Overclocked AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Sets World Record on Air

AMD's Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card debuted yesterday and in the overall test results, we saw that it runs just a few percent behind NVIDIA's direct competitor - GeForce RTX 3080. However, when it comes to overclocking and world records, the card has just set one. Popular extreme overclocker Alva Jonathan aka "LUCKY_NOOB", has managed to overclock the Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU and set a new world record with the card. Paired with LN2 cooled Ryzen 9 5950X clocked at 5.4 GHz, the graphics card was cooled by... air cooler? Indeed it was. Lucky has managed to clock the RX 6800 XT at 2650 MHz using the reference air cooler. With that system, he managed to score 47932 points in 3DMark FireStrike.

The overclocker has modified 3DMark's tessellation to presumably give the Radeon card more performance, so the score isn't valid on the official 3DMark charts. What gives the overclocker an idea of a world record is the fact that HWBOT actually accepts those numbers, which ranks it higher than the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card that scored 47725 points. Despite the modifications, it is impressive to see AMD's card rank that high, and as more overclockers are getting their hands on these cards, it is a question if we are going to see the 3 GHz barrier broken by a Radeon card.

Overclockers Achieve 1000 FPS On Doom Eternal

When id Tech's lead developer announced that id Tech 7 the game engine responsible for Doom Eternal could run at 1000 FPS many assumed current hardware wouldn't be able to hit the mark. Polish hardware retailer X-kom in collaboration with Bethesda has achieved this feat with only consumer hardware and some serious liquid nitrogen overclocking. The challenge was part of the QuakeCon at Home event and saw X-kom push the Intel Core i7 9700K to 6.6 GHz paired with an ASUS RTX 2080Ti Strix overclocked to 2.4 GHz. The motherboard used was the ASUS Maximus XI APEX which was powered by a 1200 W Be Quiet Straight Power supply.

AMD Ryzen 3 3100 Pushed to 5.92 GHz Under LN2 Cooling

The Ryzen 3 3100 is turning out to be a fun little toy for enthusiasts. PC enthusiast TSAIK succeeded in overclocking it to 5923 MHz under extreme cooling. The chip was fed 1.45 Volts, and put under liquid nitrogen cooling, to achieve the feat. An MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk motherboard and a single stick of 8 GB memory underclocked to DDR4-1600 made the rest of the critical hardware. The feat is the second highest OC record for a "Zen 2" powered processor, next only to TSAIK's own speed record with the flagship Ryzen 9 3950X, which was pushed to 6041 MHz. Touring the Bitspower Suite at CES 2020

Visiting Bitspower at CES or Computex is a real adventure of sorts in terms of not knowing what to expect. Last year, for example, we were greeted to LN2 pots of all things, in addition to new blocks and fans that made their way to the retail market over the subsequent months. It was also interesting to take a look back at the concept of the Premium Summit M CPU block from last year, knowing what it turned out now. This year, the company hosted us again at CES and had a large hotel suite full of products- refreshes, and new alike. We take a look at their offerings here, and be sure to read past the break for more.

The very first thing we saw was a distribution plate/case hybrid, which Bitspower wants to bring out as a test bench case later this year. There have been other such executions come out recently, including some at CES from other companies, and this is a natural extension of the distro plate development that has caught the mind of several custom watercooling companies for one reason or another. This particular version uses two Xylem DDC pumps with Bitspower heatsinks, and has four large feet to prop up the finished build horizontally for testing/display. Bitspower expects to introduce the finalized version at Computex later this year, and are seeking feedback from our readers on what features they would like to see here.

ADATA XPG SPECTRIX D60G Breaks Overclocking Record at DDR4-5634 MHz

ADATA Technology, a leading manufacturer of high-performance DRAM modules, NAND Flash products, and mobile accessories today announces that the XPG Overclocking Lab (XOCL) has overclocked the SPECTRIX D60G RGB DDR4 memory module to a frequency of 5634 MT/s, a new record. The previous record was 5608 MT/s. The milestone was achieved with an Intel Core i9 chipset and MSI MPG Z390I GAMING EDGE AC motherboard in an LN2-cooled configuration. The results have been certified and published on HWBOT.

The D60G is built with high-quality chips and a metal heat sink for excellent signal integrity, reliability, and stability, which effectively extends the lifespan of the memory module. What's more, Intel Extreme Memory (XMP) 2.0 profiles make overclocking a snap and enhance system stability. Instead of adjusting individual parameters in BIOS, users can do it right through their PC's operating system.

EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti KINGPIN Out Now

EVGA today released its flagship graphics card, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti KINGPIN, designed by the legendary Vince "KINGPIN" Lucido himself. Unlike past generations of KINGPIN-branded flagships by EVGA, this card features an all-in-one closed-loop liquid cooling solution that's factory-fitted. The cold-plate of this CLC cools the GPU and memory, while a dedicated copper heatsink pulls heat from the VRM, and is ventilated by a 100 mm fan. Dissipating heat is a 240 mm x 120 mm radiator with two included high air-flow fans. For DIY liquid-cooling enthusiasts, EVGA is separately selling the Hydro Copper full-coverage water-block for this card. KINGPIN Cooling may offer LN2 evaporators for this card.

The PCB of this card has been designed by legendary volt-modder Illya "TiN" Tsemenko, and is an outstanding 12-layer thick, with high dispersion of electrical and signal traces to minimize interference. A 16+3 phase VRM powers the beast, made up of the most expensive components the industry has to offer. The VRM pulls power from three 8-pin PCIe power connectors.

Bitspower at CES 2019- New Blocks, Sensor Displays, Fans, and LN2 Cooling!

CES may have officially ended but our coverage from the trade show continues. Bitspower had invited TechPowerUp to come visit their suite, mentioning there would be something new and unexpected, and that indeed was the case. Our tour began with the customary showcase of the new GPU water blocks compatible with reference, and board partner designs, for the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 and relatively new AIC RTX 2070/80(Ti) cards as well. These feature integrated RGB lighting compatible with all major motherboard lighting solutions for control, and adopt the split central-inlet flow design as well.

EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Kingpin Pictured in the Flesh

EVGA has been teasing its flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Kingpin graphics card for well over a month now, and we've finally had a chance to pick one up in the flesh. This card is every professional overclocker's liquid-cooled wet-dream, with a PCB designed with inputs from Vince "Kingpin" Lucido, and a hybrid AIO-CLC cooling solution. The PCB features a 19-phase VRM that pulls power from three 8-pin PCIe power connectors located at the tail end of the card. The CLC makes contact with the GPU, while a copper base-plate, mated with several copper heatsinks over the memory and VRM areas, offload some of their heat to the block. A 100 mm fan ventilates some of these heatsinks.

A 120 mm radiator is on the other end of the card's CLC. This time around, the cooler actually serves a significant function besides being something you rip apart to install your LN2 evaporator: the shroud is studded with an LCD display with a limited feature-set resembling that of the EVBot. Right next to this LCD are diagnostic LEDs, voltage measurement points, a BIOS selector switch, and headers for a full-featured EVBot-like device. The GPU and memory chips are hand-binned for this card, and most of its electrical components are sourced from top bins. These come together for an ungodly amount of overclocking headroom not just with exotic DIY cooling, but also out of the box.

Intel Core i9-9900K Overclocked to 6.9 GHz On All Cores - With LN2

Intel took their opportunity to add a golden sheen to their new 9th Gen CPUs by going as far as showcasing their extreme overclocking capabilities right from the launch event. partering with world-renowned overclocker Splave, Intel showcased how a Core i9-9900K can withstand up to 1.7V Vcore, with a little aid from yours truly liquid nitrogen.

That scorchingly high Vcore paired with the sub-zero temperatures of LN2 allowed for all CPU cores to be overclocked up to 6.9 GHz, with Splave saying some samples could reach 7.1 GHz across all cores. Intel then went on to show some of the increased performance benchmarks - which, as you'd expect, don't showcase a linear performance improvement with increased frequency. Still, it's an impressive pure voltage and frequency feat. Splave went on to say that these new 9th Gen Intel processors can now achieve some 5.3 GHz under watercooling and at a much more mundane 1.4V Vcore. We'll all be able to test that for ourselves soon now won't we?

EVGA Also Teases Possible Z390 DARK Motherboard

It's been a busy past 48 hours at EVGA, with the launch of the B360 Micro motherboard, unveiling of the NVLink bridges, and now a teaser of what could very well be the company's Z390 DARK motherboard, targeted at professional overclockers. K|ngp|n shared this teaser image of the board on social media, revealing a socket LGA1151 motherboard that's laid out like an LN2 overclocker's dream - memory slots north of the CPU sockets, CPU VRM to its west and south, and power drawn from a combination of 24-pin ATX and two 8-pin EPS connectors angled away toward the east. A cluster of 7-segment LED displays put out diagnostic codes. The designers seem to have opted for an expensive 8~10-layer PCB that's rich in copper. We'll hear more about this beauty as the Z390 platform launches later this month.

GALAX Starts Selling OC Lab Edition GPU Pot for Extreme LN2 Overclocking

GALAX has announced availability of their OC Lab Edition GPU Pot, a non-plant-based solution for users to cool their graphics cards with. The OC Lab Edition GPU Pot is fully made of 99.9% purity copper, which allows it to withstand up to -196 ºC. Not many more details are available for now, except pricing, and it's something to definitely not smile about: the OC Lab Edition GPU Pot will cost users $229.99.

GALAX, however, being a customer-friendly brand, are suggesting users put down an order for three of these OC Lab Edition GPU Pot alongside three of their own Galax HOF OC Lab WC cards, which go for $1,799... netting you a $600 discount on the pots. So, yeah. There's that. If you want it.

EVGA Unveils ROBOCLOCKER - Extreme, Semi-Closed Loop LN2 Cooling Solution

EVGA today announced a new development achieved by its engineering teams and in-house overclockers Vince "KINGPIN" Lucido and Illya "TiN" Tsemenko. The new solution, dubbed the ROBOCLOCKER, aims to allow for greater efficiency and ease-of-use in extreme cooling solutions using liquid nitrogen, by providing a basis for a semi-closed loop.

EVGA says this new extreme cooling solution allowed KINGPIN and TiN to break 5 new 3DMark World Records, thus paving the way for future World Record overclocking setups. You can watch a video demonstrating the ROBOCLOCKER in action after the break.

Intel Core i7 8700K Already OC'd to 7.45 GHz under LN2; 100% Frequency Increase

Hot from the semiconductor presses, but even hotter from our very own reviews of Intel's latest-generation Coffee Lake CPUs, Intel's 8700K, unlocked six-core, 12-threaded processor has already been overclocked up to 7.45 GHz under extreme cooling. The feat, achieved by HWBOT user Kovan Yang, currently stands in first place of 8700 K processors, and is in sixth-place in overall CPU frequency ranking - which marks the first time in a while an Intel Core branded processor has achieved such a feat.

The overclock was achieved in a system that was configured with MSI's Z370 Godlike Gaming motherboard, unspecified DDR4 memory, an NVIDIA 8400 GS graphics card. The INtel 8700K was configured with a multiplier of 73x, and the base BUS speed was increased to 101 MHz. Expect more daring overclocks with Intel's latest family of Core processors in the future - der8auer has achieved a speed of 7.3 GHz on the same processor already, but more users and big overclock players are sure to make their overclocking feats known. In our own review, our very own W1zzard found that Intel's latest 8700K was the fastest, more future-proof consumer-level, non-HEDT Intel processor, and that it can be easily overclocked on air to 5 GHz.

Intel Core i9-7980XE 18-Core CPU @ 6.1 GHz on All Cores, Consumes up to 1000 W

Overclocker extraordinaire Der8auer has been able to put Intel's flagship, HCC HEDT 7980XE CPU, through its paces under extreme cooling, which resulted in a veritable show of force from the blue giant. Intel's $1,979, 18-core, 36-thread CPU has cemented itself as the flagship consumer CPU of choice, surpassing AMD's 1950X Threadripper in all fields. And yes, we do mean single-core and multi-core benchmarks, but also power consumption figures.

With 18 cores in need of adequate cooling, every piece of real-estate that may serve as an heatsink of sorts comes at a premium; that is why thermal paste for this Intel processor was applied not only to the CPU die itself, but also to the entire PCB around it. Der8auer says that doing this allows heat to be better dissipated form the CPU die, allowing for up to 400 MHz increased clock-speeds under load. Direct contact with the die was also tried, and achieved by cutting off the central pat of the IHS, while keeping the edges of it as a way of better load balancing the weight of the cooler (in this case, an LN2 cooler) over the CPU's PCB, in order to avoid different amounts of pressure on the CPU pins. However, the extreme overclocker ended up not recommending that venue, for it didn't offer consistent success in their extreme cooling efforts.

GALAX Announces GPU Overclocking Products - Power Board and LN2 Memory Pot

GALAX is apparently on the verge of launching two GPU overclocking-specific products, materialized in the HOF Power Board and an LN2 memory pot kit. Built to increase overclockability in your graphics card of choice, the GALAX power board will allow you to feed the GPU with way more power than it is designed to receive - provided you have decent cooling for the increased temperatures and operating voltages. And with the caveat of whether or not your GPU manufacturer of choice allows such changes in voltage.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper Breaks 5.2 GHz + X399 Boards on Display!

AMD did not just announce retail availability on Ryzen Threadripper today, they also had some on-site and arranged for a fun LN2 overclocking event as part of Capsaicin SIGGRAPH 2017. As always, such events are to give day one estimates on the maximum performance potential of the silicon which in turn guides end users and board partners alike on the worst case scenarios as far as power draw and cooling requirements go.

Monstru from Lab501 was kind enough to share a couple of pictures of the actual event with us while AMD followed up with a Cinebench R15 screenshot as seen below. All 16 cores of the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X were overclocked to 5.2 GHz with a x52 multiplier on a standard 100 MHz bus speed. Core VID from CPU-Z is not trustworthy at these temperatures, so presumably it was more in the range of 1.6 V than 1.16 V. They did have DDR4 RAM in quad channel but at the JEDEC base of 2133 MHz to get as high a CPU frequency without the IMC being a factor. The Cinebench R15 score of 4122 cb is very impressive, given the previous high score for a 16-core CPU was 2867 cb, and it took a 28 core CPU to beat this score before. Sure, the days of high core count overclockable CPUs is only coming now but it goes to show where we were before AMD and Intel both decided to go big this generation.

Intel Core i9 7900X Overclocked to 6.01 GHz Under LN2 - Beats HWBOT World Record

HWBOT user sofos1990 took an Intel Core i9 CPU to party like it was the nineties, straddling it under a LN2 cooling chamber to achieve the enormous 6.01 GHz overclocked frequency (82.3% over stock clocks). The achieved score, at 12189.52 points, settles this run as the highest-scoring 10-core score ever, and also becomes the highest single-processor system score ever achieved in the platform. This was done under an extremely crispy 1.6 V processor vCore, though, so it definitely wasn't for the faint of heart.

Intel Core i9-7900X Overclocked To 5.7GHz Breaking Cinebench World Records

Now that Intel has officially rolled out its "Core-X" family based on the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X CPUs, overclocking of them has begun in earnest for those lucky few who have one in hand. As per usual, benchmarkers at the extreme end of the spectrum tend to shoot for the moon no holds barred, driven by the fumes of LN2 cooling. For one lucky i9-7900X owner calling himself "Elmor," he took his rightful place among the benchmarking stars, shattering the previous Cinebench world record for a 10-core chip with a very respectable 5.7GHz final clock. His score in Cinebench R15 was 3181, while Cinebench R11.5 scored 34.79.

Remember that EVGA card to end all cards? Well, EVGA has now officially announced it. Built in collaboration with overclocker K|ngp|n (Vince Lucido), the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti K|ngp|n Edition Graphics Card sports a cooler that builds upon the iCX technology innovations EVGA has been moving towards. In addition, the company has redoubled efforts towards packing the highest-grade electrical components in this graphics card for extreme overclocking methods, even going so far as to include support (via a connector) to external overclocking modules such as EVBot.

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X Overclocked to 5.90 GHz

New processor launches are closely followed by clock-speed and benchmark records, and that applies to even AMD's Ryzen 5 1600X six-core processor. Professional overclocker Der8auer succeeded in overclocking the chip to 5905.64 MHz without having to disable any cores. The feat was possible due to liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling. The clock was made possibly by running the chip with a base-clock of 129.79 MHz, and a multiplier of 45.5X. The core-voltage is unclear. The processor was paired with an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboard, and G.Skill Trident Z memory.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Overclocked to over 3 GHz under LN2

Overclocking prodigy k|ngp|n has managed what some thought impossible: he pushed a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti over the 3 GHz barrier. And this was done using a modded Founder's Edition card, no less, so chances are some AIB cards will be able to achieve even better overclocks.

The massive overclock on the core was accompanied by a massive memory overclocking as well, which pushed the graphics card to over 500 GB/s of bandwidth. At the time, it isn't known whether the overclock was stable enough for benchmarking - but if it were, this would surely be the fastest consumer-grade GPU on the planet. The overclock was confirmed using TechPowerUp's own GPU-Z.

AMD Ryzen 7-1800X Cracks 5.20 GHz OC with LN2 and All Eight Cores Enabled

AMD's upcoming Ryzen series processors promise to be an overclocker's treat. A PC enthusiast with access to a Ryzen 7-1800X sample managed to achieve an extreme overclock of 5.20 GHz with liquid-nitrogen cooling, and more importantly, not having to disable any cores to stabilize the OC. The 5201.07 MHz overclock, achieved by cranking the base-clock up to 137.78 MHz, and the multiplier up to 37.75X, backed by a core voltage of 1.875V, was even tested to be bench-stable, scoring 2,363 points in Cinebench R15. This also reveals that you should be able to finely crank up the base-clock multiplier in steps of 0.25X, (as opposed to 0.5X). The Ryzen 7-1800X will be available on the 2nd of March, 2017, priced at $499.

Cooler Master Intros Master Gel Series Thermal Compounds

Cooler Master introduced a trio of high-performance thermal interface materials (TIMs), under the new Master Gel series. These include the Master Gel, the Master Gel Pro, and the Master Gel Maker Nano. The Master Gel is the most affordable of the three, targeted at gaming PC builds, as a replacement to the stock TIM your an air-cooler ships with. Its main feature is low viscosity, enabling easier application. It also has zero burn-in time. The Master Gel Pro is slightly more premium, with higher metal particle density, for higher thermal conductivity than the Master Gel. This is targeted at enthusiasts with DIY liquid cooling setups. Leading the pack is the Master Gel Maker Nano. This has the highest metal nano-particle density, for thermal conductivity as high as 11 W/m.k, and is targeted at professional overclockers with extreme cooling setups, such as LN2 and dry-ice.
