Intel announced that laptops verified through its innovation program, code-named "Project Athena," will feature the visual identifier "Engineered for Mobile Performance." PC manufacturers and retailers can use the identifier across promotional activities and in-store and online retail environments to draw consumers to the laptops that meet the high standards of the program's target specification and key experience indicators (KEI).

The new identifier can be found for the first time today with the new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, one of the initial systems verified through Project Athena and now available for U.S. customers to purchase from Dell.com. Over the coming weeks, the identifier will also be visible in marketing efforts for the HP Elitebook 1040 and HP Elitebook 830, which are also among the initial laptops verified through the program. Additional laptops are expected from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung for the holiday season.

AMD invited TechPowerUp to their launch event and editor's day coverage of Zen 2 EPYC processors based on the 7 nm process. The event was a day-long affair which included product demos and tours, and capped off with an official launch presentation which we are able to share with you live as the event goes on. Zen 2 with the Ryzen 3000-series processors ushered in a lot of excitement, and for good reason too as our own reviews show, but questions remained on how the platform would scale to the other end of the market. We already knew, for example, that AMD secured many contracts based on their first-generation EPYC processors, and no doubt the IPC increase and expected increased core count would cause similar, if not higher, interest here. We also expect to know shortly about the various SKUs and pricing involved, and also if AMD wants to shed more light on the future of the Threadripper processor family. AMD today announced revenue for the first quarter of 2019 of $1.27 billion, operating income of $38 million, net income of $16 million and diluted
earnings per share of $0.01. On a non-GAAP(*) basis, operating income was $84 million, net income was $62 million and diluted earnings per share was $0.06.

"We delivered solid first quarter results with significant gross margin expansion as Ryzen and EPYC processor and datacenter GPU revenue more than doubled year-over-year," said Dr. Lisa Su, AMD president and CEO. "We look forward to the upcoming launches of our next-generation 7nm PC, gaming
and datacenter products which we expect to drive further market share gains and financial growth."

Today, AMD announced the latest additions to its PRO processor lineup: 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen PRO mobile processors with Radeon Vega Graphics and AMD Athlon PRO mobile processors with Radeon Vega Graphics. Providing commercial notebook users with power-efficient performance, state-of-the-art security features, and commercial-grade reliability and manageability, these new processors enable global PC manufacturers to create a wide range of business systems, from premium professional notebooks to everyday productivity notebooks. Initial commercial systems from HP and Lenovo are expected this quarter with other OEMs and further platform updates anticipated later in 2019.

"Modern PC users expect the experience between professional and personal to be imperceptible, and business notebook users want to utilize the latest modern features including 3D modeling, video editing, multi-display setups while multitasking securely, to get more done," said Saeid Moshkelani, senior vice president and general manager, Client Compute, AMD. "With AMD Ryzen PRO and Athlon PRO mobile processors, AMD delivers the right performance, features, and choice to OEMs and commercial users, combined with the productivity, protection, and professional features needed to ensure seamless deployment throughout an organization."

Oculus today announced an improvement to their original Rift headset, the Oculus Rift S. The new headset from oculus builds upon advances in their view of a VR experience, as well as from learnings acquired through the development of the original Rift, the smartphone-only Oculus Go, and the standalone Oculus Quest, to deliver the new, ultimate VR experience in the Oculus field.

The Oculus S features improved panels with a 2560x1440 resolution (just like the Oculus GO), offering 40% more pixels and improving the pixel subsystem with groupings of three instead of two. It also features Oculus Quest's Inside-Out tracking capabilities, with five cameras instead of the Quests' four, alongside redesigned controllers.

The class action lawsuit levied against Lenovo and Superfish for the Visual Discovery adware has long since been settled. With roughly 800,000 laptops sold between September 2014 and February 2015 having been affected and therefore qualifying for a claim estimated at up to $40. While claims can go higher with proof, the majority of claimants will likely pick the easy option. That said, a rumor from Media Post is now stating users may be eligible for up to $55 thanks in part to fewer people coming forward than initially expected. This is likely not true as the settlement came out January 11th. Even so, this new rumor gaining traction at least serves as a good reminder that if you haven't done so and you have a system that qualifies (listed after the break) you can go here and submit a claim. All claimants have until March 25th, 2019 to file there claim.

While AMD has enjoyed tremendous success in regards to their Ryzen, Threadripper, and EPYC processors penetration into the mobile market has been a bit slow. However, judging by the number of systems on display at CES 2019 that is about to change. Models from Honor, Acer, Samsung, Lenovo, Dell, ASUS, and HP. The one that immediately caught our eye was the Acer Nitro 5 which packs an AMD Ryzen 5 2500U CPU and an AMD Radeon RX 560X GPU. It also comes configured with 8 GB of memory, 256 GB SSD, IPS display and a backlit keyboard. Overall it looks to be a reliable entry level gaming system.

Next up was Dell's two offerings which were the Inspiron 5000 15 and 5000 14 2-in-1. The Inspiron 5000 15 was equipped with a 4c/8t Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega 8 graphics (512 shaders). It was also fully kitted out with 32 GB of DDR4 memory, 512 GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD making it an excellent option for productivity and heavy multitasking. Meanwhile, the 2-in-1 was equipped with a Ryzen 7 3700U which is a 4c/8t processor with Vega 10 graphics (640 shaders). It also came loaded with 16 GB of DDR4, 2 TB HDD and a 256 GB SSD giving it plenty of memory and storage space considering its more compact size.

Lenovo also showed off their Legion Y44w 3840x1200 ultra-wide monitor at CES and quite honestly it is vast measuring in at the 43.4 inches. The display makes use of a WVA borderless 1800R curved panel which offers a crisp image as it covers 99% of the sRGB, BT.709 and DCI-P3 color gamuts. Max brightness was listed as 450 cd/m2 with support for the HDR 400 (Vesa) standard. Naturally, in today's market, no gaming monitor would be caught dead at 60 Hz as such the Legion Y44w supports a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz with a gray to gray response time of 4 ms with Overdrive enabled. Oh, and it supports AMD FreeSync 2 technology just for good measure.

Creature comforts include a stand that offers lift, tilt and swivel functionality alongside detachable Harmon Kardon powered speakers. There is no shortage of input options either which consist of 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x USB 3.1 Type-C (Gen2), 1x USB 3.1 Type-C(Gen1), Audio out, 4x USB 3.0 port Hub (1 with BC1.2). General availability is expected in April 2019. No information on pricing was available during our visit.

While we covered some of Lenovo's products at CES already, we took a closer look at the Legion series of laptops which includes the Y740 and Y540 models. The Y740 comes in 17-inch and 15.6-inch flavors and is the offering most likely to intrigue enthusiast gamers as it comes with up to an Intel Core i7-8750H processor which has 6c/12t, 2.2 GHz base clock and 4.1 GHz boost clocks. To go with that is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q for that should have no problems delivering an exceptional gaming experience considering Lenovo has paired it with a solid 1080p, 300 nits, 144 Hz, G-Sync display. Potential buyers also have the choice of a Dolby Vision HDR 400 500 nit display as well. Memory capacity ranges from 8 GB all the way to 32 GB of 2666 MHz DDR4. The choice for faster 3200 MHz Corsair memory is also available.

When it comes to storage, there are multiple choices including up to a 512 GB PCIe SSD/ 512 GB SATA SSD or 2TB HDD. Powering it all is a 57 Wh 3 cell battery in the 15.6-inch model while the 17-inch gets a 76 Wh 4 cell battery. All told the unit's base configuration starts at 2.2 kg / 4.8 lbs and 2.9 kg / 6.3 lbs for the 15.6-inch and 17-inch respectively. In terms of size the smaller of the two measures 362 x 267 x 19.95 mm (14.2 x 10.5 x 0.78 inches) while the larger offering is 413 x 305 x 21.95 mm (16.25 x 12 x 0.66 inches). Connectivity options are quite plentiful on the Y740 and include 1x USB-C ( Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, USB 3.1), 1x HDMI, 1x LAN, 3x USB 3.1 Gen2 and finally a single mini-DP port. Other features include an anti-ghost Corsair ICUE RGB backlit keyboard, RGB chassis lighting, Killer WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 and a solid aluminum chassis. The Lenovo Y740 should be available starting in February.

It was about 6 months ago that we posted a news story about how a Lenovo representative mentioned that the successor to NVIDIA's GeForce 10-series of GPUs would be named the 11-series. Fast forward in time, we know how that turned out with the recently announced RTX 20-series instead. The rumor mill has not taken a break over the holidays, however, with consistent postings and speculation online about how NVIDIA will announce not only the RTX 2060 at CES 2019, but also a whole new GTX 11-series accompanying it that is aimed to meet gaming needs without real-time ray tracing support and at a lower price point respective to the equivalent RTX SKU.

Perhaps it is fitting that Lenovo provides more fuel to this fire once again, with a listing of a mobile GeForce GTX 1160 (N18E) graphic solution on their upcoming Legion Y530 and Y7000P laptops. VideoCardz.com was quick to capture a screenshot of the specs listing, seen below, that describes it as a "next generation GPU", albeit with an asterisk hinting that the specification may not be final. Indeed, Lenovo has since changed the description on that product page to remove all signs of said 11-series mobile GPUs, and the LaptopMedia specs database for the Legion Y530 also now mentions a "GTX 2060" with 6 GB of VRAM instead. The only thing we know for sure is that we are not sure of anything, and it may well be that a GeForce 11-series, if it even exists, is a mobile-only platform. Hopefully CES will shed more light on this matter, and stay tuned for our coverage of the event accordingly.

The specsheet of a Lenovo IdeaPad S530-13IWL has allowed us to know the existence of the new Intel 9000 series mobile CPUs. These are the Core i7-9550U, i5-9250U and i3-9130U. The laptop datasheet, spotted on Twitter by @momomo_us, confirms new members of that family , with "IWL" at the end of the model name meaning "Intel Whiskey Lake", a family launched last October with the Core i7-8565U, Core i5-8265U and Core i3-8145U. There is no confirmation from Intel on this rumor, and there aren't much details about the CPUs either: clock speeds and core counts are not specified, though should remain quite similar to the previous members of the 8000 series.

This information points to a light rebadge of Whiskey Lake CPUs according to NotebookCheck given that there is no mention of the 9th generation of processors. This is weird because the 8000 series is basically a synonym of the 8th Gen and the same happens with the 9000 series and the 9th generation. It seems the Core i7 will be a quad-core CPU with Hyper Threading support and 8 MB of L3 cache, while the Core i5, with the same core count, will have 6 MB of L3 cache. The Core i3 CPU would be a dual-core chip with 4 MB of L3 cache. We'll have to wait for an official confirmation to confirm the specs and advantages over the older models.

Lenovo unveiled the Titanium Enterprise NCC-1701A, a gaming PC with the phrase "enterprise" in its name. Only they aren't referring to the market-segment, but arguably the most famous ship, real or fictional, to bear the name "USS Enterprise." This gaming desktop looks like a scale-model of the Star Trek starship USS Enterprise from TOS (the original series) cinematic renditions, in which Captain Kirk and his motley crew get an upgrade to a modernized starship bearing the Starfleet registry NCC-1701-A. Perhaps the only perfectly-overlookable bits Lenovo got wrong is that bulge near the drive section, between the warp nacelles, because it accommodates some cutting-edge hardware.

Its warp-core so to speak, is a 9th generation Intel Core processor, which could very well be 8-core. In charge of its fire-power is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card. Other drool-worthy specs include 32 GB of DDR4 memory, 1 TB M.2 SSD + 2 TB HDD in charge of storage, Killer DoubleShot networking, and RGB LED embellishments all around its body. Lenovo is serious about bringing the Titanium Enterprise NCC-1701A to market, even if in small quantities. This is not a concept. Now if only the saucer section opened up from the top to reveal a Blu-ray drive, Discman-style.

Today, Lenovo is launching a brand-new addition to its ThinkPad mobile workstation portfolio - the ThinkPad P1. Lenovo's thinnest, lightest and sleekest mobile workstation, the ThinkPad P1 gives users the style they want and the performance they need.

Lenovo is mincing no words to talk about NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce 11-series graphics processors being part of its future GPU options for desktops and notebooks. LaptopMedia reports that the company is planning to make the mid-range GeForce GTX 1160 an option for its Legion Y530 15-inch gaming notebook. It features a 15.6-inch IPS display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, and a 144 Hz option for this display. Back to the GTX 1160, and LaptopMedia seems to confirm that the GPU will feature 6 GB of dedicated memory. If NVIDIA is doubling memory with this generation, this could indicate 6 GB to be a successor to the GTX 1060 3 GB; and the likelihood of a better endowed 12 GB GTX 1160 to succeed the GTX 1060 6 GB. It could be an action-packed 2H-2018 for PC graphics.

A Lenovo spokesperson inadvertantly disclosed that NVIDIA's next GeForce GTX consumer lineup will follow the numbering sequence "11-series" (eg: GTX 1180), laying to rest rumors that it could even follow the "20-series" (eg: GTX 2080) naming convention. Speaking with Brainbean at the company's E3 booth (published last week), the spokesperson was shown describing the company's Legion Cube gaming desktops, which ships with a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card in its base variant. The spokesperson is then heard saying that along the road, the company would expand its graphics options to include GeForce "11-series."

This should mean that the company will follow a predictable launch cycle of introducing its next-generation graphics architecture with the GeForce GTX 1180 and possibly GTX 1170; following it up with smaller GTX 1160 and GTX 1150; and in the following months, release the big GTX 1180 Ti. The spokesperson hints at the likelihood of Lenovo adding these as options to the Legion desktops by "Fall 2018," which could mean a DIY channel launch by late-Summer or early-Fall.The video follows.

Lenovo recently announced its latest ThinkPad P52 mobile workstation designed for 3D rendering, content creation, and AI simulations. The laptop can be equipped with a 8th generation Intel Core or Xeon hexa-core processor. What's amazing with the Lenovo ThinkPad P52 is its ability to house up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory and 6 TB of storage. The P52 flaunts a 15.6-inch 4K display with a 10-bit color depth, 100% Adobe color gamut, and 400 nits of brightness. The laptop's graphics duties are delegated to a mobile high-end NVIDIA Quadro P3200 GPU with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory.

The ThinkPad P52 comes with two Thunderbolt 3 ports alongside three USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a HDMI 2.0 port, and a mini DisplayPort 1.4. It also comes with a Smart Card and an integrated 4-in-1 card reader. Internet connectivity includes a conventional RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port, Intel Wireless-AC 9560 802.11ac adapter with integrated Bluetooth 5.0, and a Fibocomm 4G LTE (Cat 9) modem. The ThinkPad P52 isn't only fast, but it's probably one of the most secure mobile workstations to date. Lenovo implemented various security measures into the P52 such as TPM 2.0, IR camera, fingerprint reader, and ThinkShutter. The manufacturer didn't disclose the pricing of the ThinkPad P52. However, we'll find out soon as the laptop should be available by late June.

Lenovo, at Intel's Computex presser, revealed a product that could put Apple design to shame. The new Yoga Book Generation 2 is a notebook+tablet convertible, with two displays on the opposite sides of the conventional clam-shell. In the notebook mode, the bottom half converts to a keyboard, with actuators providing tactile feedback. Since the bottom half's screen is a touchscreen as much the top half, you can configure the keyboard layout and "trackpad" position any which way you want. When not typing, the bottom half becomes an extended screen of the top half. Under the hood is a "new generation" processor (very likely the 10 nm Core M3-8114Y).

Online Chinese retailer JD.com has listed Lenovo's latest Cannon Lake-based Ideapad 330 laptop on its website. The Ideapad 330 incorporates an Intel Core i3-8121U dual-core processor fabricated on Intel's 10 nm process. The processor comes with a base frequency of 2.2 GHz and lacks integrated graphics as it's been disabled. Therefore, Lenovo pairs the Intel Core i3-8121U processor with an AMD Radeon RX 540 2GB graphics card in this particular laptop. The base model is equipped with 4 GB of DDR4-2400 memory and a 500 GB 5400RPM hard drive. However, JD.com also offers numerous configurations including one with 8 GB of memory, 256 GB SSD and 1 TB hard drive.

The 15.6-inch Ideapad 330 uses a TN panel with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The laptop measures 378 x 260 x 22.7 mm and weights approximately 2.1 kg. According to JD.com, the battery life is estimated to around five hours. Connectivity options include a Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a single USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm jack, a HDMI port, and a CD/DVD drive. The base model costs 3299 CNY (~$445) while the highest-end model will set you back 4299 CNY (~$580).

AMD today announced unprecedented adoption of its AMD Ryzen PRO processors - including new notebooks and desktops powered by Ryzen PRO processors with built-in Radeon Vega graphics now available from the world's three largest enterprise PC OEMs. AMD Ryzen PRO APUs for premium commercial desktop and notebooks provide commercial PC buyers with new levels of choice and innovation and enable Dell, HP, and Lenovo to create a range of business systems, from sleek enterprise notebooks to powerful commercial desktops. Combined, these systems make up the broadest portfolio of AMD processor-based enterprise PCs in the company's history.

At MWC this year, Lenovo announced two new additions to their Yoga line of laptops. The Yoga 730 comes in 13-inch and 15-inch models while the Yoga 530 is only available in the 14-inch flavor. They feature up to Intel's latest 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with the Yoga 730 having the option of coming with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 discrete graphics card. Apart from conventional input methods, consumers can also interact with the Yoga 730 through voice since it comes with built-in Alexa support. The integrated far-field microphone allows Alexa and Cortana to listen and respond to the user with relative ease.

The Yoga 730 is equipped with a UHD IPS touchscreen display while the Yoga 530 is fitted with a FHD IPS touchscreen. Lenovo is also offering the optional Active Pen 2 with up to 4096 levels of sensitivity for those users who love to write, draw, or jot down notes on their laptops. The new Yoga laptops are thinner and lighter than ever too. The 15-inch Yoga 730 comes in at 1.89 kg and the 13-inch model at 1.12 kg. The 14-inch Yoga 530 weighs 1.6 kg. The 13-inch Yoga 730 with Lenovo Active Pen 2 included starts at €999 (VAT included) and the 15-inch model with Lenovo Active Pen 2 included starts at €1,099 (VAT included). The 14-inch Yoga 530 costs around €549 (VAT included). All three models should be available soon on www.lenovo.com and select retailers.

Lenovo has revealed their ruggedized 100e, 300e, and 500e Chromebooks at MWC 2018. These new Chromebooks are built to withstand life's rigors. They feature rubber bumpers that are capable of handling everyday bumps and drops up to 75cm, reinforced ports and hinges and a water-resistant keyboard. Being the entry model, the Lenovo 100e possesses a more conventional laptop design, while the higher-end Lenovo 300e and 500e models come with the iconic 360-degree Yoga hinge which allows users to switch between laptop and tablet mode on the fly. However, the Touch and Pen feature is what really separates the 100e, 300e, and 500e from rival offerings on the market. For example, users can interact with the touch screen on the Lenovo 300e using everyday household objects like pencils, pens, or even paperclips. The Lenovo 500e, on the other hand, comes with an EMR stylus that takes advantage of Google's machine learning algorithm to predict the user's pen stroke to create a lag-less pen experience.

Both the Lenovo 300e and 500e Chromebook are available now on Lenovo.com for $279 and $349, respectively. The Lenovo 100e Chromebook will be available in March 2018 and will carry a $219 price tag. Consumers can purchase all three models shortly through the Lenovo's partners in major countries including the U.S., Germany, Italy, U.K, Spain, Brazil, and Australia.

Lenovo has identified a potential issue with their 14-inch ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Generation laptops that could pose a serious fire hazard to consumers. The manufacturer has sold around 78,000 units in the United States and 5,500 units in Canada. As of January 31, the company has received a total of three reports of overheating, but none of the incidents occured in the United States and Canada. Fortunately, there were no human injury or property damage. According to Lenovo's investigation, the culprit is an unfastened screw, if left unattended, could damage the laptop's battery causing overheating. The recall includes machine types 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 or 20K4 that were manufactured from December 2016 through October 2017. Units manufactured on or after November 1, 2017 are not affected. Owners can find this information on the bottom of the laptop. Lenovo has also launched a recall site for owners to check if their devices are affected.
