MSI X570 Motherboards Start Upward of 200€

Last week, we brought you an exclusive report of an ASUS AMD X570 motherboard price-list leak that foretells a $50-150 average price increase over launch-prices of motherboards based on the previous-generation AMD X470 chipset. European PC component price aggregator Geizhals has a partial list of X570 motherboards by another major manufacturer, MSI. It must be noted here, that while the ASUS price-list was for day-one retail prices, these prices of MSI boards are early listings, and could be marked-up by the retailer.

The cheapest model on the list is the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus, which succeeds the roughly-120€ X470 Gaming Plus at a whopping 201.30€. Interestingly, the MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi, which is supposed to be a slightly toned-down variant of the Gaming Pro Carbon, is priced only 18€ more, at 219.50€. The MEG X570 ACE, which will be a fast-moving high-end product, is priced at 414.60€, or roughly on par with HEDT motherboards based on the Intel X299 or even AMD X399 chipsets. For 100€ more, you get the better equipped MEG X570 Creation. Record-seeking enthusiasts will have their sights on the MEG X570 GODLIKE, though, which can be yours for 780.40€.

Four Premium MSI X570 Motherboards Pictured Up Close

With motherboard vendors going big on the AMD "Valhalla" platform (a combination of 3rd generation Ryzen processor and AMD X570 chipset), we got to see MSI pull out every single high-end motherboard label it has, including MEG GODLIKE and MEG Creation. We sneaked into the MSI booth to take some snaps of the other X570 boards, including a close-up of the MEG X570 Ace, and three other MPG series boards. The MEG X570 Ace is largely carved out of the MEG X570 GODLIKE with a little toning down of the style and features. This is still a formidable board built for serious manual overclocking. We also get the sense that MSI is replacing its "Gaming M7" moniker with MEG Ace in its product stack, as we couldn't find an "X570 Gaming M7" anywhere.

With the MEG GODLIKE and MEG Creation expected to be priced north of $300, the MEG X570 Ace could be priced around the $260-mark. Positioned below it around $200-220, is the MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon. This board offers everything you need to build a super high-end rig where the focus is on gaming. It has decent CPU overclocking chops, too. The onboard audio and networking features are premium, and we expect MSI to deploy 802.11ax Wi-Fi. The new MPG X570 Gaming Edge is a lighter variant of the Gaming Pro Carbon, and is largely based on the same PCB. If you don't care all that much about board design, the MPG Gaming Edge is the way to go, with its roughly-$180 price. The MPG X570 Gaming Plus is a cost-effective product, and has all of the essentials gamers need for this platform. It is expected to go for around $150.

AMD Showcases Several Premium X570 Motherboards for Ryzen 3000 Zen2

AMD at its 2019 Computex private showcase for the media following its CEO's keynote address, unveiled several premium motherboards based on the new AMD X570 chipset. The X570 is an in-house design effort by AMD, and unlike the X470, isn't sourced from ASMedia. The chipset supports PCI-Express gen 4.0 end-to-end, which means not only is the chipset-bus gen 4.0, but also the downstream PCIe lanes it puts out. The chipset connects to the AM4 socket over a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 link (64 Gbps).

It has a downstream PCIe lane budget of 16 lanes, which the motherboard designers can spread out as up up to two M.2 NVMe slots, an x4 (physical x16) slot, a bunch of x1 slots, and newer generation connectivity such as 802.11ax WLAN, 2.5/5.0/10 GbE wired networking, and a larger number of USB 3.2 ports, including newer 20 Gbps portsn over external controllers. This chipset runs hotter than the X470, with a TDP rumored to be around 15W, probably because of the PCIe gen 4.0 implementation. Many of the motherboards we spotted had active fan-heatsinks over the chipset.

MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon AC and Z370 GODLIKE Gaming Launched

MSI launched two of its first socket LGA1151 motherboards based on Intel Z370 chipset, for 8th generation Core "Coffee Lake" desktop processors, the Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, and the Z370 GODLIKE Gaming ACK. The company may launch its other motherboards based on this chipset, closer to Intel's October 5th launch date for the platform. The Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon AC is an upper-performance segment product, which could be priced close to the $200-mark, while the Z370 GODLIKE Gaming could command a >$300 price.

Built in the ATX form-factor, the Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon AC covers all the features you'll possibly need for a fairly high-end gaming PC build. It draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors, conditioning it for the CPU using a 10-phase VRM. The CPU is wired to four DDR4 DIMM slots, supporting up to 64 GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory; and two reinforced PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (electrical x8/x8 with both populated). The third x16 slot is electrical gen 3.0 x4, and wired to the Z370 PCH. Three x1 slots make for the rest of the expansion. Storage connectivity includes two 32 Gb/s M.2 slots, and six SATA 6 Gb/s ports. One M.2 Shield heatspreader accessory is included.

MSI Z370 GODLIKE Gaming Motherboard Pictured

Here's the first picture of MSI's flagship socket LGA1151(v2) motherboard for 8th generation Core "Coffee Lake" processors, the Z370 GODLIKE Gaming. The board features the latest design theme by MSI for its top-tier Enthusiast Gaming series. It will be the company's most feature-rich motherboard for the platform. Drawing power from a 6-pin PCIe power connector, besides 8-pin EPS and 24-pin ATX; the board conditions it using an 18-phase VRM. The CPU is wired to reinforced DRAM and PCI-Express slots.

The Z370 GODLIKE Gaming from MSI appears to feature a plethora of onboard overclocking controls, and top-grade connectivity, which could include Killer DoubleShot Pro networking, a staggering five M.2 slots (two of which come from a riser), the company's highest-grade next-generation onboard audio solution, a large number of USB 3.1 gen 2 ports, metallic I/O shroud elements, besides the chipset and VRM heatsinks. The board lights up like a Christmas tree with RGB LEDs all over, and features several RGB LED headers. The Z370 GODLIKE Gaming could be among the first wave of socket LGA1151(v2) motherboards by the company, which could launch a littler later in Q3-2017.

Lists of Motherboards Based on Intel Z370 Express Chipset Surface

Intel is rushing in its 8th generation Core mainstream-desktop (MSDT) processor lineup, codenamed "Coffee Lake," later within Q3-2017. The first four of these will be six-core SKUs, which while built in the "LGA1151" package, the same ones as the 7th generation "Kaby Lake" and 6th generation "Skylake," will not be compatible with motherboards based on the older 100-series and 200-series chipsets, for reasons unknown. Upcoming motherboards based on the 300-series chipset, could support not just 8th generation "Coffee Lake" processors, but also older LGA1151 processors. The chipset lineup consists of the Z370 Express, which features support for CPU overclocking and 2-way multi-GPU; and the mid-range B360 Express chipset, which could launch either in late-2017 or early-2018, alongside the first Core i3 "Coffee Lake" chips. The first wave of motherboards to go with "Coffee Lake" processors will hence be Z370-based. VideoCardz compiled a partial, but growing list of motherboards which could make up the first wave.

MSI Continues Teasing High-End, X299 Motherboard - It's GODLIKE

The folks at MSI seem to be particularly fond of puzzles at this point in time, for no discernible reason. I say so because they've been giving us snippets of an upcoming high-end motherboard, which we have previously covered. At the time, we posited it would fall somewhere along the X299-end of the spectrum, considering the huge amount of PCIe x16 ports on-board.

It would seem those suspicions were founded, since MSI's other GODLIKE branded motherboards (which means they have all the bells & whistles available on time of their release) were X99-based, so it would follow that the new GODLIKE would usher in their footsteps as well. From the new piece of the puzzle, we can glean that this motherboard will offer, in addition to its 4x PCIe x16 ports and 3x M.2 slots over the X299's 44 PCIe lanes, 3x Ethernet connectors, 6x USB 3.1, and 2x Wi-Fi antennas. Expect this motherboard to be one of the most feature-packed offerings for Intel's expected ninth coming (of their Core i9-branded HEDT processors, that is.)
