire user find that they have broken Crossfire/sli and made my pair of cards no longer work which has forced me to have to think about buying new. if i still had support and games still used Crossfire/sli then i would not need a new card.
yes, they "£%£^&^" broke my hardware for me...and stopped using it when it got a 80% of total power mark.
if i remember right, better than a 2080 at half the price.
i cant buy a new card yet as i dont know what cards will be compatible with yet unreleased waterblocks.

In that instance you just buy the reference card for watercooling.

Maybe people can't afford it, since even extremely slow RX 6600 is put at 270 euros. Prices had never been so bad before.
I know. My point is that most people don't even need to afford it, as lower-mid range, or older higher-end cards can play everything as long as one keeps their expectations in check.

the market should move past the ancient and quite primitive 1080p 60 Hz screen-door effect and embrace something more modern like 2160p 144 Hz.
That's a contradiction to what you said before. If people don't have money for high-end graphics cards, then why should they spend on higher resolution monitors that require high-end graphics cards to play on?

Also, if I'm happy to play at 1080p 60 Hz, then why should I "move on"? Because you think it's primitive?

I meant that RX 6600 should cost 50% of what it is now. Slash it to $130 and see how the queues for it will be longer and longer.
You have to apply market stimulation, otherwise you are doing the opposite - stagflation and misery.

I agree again - I just don't think it's a loss for the user, as long as game technologies don't evolve too fast, either.

It's just like Intel's quad core i7 era: everybody was complaining that there was no innovation. I was happy because I didn't have to upgrade my PC for nearly 10 years (even though I did for different reasons).
