According to the latest TrendForce research, shipments of gaming monitors are in decline for the first time since the product category was launched to market, with 2022 estimates lowered to 20.5 million units, a 10% drop YoY. The primary reasons for this downgrade are intensifying inflation in Europe and spiking interest rates in North America which have upset and displaced demand for consumer electronics products. In addition, delays in launching high-end graphics cards has also led some e-sports consumers to consider postponing purchases.

In 2022, this share will increase to 44% and is expected to have a chance to reach 46% in 2023. Back in October 2020, Logitech launched the Ultimate Ears UE FITS earbuds, with its unique feature being custom moldable tips. This in itself wasn't something new, but the trick here was that it could be done at home, using built in LEDs in the earbuds that warmed out the gel-like material, something referred to as Lightform Technology. Now it looks like Logitech is about to launch an updated version of the FITS under its Logitech G gaming brand, based on a leak from 91mobiles. The overall design remains the same from what we can tell from the pictures, although we don't know if anything has changed on the inside.

What we do know is that the Logitech G FITS will come with a USB dongle, as well as what looks like a USB-A to USB-C adapter, so the G FITS can be used with both PCs and consoles, in addition to phones and tablets. The UE FITS have dropped significantly in price since launch, as they now retail for around US$179, versus US$249 at launch. We'd expect Logitech to charge slightly more for the G FITS, due to the inclusion of the USB dongle.

TÜV Rheinland Group (TÜV Rheinland), a global leader in third-party testing and certification, and Eyesafe, a leader in blue light management and display solutions, today announced the release of the Eyesafe Display Requirements 2.0. The partners introduced the Eyesafe Display Requirements 1.0 in 2019, establishing an industry benchmark for low blue light emissions. Global PC companies and suppliers including Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, GIGABYTE, BenQ, LG Display, BOE and others have since adopted the requirements for a broad array of products from OLED TVs to high performance laptops and monitors. The decision to develop and release the new Eyesafe Display Requirements 2.0 is based on advancements in research - specifically, a more complete understanding of the potential risks associated with exposure to blue light. The Eyesafe Display Requirements 2.0 simplify the existing requirements and focuses on Blue Light Toxicity Factor (BLTF) as the primary metric of blue light risk, utilizing a more complete portion of the blue light hazard region on the spectrum of visible light.

The Eyesafe Display Requirements 2.0 establish a limit of 0.085 for BLTF and address the industry's need for accurate color quality. The new requirements are detailed in the accompanying white paper titled "Defining Blue Light Requirements for Digital Displays." The new requirements reflect the input of world-renowned optometrists and ophthalmologists. TÜV Rheinland will begin offering the Eyesafe Display Requirements 2.0 Certification in July 2022. Along with the simplified requirements, TÜV Rheinland and Eyesafe are introducing the concept of Radiance Protection Factor for Display (RPF ). The introduction of RPF will translate BLTF into a numerical scale from 0-100, making Eyesafe Display Requirements easy to understand for consumers. Consumer electronics companies will be able to utilize RPF as a mechanism to help consumers identify and compare the blue light protection of a given device. PNY released the top-spec model of the XLR8 MAKO RGB series, with the XLR8 DDR5-6000 MAKO RGB. Designed for enthusiast PC builds, the memory modules are characterized by an aluminium heatspreader crowned by a frost-white lighting diffuser with addressable-RGB LEDs underneath, dubbed EPIC-X RGB lighting. Available in 16 GB single-module and 32 GB two-module kits, these sticks pack an Intel XMP 3.0 profile that runs them at DDR5-6000 (PC5-48000) with CL38 latency, and 1.3 V module voltage. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Driven by forces such as the pandemic, geopolitics, and the digital transformation of everyday life, there has been a shortage of global foundry production capacity for nearly two years and shortages have been especially severe for mature 1Xnm~180nm nodes, according to TrendForce's investigations. Although all foundries are furiously increasing capital expenditures to expand capacity, unrealized future expansion does not ease existing supply issues. In addition, the uneven distribution of supply chain resources that has exacerbated the shortage of parts and components has yet to be definitively alleviated. Circumstances as a whole will continue affecting shipments of related whole devices. Only the PC category is expected to emerge largely unscathed in 1Q22.

Moving into 1Q22, TrendForce states, due to the limited increase in production capacity, the market's supply situation is expected to be approximately the same as in 4Q21. However, some end products have entered their traditional off-season cycle and the slowdown in demand momentum is expected to alleviate the immediate pressure on OEMs and ODMs regarding supply chain stocking.

The semicondustor market in 3Q21 is red hot with total revenue of the global top 10 IC design (fabless) companies reaching US$33.7 billion or 45% growth YoY, according to TrendForce's latest investigations. In addition to the Taiwanese companies MediaTek, Novatek, and Realtek already on the list, Himax comes in at number ten, bringing the total number of Taiwanese companies on the top 10 list to 4.

Qualcomm has been buoyed by continuing robust demand for 5G mobile phones form major mobile phone manufacturers with further revenue growth from its processor and radio frequency front end (RFFE) departments. Qualcomm's IoT department benefited from strong demand in the consumer electronics, edge networking, and industrial sectors, posting revenue growth of 66% YoY, highest among Qualcomm departments. In turn, this drove Qualcomm's total 3Q21 revenue to US$7.7 billion, 56% growth YoY, and ranking first in the world.

As the global vaccination rate rose, and border restrictions in Europe and North America eased, social activities also began to enter a period of recovery, with the consumer electronics market seemingly ready for the arrival of the traditional peak season in 2H21, according to TrendForce's latest investigations. At the same time, however, the global supply chain was affected by delays in maritime transport, skyrocketing shipping costs, and component shortages, in addition to already-prohibitive price hikes for certain components in 1H21. Given the parallel rise in both material and manufacturing costs, the market for end products has not undergone the expected cyclical upturn in 2H21. Even so, the overall demand for and shipment of smartphones, notebook computers, and monitors experienced QoQ increases in 3Q21, thereby driving up businesses for major OSAT (outsourced semiconductor assembly and test) companies. For 3Q21, the revenues of the top 10 OSAT companies reached US$8.89 billion, a 31.6% YoY increase.
