AMD Ryzen 9 7950X Passively Cooled with Copper Blocks

A Reddit user has shared their experience of passively cooling an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, with some modifications to the setup. Using the Streacom DB4 passively cooled case, the user u/AromaticImpress7778 pulled off cooling a processor with 16 cores and 32 threads with a TDP of 170 Watts. Interestingly, the Streacom DB4 case rates CPU support for only 65 Watts, meaning some modifications were in place. To support the high-TDP CPU, the user used two of the one-kilogram copper bars and attached them to the case. Heat is transferred to the two one-kilogram blocks using the case's default plate and an additional 233-gram copper plate for the CPU and motherboard. These big copper blocks are not soldered to the case, but instead, the user puts Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal between copper parts and Arctic MX-6 between the case and copper.

To cool the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and MSI B650I board, accompanied by HDPlex GaN 250 W and 64 GB of memory, the system did well enough for a passive build. After running the system at full load, the CPU reached 95 degrees Celsius for CCD1 and 95 degrees Celsius for CCD2. The external panels of the Streacom DB4 case were getting 50C to 60C of heat. Additionally, the user noted that the usage of this system will be more relaxed, as it will not run under full load for a prolonged period. Regarding the system's total weight, the entire build weighs around 13 KG, with 4.4 KG of that being only copper. The case weighs 7.5 KG, and the other parts weigh about one kilogram.

Huntkey Launches New Fast Chargers and Surge Protectors

In May, Huntkey launched three new products in the United States. Two of them are 100 W GaN chargers, and the main target group is people who travel frequently. The other is a surge protector, which is mainly used in kitchens, televisions, offices and other occasions that require multiple outlets for power supply. When people travel for business or vacation, they need to bring a lot of chargers, which take up space and make luggage heavier. Huntkey 100 W GaN charger solves this problem, with a smaller size, lighter weight, and faster charging speed, meeting the needs of charging multiple devices at the same time.

"It's only about half the size of a dollar bill, but I've been able to get 65 watts to charge my laptop from it". This is feedback from an Amazon customer. This 100 GaN fast charger boosts charging efficiency to over 90% with its Power Delivery 3.0 standard, fully charging a 16-inch MacBook Pro in 1.9 hours and charging an iPhone 13 to 50% in 0.5 hours. GaN technology improves charging efficiency while reducing the size of the charger to 40% smaller than Apple's original 96w charger, making it ideal for travel.

340 Watt GaN Charger for Gaming Laptops Displayed at Computex

Somewhat unexpectedly, there were a handful of exhibitors from the PRC at Computex and walking around the mostly empty show, we spotted a company called Wii Power (no relation to Nintendo) that had a range of rather interesting Gallium Nitride or GaN chargers on display. The headline product wasn't even the most interesting model on display, but at 340 W, it's by far the most powerful GaN based charger we've seen to date. Although it wasn't a final product based on the looks of the housing, it gives us some insight into what to expect from future laptop chargers. It's still a rather large power brick at 150 x 86 x 34 mm, but it can deliver 20 V at up to 17 A over the fixed power cable. In addition to that, it also has a USB-C port with support for USB PD and a range of other charging standards that can deliver up to 45 W.

The company showed off another charger that has a combined output of 240 W and the primary USB-C port supports revision 3.1 of the USB PD standard and can deliver 140 W on its own. The secondary USB-C port can deliver another 100 W, but what makes this product interesting outside of this, is that Wii Power offers an adapter that can combine both of these outputs into a single 240 W output for charging more demanding laptops. There's even a third USB-C port and a USB-A for peripheral or phone charging, although each port is limited to 30 W and the total output can never exceed 240 W. A built-in display shows the Voltage, Amperage and Wattage that's being put out. It's still rather chunky at 130 x 80 x 32 mm, but considering the power it can put out, it's more compact than most similar non GaN chargers. Finally the company had a compact USB PD 3.1 travel charger that can again deliver up to 140 W, which is the equivalent of 28 V at 5 A. We're not expecting to see any of these products in their current guise in retail, but it's a clear sign of what to expect in terms of future charging products.

HDPlex Intros World's Smallest ATX PSU

HDPlex announced what it claims to be the world's smallest ATX power supply. Measuring 170 mm x 50 mm x 25 mm, this internal PSU is smaller than most 100 W-class laptop power-bricks, but packs a surprising 250 W of power output that's sufficient for most HTPC builds. The PSU uses highly efficient GaN FETs in its switching circuitry, to achieve its power density, with the company claiming 94% efficiency.

The PSU comes with a discrete AC receptacle on one end, and connectors for modular cabling, on the other. Cables include 24-pin ATX, 8-pin EPS, three SATA power, one Molex, and two 6+2 pin PCIe power connectors. 250 W not enough? There's a unique feature that lets you sync two of these into a single unit, by combining their AC inputs through a Y-splitter, and an ATX signal cable.
