Thermaltake Announces The Tower 200 Mini Chassis

Thermaltake, the leading PC DIY premium brand for Case, Power, Cooling, Gaming peripherals, and enthusiast Memory solutions, is proud to release The Tower 200 Mini Chassis, an exclusive Mini-ITX case that can accommodate a 4090 graphics card and a 280 mm AIO radiator. As a compact chassis, The Tower 200 not only has the advantage of saving space but also without sacrificing high-end hardware support. To maintain its panoramic view and thermal performance, The Tower 200 keeps its front TG panel, and changed both left and right sides to perforated panels, whilst featuring two 140 mm CT140 fans for better cooling performance. The Tower 200 is a mighty Mini-ITX case that meets your needs in appearance and performance.

The Tower 200 retains the iconic vertical body design of its predecessors, providing flexibility and decreasing obstructions to your gaming and workspace with a smaller footprint. The well-designed airflow of The Tower 200 eliminates common concerns about cooling performance of a Mini-ITX chassis. The cold air intakes from the left, right and bottom side as well as the hot air exhausts at the top side and rear sides keep the internal temperature low at all times. In addition to one pre-installed CT140 140 mm PC Cooling Fan on the top and other one on the back, The Tower 200 allows users to build an exceptional cooling system by installing different components. On the right side, The Tower 200 can support up to either two 120/140 mm fans or a 280 mm AIO radiator. Besides, the removable fan bracket makes the installation process easier, and the removable fan filters ensure excellent dust protection.

Sharp Working on LCD Screen for Next Generation Gaming Console

Sharp Corporation's Chief Executive Officer, Robert Wu, has revealed that the Japanese company's display division is involved in the research and development of an LCD screen intended for use in an "upcoming" gaming console. This small detail was announced during an earnings briefing/call with analysts (on May 11), and Wu was careful to not name the key client: "I can't comment on any details regarding specific customers. But as to a new gaming console, we've been involved in its R&D stage." Bloomberg reports that information about a gaming device was removed from presentation material, soon after the conclusion of the conference call. Sharp expects to launch pilot LCD-panel production lines by the end of this fiscal year.

Given the secrecy surrounding this business partnership and projected time frame for the new line of gaming oriented LCD screens, games industry analysts point to Nintendo being the "unnamed" client. Sharp is the current supplier of 6.2-inch LCD panels that are featured on the standard Nintendo Switch (2017) handheld console. Samsung provides a 7-inch screen that is fitted to the premium Switch OLED (2021), and InnoLux makes a 5.5-inch LCD display - sported by the entry-level Switch Lite (2019). A next-gen Switch console successor is rumored to be deep into development but is not expected to arrive this year - Nintendo's CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, informed investors (last week) that new hardware is due at some point after April 2024.

Shipments of Gaming Monitors Fell to 19.8 Million Units in 2022, Expected to Recover in 2023

TrendForce's latest research revealed that shipments of gaming monitors have seen their first decline since 2016 due to high inflation, resulting in only 19.8 million units being shipped in 2022 for a 13% YoY decline. TrendForce predicts that demand should recover in 2023 however, jumping back up to 20.8 million units—an increase of 5% YoY. This recovery will mostly be driven by three factors: First, a number of brands are replacing their 75 Hz models with 100 Hz models. Second, the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games is scheduled to take place in the third quarter, where Esports is set to be one of the competing categories. This will help drive up demand for gaming products. Lastly, China has finally begun lifting COVID restrictions, which means demand for Internet cafes should gradually recover.

TrendForce reveals that vertical alignment (VA) LCD monitors took the lion's share of the market in 2022 at 51%. This was followed by in-plane switching (IPS) LCD monitors at 43.4%, and finally twisted nematic (TN) LCD monitors accounted for 5%. However, it's worth noting that OLED gaming monitors have grown in popularity, taking 0.6% of the market share in 2022. Thanks to the diversification of OLED products, that market share is expected to grow to 1.6% in 2023. Furthermore, TrendForce predicts that IPS monitors may begin competing with VA monitors given that not only are IPS products increasing their market share but many IPS gaming monitors are seeing a continuous price reduction.

Thermaltake Unveils LCD Panel Kits for Ceres 500 Cases

Thermaltake today unveiled LCD Panel Kits for the Ceres 500 mid-tower case the company had launched in January. The cases have a preparation for this optional accessory, but don't include them. The company released black- and white- color variants that match the variants of Ceres 500 cases you have. The LCD Panel kit replaces a portion of the horizontal partition of the case, with a 3.9-inch color LCD display panel with 480 x 128 pixels resolution, that faces the left side. This panel interfaces with TT RGB Plus 2.0 software over an internal USB 2.0 connection, and can be made to display just about anything. By default, its home-screen puts out weather data that TT RGB Plus 2.0 pulls from the Internet, but the screen can be made to put out real-time system monitoring stats for system cooling, among other interesting things. The LCD Panel Kits for Ceres 500 are expected to be available from March 16.

Gaming Monitor Market Faces Inaugural Downturn with 2022 Shipments Downgraded to 20.5 Million Units

According to the latest TrendForce research, shipments of gaming monitors are in decline for the first time since the product category was launched to market, with 2022 estimates lowered to 20.5 million units, a 10% drop YoY. The primary reasons for this downgrade are intensifying inflation in Europe and spiking interest rates in North America which have upset and displaced demand for consumer electronics products. In addition, delays in launching high-end graphics cards has also led some e-sports consumers to consider postponing purchases.

According to TrendForce, judging from the market share of flat and curved gaming monitors, curved gaming surfaces accounted for approximately 41% of the market in 2021. In 2022, this share will increase to 44% and is expected to have a chance to reach 46% in 2023. In addition to an increased supply of curved monitor panels and their high price-performance ratio, growth in the market share of Ultra-Wide products is also one of the reasons for the rise of curved products.

LCD Monitor Demand Continues to Weaken in 2H22, Annual Shipments at Only 139.9 Million Units, Says TrendForce

According to TrendForce research, global LCD monitor shipments reached 72.3 million units in 1H22, a level on par with to the same period in 2021. Certain whole devices orders in 4Q21 were deferred to 1Q22 due to logistics and transportation issues. In addition, some brands felt optimistic regarding the outlook for 2022, so they initiated aggressive promotions to stimulate sales in 1Q22. Although the Russian-Ukrainian war and rising inflation have seriously impacted demand in the European consumer market since Q2, demand for business models is still positive, which in turn bridges the gap left by the consumer market.

Looking forward to LCD monitor market trends in 2H22, TrendForce indicates, since most orders for business models had been digested by the end of 2Q22, coupled with the sluggishness of new orders, overall business demand momentum has not been as good as in 1H22. Consumer models are affected by rising inflation and interest rate hikes in the United States and market consumption continues in lethargy. LCD monitor shipments are expected to decrease by 5.4% and 2.4% QoQ in 3Q22 and 4Q22, respectively. The proportion of shipments in the first and second half of the year will fall at approximately 51.7: 48.3.

LCD Monitor Panel shipments Forecast to Drop 11.3% QoQ in 2Q22 with Weak Demand Continuing into 2H22, Says TrendForce

According to TrendForce research, terminal demand remains weak due to repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, rising inflation, and China's pandemic lockdowns as monitor brands began to reduce purchasing of LCD monitor panels in 2Q22. LCD monitors panel shipments in 2Q22 are estimated at 42.5 million units, down 11.3% QoQ. According to TrendForce analysis, monitor brands set fairly high shipment targets in early 2022. Coupled with the impact of LCD monitor panel shortages in 2021, monitor brands gravitated towards overbuying panels in 1Q22 to prepare for ensuing shipments. Driven by strong demand from monitor brands, shipments of LCD monitor panels reached 47.9 million units in 1Q22, up 20% YoY, the highest level for the period since 2012.

However, due to changes in the international political and economic landscape in February this year, the market for consumer models has cooled and monitor brands have successively revised their LCD monitor shipment targets downward and simultaneously lowered their panel purchase volumes. In the face of interest rate hikes by the world's major central banks and slowing economic growth, companies have also begun exercising caution in terms of capital expenditures, which has slowed demand for business-grade LCD monitors. In the past, inventory issues emerged and the overall market became oversupplied when monitor brands overstocked as consumer and business demand gradually cooled.
