AMD Shares Details on Ryzen DDR4 Memory Support and Upcoming AM4 Updates

In a blog post titled "Tips for Building a Better AMD Ryzen System", AMD has shed some light on the current memory support quirks with their Ryzen CPUs. First interesting detail: Ryzen processors do not offer memory dividers for DDR4-3000 or DDR4-3400. As such, AMD recommends that users looking to use higher memory speeds with their Ryzen processors instead look towards 3200 or 3500 MT/s. Due to Ryzen's preferences when it comes to memory, AMD also recommends that users pay particular attention to motherboard vendor's memory QVL lists for speeds greater than DDR4-2667.

Remember RAM importance on Ryzen processors' performance, which is given newfound importance in alleviating possible bottlenecks related to AMD's Data Fabric, the interconnect technology being used to communicate between different CCX's in AMD's 8-core Ryzen 7 and upcoming 6-core Ryzen 5 processors. Higher data rate of your memory subsystem should better help Ryzen's inter-core communication, and thus allow for higher performance in multiple scenarios, more so than with any other current CPU architecture.

CORSAIR is Ready for AMD Ryzen

CORSAIR, a world leader in enthusiast memory, high-performance gaming hardware and PC components, today announced its extensive compatibility for the groundbreaking new range of AMD Ryzen processors and the AM4 platform. With a completely new CPU architecture, chipset and CPU socket, AMD Ryzen demands the latest in performance PC hardware. With a wide range of compatible DDR4 memory, liquid CPU coolers and PSUs, CORSAIR has everything enthusiasts need to make AMD Ryzen CPUs run to the full extent of their abilities.

"CORSAIR is uniquely positioned for the launch of AMD Ryzen, with an outstanding range of not just high-performance DDR4 memory, but liquid CPU cooling and power supplies as well," said Travis Kirsch Director, Product Management, Client at AMD. "CORSAIR offers everything system builders need to get the absolute best performance from AMD Ryzen and the new AM4 platform."

CORSAIR Announces the ONE PC

CORSAIR, one of the most renowned manufacturers of PC hardware, has recently announced the first in what is expected to be a new line of products: a fully-assembled, ready-to-run PC.

CORSAIR developed a new case for their ONE system, taking in cues from their previously-launched Carbide 330R and Obsidian 550D cases, though there is some increased attention to detail and blue accents in this ONE case. The top and bottom have a finned structure reminiscent of a large heatsink, while the side panels are perforated with triangular ventilation holes. Apparently, no windowed side-panel was used, which is slightly at odds with the industry-approved "gamer" aesthetic, which CORSAIR seems to have nevertheless strived to achieve. The tower seems unable to accommodate full-sized ATX boards, though that isn't necessarily a requirement for a high-end system. The Corsair ONE features an HDMI port on the front in addition to the usual USB, which is probably there to service VR headsets.

Pricing and availability for the Corsair ONE have not been announced, which isn't that strange, considering no specifications were announced either. Expect to hear more from this one in the coming months.

Corsair Vengeance RGB Series Memory Pictured

Here are some of the first pictures of Corsair Vengeance RGB series DDR4 memory. Built on the same product design as the Vengeance RGB series the company launched at Computex 2016 (June), these DIMMs feature RGB LED lighting elements, with software control directly through the DIMM interface, without needing any additional wires or physical button pushes. Each DIMM can display a single color from the 16.7 million-color RGB palette at a given time. These DIMMs could come in densities of 8 GB and 16 GB, and in various DDR4 speeds, and in single-module, dual-channel, and quad-channel kits.

Based on the existing 2016 TX-series, these units feature fixed 24-pin ATX and 4+4 pin EPS connectors, and modular PCIe, SATA, and Molex/Berg connectors, with flat cabling for these connectors and the EPS connector. Compared to older generations of TX-series PSUs, these units boast of 80 Plus Gold efficiency, all-Japanese capacitor innards, rifle-bearing fans, and 7-year warranties. The series includes 550W (TX550M), 650W (TX650M), 750W (TX750M), and 850W (TX850M) variants.

Corsair Reveals K95 RGB Platinum Keyboard

Even though Corsair has already launched a K95 RGB Keyboard, the company apparently wasn't convinced that that was the best of what they could achieve; as such, Corsair has announced what they deem to be "the true successor to the K70: the K95 RGB Platinum.

This version features 8 MB of on-board memory to let owners save up to three profiles for lighting and macros, so that they are carried with your keyboard and you don't have to fiddle with the settings yet again if you change computers. There are now only 6 macro keys located on the left side of the keyboard, a step-down from the 18 offered in the previous K95 - but evey main key is now re-assignable, which means that you can do the same amount of work, without having those extra 12 keys taking up space and increasing the keyboard length . In terms of the ever-present lighting features, the K95 RGB Platinum features a lighting zone called LightEdge, which is located along the top edge of the keyboard. It's essentially a long strip of light created by 16 RGB LEDs, and you can program its lighting patterns and colors separately from the rest of the keyboard.

New Cherry MX Black Silent Switches Announced; No Longer Exclusive to Corsair

Cherry GmbH, the German-American computer peripheral-device maker best known for its mechanical keyboard switches, has announced a new addition to their Silent line of switches. The new Silent Black switches join the company's Silent line-up of Silent Red, Silent RGB Red, and Silent RGB Black. Cherry MX Silent switches are not particularly new, but until now, they were limited to linear Red switches, and were used exclusively on Corsair products (such as the STRAFE RGB Keyboard). Now, though, Corsair's exclusivity has come to an end, leaving other companies free to implement the Silent switches onto their own keyboards.

The "silent" operation is achieved via a rubber pad which dampens the sound of both the switch bottoming out and the rebound noise. Otherwise, the switches' specifications are identical to those of their non-silent counterparts. It's also worth noting that both Red and Black switches are linear, meaning there's no extra click within the key travel. The Silent Black switches are specified for 60 cN +/- 20 cN actuation force (against the 40 cN of their Silent Red counterparts), 2mm +/-0.6 pretravel, 4mm /-0.4 actuator travel, <5 ms bounce time, and are rated at 50 million key presses.
