AGON by AOC Launches the Q24G2A BK Gaming Monitor

AGON by AOC - the world's leading gaming monitor and IT accessories brand - proudly introduces the compact Q24G2A/BK to its AOC GAMING product range. This gaming monitor comes equipped with a 23.8" (60.4 cm) IPS panel that provides a remarkable QHD resolution (2560x1440) at an impressive 165 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms MPRT response time. Offering a 1000:1 contrast ratio and 108.7% sRGB gamut coverage, the AOC GAMING Q24G2A/BK is designed to provide stunning visuals and responsive performance in a space-saving shape.

The Q24G2A/BK's compact 24" display size paired with the QHD resolution ensures extraordinary sharpness and detail with 123.4 ppi (pixel per inch) pixel density, which is much higher than that of standard 24" Full HD or 27" QHD displays. The high pixel density and space-saving design make it an ideal choice for gamers seeking an immersive gaming experience without sacrificing desk space.

LG Quietly Launches the UltraGear 27GR75Q-B QHD Gaming Monitor

LG has launched what appears to be something of a budget model in its UltraGear range of gaming monitors in the shape of the UltraGear 27GR75Q-B. What we're looking at is a 2560 x 1440 resolution display with a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, which not so long ago would've made this a premium product in the 1440p monitor segment. However, taking a closer look at the specifications, it's pretty clear that this is more of a budget model, as it only supports HDR10 and has a typical brightness of 300 nits and a minimum brightness of a mere 240 nits. You still get an IPS panel at least, although we're not sure how LG can claim it has a 1 ms grey to grey response time, as that's not something commonly found in IPS displays.

Other gaming features include FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support and LG's various gaming features, such as black stabilizer, dynamic action sync and an OSD feature that allows you to add a crosshair. Connectivity consists of two HDMI ports which top out at 144 Hz and one DP 1.4 port that tops out at 165 Hz, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack. The monitor is at least fairly power efficient with a maximum power draw of 48 W and a typical power consumption of 45 W. The stand supports tilt, height and pivot adjustment. We found the UltraGear 27GR75Q-B listed for sale in Hong Kong for around US$250, confirming that this is indeed a more budget friendly option from LG.

AOC Q24G2A QHD 24-Inch Gaming Monitor Coming to European Markets

The Q24G2A/BK is an apparent best selling model in the Chinese gaming monitor market, and AOC has decided to make its popular 23.8-inch 1440p gaming-focused screen available to European customers. It is slightly unusual for a small monitor to feature such a high pixel density (123 pixels per inch), thanks to the 2560×1440 QHD specification - but buoyant sales figures in China indicate that the region's gamers favor higher resolutions within a compact frame. AOC is now motivated enough to bring the IPS-based Q24G2A to a western audience - where tastes could be different - although there is no word about any upcoming availability in North American territories.

The western equivalent of China's popular Q24G2 model (launched in that region last year) has been updated and fitted with a pair of internal stereo speakers (rated at 2 W each), and the overall aesthetic is quite familiar - the Q24G2A/BK looks to share the same chassis (plus stand) with the cheaper/lower spec 24G2U/BK model. AOC is touting an MSRP of €249 for its European customers, and that pricing is a bit eyebrow raising - larger 27-inch IPS QHD gaming monitors sit comfortably in this price bracket. Pixel density enthusiasts could favor the smaller AOC since it beats out the twenty-seven inchers in terms of sharpness (123 vs 108 PPI). It is speculated that AOC has sourced the Q24G2A/BK's IPS-ADS panel from BOE Technology.

Shipments of Gaming Monitors Fell to 19.8 Million Units in 2022, Expected to Recover in 2023

TrendForce's latest research revealed that shipments of gaming monitors have seen their first decline since 2016 due to high inflation, resulting in only 19.8 million units being shipped in 2022 for a 13% YoY decline. TrendForce predicts that demand should recover in 2023 however, jumping back up to 20.8 million units—an increase of 5% YoY. This recovery will mostly be driven by three factors: First, a number of brands are replacing their 75 Hz models with 100 Hz models. Second, the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games is scheduled to take place in the third quarter, where Esports is set to be one of the competing categories. This will help drive up demand for gaming products. Lastly, China has finally begun lifting COVID restrictions, which means demand for Internet cafes should gradually recover.

TrendForce reveals that vertical alignment (VA) LCD monitors took the lion's share of the market in 2022 at 51%. This was followed by in-plane switching (IPS) LCD monitors at 43.4%, and finally twisted nematic (TN) LCD monitors accounted for 5%. However, it's worth noting that OLED gaming monitors have grown in popularity, taking 0.6% of the market share in 2022. Thanks to the diversification of OLED products, that market share is expected to grow to 1.6% in 2023. Furthermore, TrendForce predicts that IPS monitors may begin competing with VA monitors given that not only are IPS products increasing their market share but many IPS gaming monitors are seeing a continuous price reduction.

XMG Introduces PRO and FOCUS Laptops with i9-13900HX and RTX 4070

With the new PRO and the FOCUS (E23), XMG introduces two laptop series on a similar hardware basis: Both feature Intel's Core i9-13900HX and NVIDIA graphics cards up to the GeForce RTX 4070. While the PRO 15 and PRO 17 are slightly thinner as gaming workstations and boast more extensive connectivity, the FOCUS scores at a more affordable price and is not only available in 15.6 and 17.3-inch versions, but also in a 16-inch format. For the laptops originally designed as an entry-level series, the hardware upgrades mean a significant upgrade: the FOCUS series moves closer to the PRO laptops.

The key components found in the new XMG PRO 15 and PRO 17 as well as the XMG FOCUS 15, FOCUS 16 and FOCUS 17 are almost identical. All laptops employ Intel's Core i9-13900HX with 24 cores (8 P-cores, 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. The freely configurable graphics card options each include NVIDIA's new, DLSS-3-capable GeForce RTX 4050 (FOCUS only) as well as 4060 and 4070 (FOCUS and PRO) with a maximum graphics power rating of up to 140 watts (115 watts TGP plus 25 watts Dynamic Boost 2.0). However, since the clock behaviour and the actual power consumption of the GPUs in the new generation are subject to much more restrictive, application-specific specifications from NVIDIA, the maximum values are only achieved in synthetic stress tests such as Furmark - according to the official requirements of the graphics chip manufacturer.

The 27B8U is a stunning, no-nonsense, 27-inch planar monitor with 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution, standard 60 Hz refresh rate, and 0.03 ms response time from its OLED panel. The 34E7R has a more conservative 21:9 aspect ratio on its 34-inch, 1500R curved panel, but a much faster VA panel with mini-LED illumination that offers 2,304 LDZs, and 165 Hz refresh-rate. The 34E9R is the most advanced curved gaming monitor from the lot, with a 34-inch 1800R-curved OLED panel, 3440 x 1440 pixels resolution, 175 Hz refresh-rate, and 0.03 ms response time.

ASUS ROG Gaming Notebooks at CES: "Zen 4" and "Raptor Lake" Choices

At the 2023 International CES, ASUS ROG announced several of its upcoming gaming notebooks across several form-factors. ASUS was one of the very few gaming PC brands to show off upcoming products based on an AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors besides those based on 13th Gen Intel Core processors. The star-attraction is the ROG Flow Z13 (GZ301-2023), an ultraportable gaming tablet that folds into a notebook—a very rare device. It packs a 13-inch 16:10 ROG Nebula display with 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution, 165 Hz, 3 ms response time, and NVIDIA G-SYNC. Under the hood, the ROG Flow Z13 rocks an Intel Core i9-13900H 6P+8E processor, GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU with Advanced Optimus. The device puts out a 170° kick stand, and a detachable full-size keyboard.

The 2023 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is the company's fastest gaming notebook to be powered by an AMD processor. The 14-inch conventional form-factor notebook packs a 2560 x 1600 pixels mini-LED display with 165 Hz refresh-rate, 3 ms response time, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, and G-SYNC. The main muscle is an AMD Ryzen 7000 series processor (very likely from the "Phoenix Point" Ryzen 7045 series), and a GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. While not an AMD Advantage laptop, ASUS has given this its own in-house ROG Intelligent Cooling system that incorporates vapor-chamber base plates and liquid-metal TIM.

HyperX Armada Gaming Monitor Pictured

HyperX, the former gaming peripherals brand of Kingston, was acquired by PC OEM giant HP in 2021. It was only natural for HP to use the HyperX brand to ship gaming monitors at some point, as the company has a vast lineup of not just PC and professional displays, but also some gaming displays under its HP OMEN brand. The company announced the HyperX Armada brand of gaming monitors in the 25-inch and 27-inch planar category in September 2022. We spotted it at the 2023 CES. It has prominent HyperX badging, some peel-off stickers on the front bezel detailing its key gamer-friendly features; and an NVIDIA G-SYNC logo. Key specs include WQHD (1440p) resolution, 165 Hz refresh-rate, DisplayHDR 400, and a fast IPS panel with 1 ms response time. HP will probably retain the OMEN brand for ultra-premium gaming monitors, with the HyperX Armada series in the mid-range.

It's unknown if any of these displays will appear in consumer products outside of the Chinese market, although BOE laptop panels have been used in products sold globally.
