SAPPHIRE Slips in Low Cost Single Link Adapter for Eyefinity

Recognising the demand for a lower cost solution to using the DisplayPort output for a third monitor in ATI Eyefinity mode on its HD 5000 series cards, SAPPHIRE Technology has just introduced a DisplayPort to Single Link DVI adapter.

Eyefinity mode requires the third monitor to be either a DisplayPort (DP) monitor or a monitor connected with an active adapter to synchronise the signals for a DVI or HDMI monitor. Earlier active DP to Dual Link DVI adapters were considered to be too expensive by many users who did not need ultra high resolution.

Samsung Intros 27-inch Full-HD Monitor with 1 ms Response Time

Samsung Japan recently added to its lineup, a 27-inch full-HD monitor with a blazing-fast response time of 1 ms. The new Samsung P2770FH makes use of a TN film panel with a matte screen. It features a piano black frame. Apart from the 1920 x 1080 pixels native resolution and 1 ms response time, the panel features a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 (70,000:1 DCR), and maximum brightness of 300 cd/m². Display inputs include DVI, HDMI, and D-Sub. Samsung did not give out a price yet, but one can expect it to be on the higher side.

Samsung Expands Monitor Line-up with 90 and 30 Series Monitors with HDTV Tuners

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, the number one worldwide brand of LCD display products, today announced two new lines of multi-function monitors (MFMs) offering consumers a computer monitor and HDTV in one. Ranging from 21.5 to 24 inches, the 30 and 90 display series allow viewers to switch easily from work to play with enhanced picture quality all in one space-saving device.

I-O Data Intros Pocket HDD that Copies Video from Cameras, Plays it Back on HDTVs

I-O Data Japan released the new HDPN-U500/V. This 500 GB pocket hard drive is unique in having the means to copy data (video and pictures) directly off several kinds of compatible digital video camcorders such as Sanyo Xacti, JVC Everio, or Sony Handycam camcorder, etc., using its USB 2.0 port, and being able to play it back on your TV using its HDMI port. Built in a sleek, piano-black casing, the hard drive measures 95.4 (W) x 122.5 (D) x 20.0 (H) mm, weighing around 190 g. This innovative new hard drive will ship next month at 15,330 JPY (around $180).

Gigabyte Intros HD 5770 Silent Cell Graphics Card

Gigabyte is readying a new passively-cooled Radeon HD 5770 graphics card called the Gigabyte HD 5770 Silent Cell, carrying model number GV-R577SL-1GD. This 100% non-reference design card is built using Gigabyte's Ultra Durable VGA technology (comprising of 2 oz copper PCB, ferrite-core chokes, Low RDS (on) MOSFETs, and binned high-performance memory chips. What's more peculiar is its large GPU cooler that covers the length and height of the card, and extends a couple of inches over the length of the card. At its end, the heatsink also extends a good couple of inches over the height of the card, some of its fins even protrude out of the rear panel. The heatsink is a densely-packed aluminum fin array to which heat is conveyed by four 6 mm thick heat pipes.

Cooling assembly aside, the card sticks to AMD reference clock speeds - 850 MHz core, 1200 MHz (4800 MHz effective) memory, and uses 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface. The 40 nm Juniper GPU packs 800 stream processors, and supports the latest PC graphics technologies including DirectX 11. The card can pair with up to three more of its kind for CrossFireX. Display connectivity options include one each of DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort. Gigabyte did not give out a price.

Zotac Adds USB 3.0 to its ITX LGA1156 Feature-Rich Motherboard

Over half an year after its introduction, Zotac's feature-rich H55-ITX WiFi motherboard got a minor (or major, depending on your application) specification update, with the company dropping in USB 3.0 support. Making use of the common NEC controller, the board features two USB 3.0 ports on its rear-panel. The new model is thus named H55U3 WiFi. Sticking strictly to the mini-ITX specs, the H55U3 is a socket LGA1156 motherboard supporting processors with TDP of up to 95W, which translates to all dual-core Core i3, i5 processors with room for light overclocking, and quad-core Core i5, i7 with no overclocking.

Being based on the Intel H55 chipset, it supports Intel FDI, connecting processors with Intel HD graphics to display connectors that include DVI and HDMI. The socket is wired to two DDR3 DIMM slots for dual-channel memory, and one PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot. Connectivity includes six SATA 3 Gb/s from the H55 PCH, 8-channel HD audio with optical SPDIF, WiFi b/g/n, gigabit Ethernet, eSATA, USB 2.0, and USB 3.0. The board uses ATX 24+4 pin power input. Zotac's H55U3 WiFi has started selling in China for US $118.

MSI Intros Low-Profile Radeon HD 5670 Graphics Card

MSI unveiled a new low-profile graphics card based on the ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics processor. The MSI R5670-PD512 uses a half-height PCB and [apparently] single-slot design. It uses a dual 40 mm fan-based air cooler that bears some resemblance to the Twin Frozr II cooler, only a lot more compact. The card has 512 MB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface. The Radeon HD 5670 is DirectX 11 compliant, and packs 400 stream processors. Display outputs include DVI-D, HDMI with 7.1 channel audio, and detachable D-Sub. The card utilizes "Military-grade" components, such as solid-state chokes, and all solid-capacitors. The card should be available soon.

Iiyama Intros LED-Backlit ProLite 21.5-inch Display

Japanese display maker Iiyama released its ProLite E2271HDS-B 21.5-inch monitor. This model has a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and uses LED-backlit illumination, which further cuts down its thickness to 18.5 mm at its thinnest point. The panel has a response time of 5 ms, contrast ratio of 1,000:1 with 50,000:1 ACR; and brightness of 250 cd/m². It takes display input from DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. The LED-backlit consumes lesser power than CCFL illumination used in traditional LCD screens, making the ProLite consume 21W for operation. The ProLite E2271HDS-B will cost 22,800¥ (about US $258) in Japan, when it releases to market in July.

ASUS Packs a Load Onto Mini-ITX for AMD Users

ASUS is ready with a feature-packed socket AM3 motherboard in the mini-ITX form-factor, based on the AMD 880G + SB710 chipset. The ASUS M4A88T-I Deluxe, as it is called, supports AM3 processors, probably with a TDP limited at 95W or 125W, and supports up to 8 GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory using SODIMMs (laptop memory). It far from stops here. The 880G chipset packs a DirectX 10.1 compliant ATI Radeon HD 4290 graphics, complete with SidePort memory and HD video acceleration features. The SB710 gives out five SATA 3 Gb/s ports on this board, of which three are internal, and two eSATA. The lone expansion slot is a PCI-Express 2.0 x16.

Connectivity includes 6-channel HD audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF output, WiFi b/g/n, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and display connectivity which includes DVI and HDMI (with 7.1 channel HDMI audio). The SB710 comes with the unintended functionality of unlocking disabled cores on some processors.

Mitsubishi Electric Releases New Diamondcrysta WIDE 23-inch Monitor

Mitsubishi Electric released the Diamondcrysta WIDE RDT232WX. This 23-inch LCD display comes in two variants, that with glossy screen, and that with a matte (anti-glare) screen. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with 3.8 ms of response time (GTG), 1000:1 contrast ratio (5000:1 dynamic), 300 cd/m², and 3W stereo speakers. Inputs include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. The variant with the glossy screen will be priced at US $464 and that with the matte screen at $484, when the two release later this month in Japan.

ViewSonic Unleashes World's First 27'' Full-HD Monitor with 1ms Response Time

Both monitors have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (full-HD), while the E2208HDD-1 has a response time of 5 ms, with dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 (1,000:1 static), brightness of 300 cd/m2, and connectivity which includes DVI and D-Sub, the ProLite B2209HDS-1 is snappier with 2 ms response time, 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, D-Sub, DVI and HDMI for input, and built-in 2W stereo speakers. The B2209HDS-1 goes for around 198 EUR.

AMD Expands DirectX 11 Gaming by 12x HD Resolution with ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity6

AMD 880G Chipset Detailed

Following AMD's launch of the 890GX chipset which marked the entry of certain new features native to the chipset, the company is readying a slightly scaled-down version of it aimed at more mainstream consumers, business PC users, as well as HTPC and home PC users. The AMD 880G succeeds the 780G is being a mid-range integrated graphics chipset that supports a range of new features using the SB800 series southbridge chips.
