At CES, Intel is expected to launch the bulk of its 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" processor family, consisting of "locked" 65 W SKUs; along with two cheaper motherboard chipset options than the Z790—the B760 and H770. The Bx60 chipset options are sought after by the mainstream desktop crowd that likes to buy value sub-$250 processor SKUs, but over the years, motherboard manufacturers have been upscaling Bx60 chipset with premium onboard components, to target the crowd that likes to buy the upper tier of 65 W SKUs (think Core i5-13600, i7-13700, or the top i9-13900 non-K). With the 700-series chipset, however, it looks like the price for entry for the platform has just gone up. The cheapest MSI motherboard based on the B760 chipset, according to a leaked price-list, is USD $170, for a PRO-series motherboard SKU that's usually considered entry-level for MSI.

The MSI PRO B760M-A WiFi DDR4 Micro-ATX motherboard, according to this price-list, goes for $170, followed by the PRO B760-P WiFi DDR4 (ATX form-factor) at $180. From here begins MSI's Gaming series motherboards. There are as many as four MAG Mortar SKUs. At $180, you get the MAG B760M Mortar DDR4. At $190 you get the MAG B760M Mortar (DDR5) and MAG B760M Mortar DDR4 WiFi; followed by the MAG B760M Mortar WiFi (DDR5) at $200. With this series, MSI is introducing a couple of MAG Mortar MAX SKUs, which probably feature better VRM or onboard audio. The DDR4 version is priced at $220, and the DDR5 version at $230. Moving a notch up, we have the popular MAG Tomahawk SKUs, with the DDR4 version at $220, and the DDR5 version at $230. The only MPG series SKU is also the lineup's only Mini-ITX one—the MPG B760I Edge WiFi DDR4, priced at $210.

MSI, the leading brand of gaming products, is launching the MEG Trident X2 with the latest 13th-Gen Intel processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics card. This launch focuses on "Play Unbound". This gaming desktop is equipped with the Intel Core i9 processor, enjoying a 41% of performance increase compared with the previous generation. With RTX 40 Series equipped with the latest Fourth-Gen Tensor Cores, Third-Gen RT Cores, and New Streaming Multiprocessors, the frame rate performance of games has been greatly improved as well. Gamers can play at 100 frames under 4K image quality and with special effects turned on. Designed to completely liberate the next-generation performance, MSI's exclusive HMI (Human Machine Interface) has also ushered in a major upgrade. In addition to the original intuitive operation controls, a 4.5-inch touchscreen and G.I. function are now added.

This MEG Trident X2 is not only equipped with the top-of-the-line i9-13900K processor and RTX 4090 graphics card but also comes with MSI's exclusive Silent Storm Cooling 3 heat dissipation technology, which can effectively reduce the heat generated by components. The Air Baffle design can effectively collect the surrounding cold air and prevent the excess heat inside the chassis from flowing back to the graphics card. It is supplemented by the motherboard's upside-down design so that the graphics card is placed on the top to be cooled by the cold air first.

MSI was conspicuous with its lack of Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards at launch, with neither product announcements, nor even placeholder product pages on its website as of this writing. Rumors started to fly on social media that the company is skipping the RX 7900 series, and that all is not well between MSI and AMD Radeon group. MSI last week laid many of these rumors to rest, with its MSI Gaming Twitter handle quote-tweeting an AMD Radeon handle with the message "Available Soon."

Andreas Schilling of HardwareLuxx.de added more clarity on the issue with some first-hand info: although MSI skipped the December 12/13 launch dates, the company is preparing to release some custom-design RX 7900 series cards, and will present them in Q1-2023. The company is however skipping the launch of reference-design MBA (made by AMD) cards under its own brand—something most other AMD add-in board (AIB) partners did release on December 12. Although AMD directly sells reference-design cards, it also sells them through its AIB partners, by allowing them to use their own brand identity, custom packaging, inclusions, and product warranty specific to the brand.

Intel is expected to launch the B760 chipset alongside a slew of more 13th gen Core CPUs at CES in January, but already details of upcoming motherboards are starting to appear. We've already seen some details about Gigabyte's B760 Aorus Elite and now some very detailed pictures of MSI's upcoming B760 MAG Tomahawk have made an appearance on VideoCardz. The board is a spitting image of its B660 predecessor in terms of layout, but there appear to be some minor changes in terms of header placement.

MSI has also changed the colour scheme for all black to black with some white highlights. The rear I/O cover appears to have changed marginally, but even the heatsinks appear to be nigh on identical to the previous model. The pictures are of the DDR4 version, but there will apparently be a DDR5 version as well of this SKU from MSI. According to the rumour mill, prices of B760 boards will be up about 10 percent over the current B660 models, but nothing has been confirmed as yet.

MSI Afterburner is arguably the most popular graphics card overclocking utility, and the best place to find it is the MSI website. There are several other sites that redistribute the utility, many of them are trustworthy PC enthusiast tech publications; but some of them are not. There are some dubious websites that are using SEO techniques and ad-placements to find their way into online search results, appearing to be download mirrors for MSI Afterburner. While some of these sites are just in it for some web-traffic ad revenue, others downright spoof the MSI website (i.e. are visual clones), and host redistributables of Afterburner, only these have a more sinister motive—to infect you with malware.

Cybersecurity researchers at Cyble identified such spoof websites that are visually identical to the MSI website; which host modified versions of the Afterburner software laced with malware. This malware can infect your PC with a multitude of bad stuff, including cryptojacking (using your PC's system resources to mine cryptocurrency for the attacker); and data-theft. Cyble deconstructed the malware-laced Afterburner installer in a bid to identify its nature. Apparently it uses Monero XMR miner software to mine cryptocurrency. Apparently the attacker repackaged Afterburner into a custom installer that, in addition to installing Afterburner, fetches XMR miner from the Internet and infects Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) with a cryptojacking payload. The easiest way to avoid this is sticking to known sources such as the MSI website (www.msi.com); or known websites authorized to redistribute Afterburner. If infected, SFC (system file checker), coupled with Windows Defender or other popular antivirus software should help.

If LG's 45-inch OLED monitor isn't quite big enough for you, MSI might have what you've been waiting for, as the company has teased its upcoming Project 491C 49-inch QD-OLED monitor on Twitter. This is yet another massive OLED display that supports 240 Hz refresh rate, but beyond that, the company didn't share any real details of the display. The company has apparently already won a CES 2023 innovation award for the monitor, although we couldn't find any details about it on the CES website. MSI will apparently reveal the full details of the display at CES in January, so we're going to have to wait until then for the full details. We should note that this is the second QD-OLED display from MSI, which announced the 34-inch MEG 342C earlier this year.

Here are some of the first pictures of MSI's custom-design GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards. The company is giving the RTX 4080 (formerly known as the RTX 4080 16 GB); custom-designs across three of its graphics card brands. Leading the pack is the RTX 4080 SUPRIM X and RTX 4080 SUPRIM; in the middle are the RTX 4080 Gaming X and RTX 4080 Gaming; and at the entry-level at the RTX 4080 Ventus 3X, and the RTX 4080 Ventus 3X OC. The Ventus 3X is expected to stick to NVIDIA reference speeds, with the Ventus 3X OC having a mild factory-overclock. The RTX 4080 Gaming has a similar overclock to the Ventus 3X OC, but with a superior cooling solution that's splashed with RGB LEDs. The RTX 4080 Gaming X has a higher factory-overclock grade. The RTX 4080 SUPRIM has a similar factory-overclock to the Gaming X, but with MSI's top SUPRIM cooling solution; while the SUPRIM X has the company's highest factory-overclock grade.

The RTX 4080 SUPRIM and SUPRIM X feature a similar-looking board design to that of the RTX 4090 SUPRIM X, with a meaty 4-slot cooling solution, premium multi-tone metal shrouds and backplates, and the company's highest-quality PCB components and its top VRM solution. EK, the premium liquid cooling gear manufacturer, is now introducing the ultimate water cooling solution for MSI Trio and Suprim GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards. The EK-Quantum Vector² Trio RTX 4090 D-RGB comes in the form of a water block with a passive backplate or a cooling solution with an active backplate that's sandwiching the card between two water blocks for the best possible cooling results.

The all-new RTX 4090 Trio and Suprim cards are expected to be significantly more powerful than their 30-series counterparts. And while their efficiency is also improved, these cards still pull over 450 W, which means they will benefit even more from water cooling, mainly due to the 4 nm production process, which increases thermal density compared to the previous 8 nm chips.

Earlier today, we reported a story on MSI increasing the price of its GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X graphics card from its $1,750 MSRP to $1,935 in just a week following its market availability (more importantly, just a week after the card heaped praise for being a well-priced custom flagship product). This development first appeared on Reddit, where keen-eyed Redditor Jmulcahey spotted the price-hike first. The $1,935 price appeared on the company's US online store (a first-party retailer), where any changes in prices are taken to be changes in the MSRP.

MSI responded to the development, saying that the increased price on the MSI US online store was the result of a miscommunication, that the MSRP of the RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X remains at $1,750; and more importantly, that the company will refund the price-difference to anyone who purchased the card at the increased price of $1,935 (i.e. a $185 refund). The company released a statement to TechPowerUp, which we are posting verbatim below.

MSI debuted its flagship GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X graphics card to gleaming reviews as one of the few custom-design RTX 4090 cards that fits inside a 2-slot design, freeing up expansion slots on your motherboard, thanks to its AIO liquid cooling solution. One of the most striking aspects of the card was its MSRP of USD $1,750, a mere $150 (9% premium), which made the card look like an overall great purchase, given that ASUS was pricing the air-cooled 4-slot ROG Strix RTX 4090 OC at $2,000 (25% premium). This had an impact on the SUPRIM's performance-per-Dollar calculations in reviews, in relation to pricier options. It turns out that MSI has revised the price of the RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X a mere 1 week into its launch, increasing it by $185.

The card is now priced at $1,935 (20% premium over NVIDIA baseline), closer to that of the ASUS ROG Strix. This isn't a marked-up price by a retailer, but the latest price on MSI's first-party online store for the US market. Price premiums of custom-design RTX 4090 cards have been conservative across the board, particularly for a flagship card like the SUPRIM Liquid X, but a price revision this soon after launch doesn't go down well with buyers, and makes it seem like the card was underpriced just for the reviews—something ASUS avoided when they priced the ROG Strix at $2,000 right off the bat. And yes, we are mindful of the concept of introductory pricing, but only when it's advertised as such. An introductory price is meant to be disclosed to be as such, making buyers [and reviewers] aware that the card's actual MSRP is something else/higher. When we contact companies for pricing to use in our reviews, we clearly seek MSRPs, and not introductory pricing for the company to sell a tiny inventory at low prices, only to raise them a week later.Update 10:26 UTC: The price on the MSI website is now back to $1750. US retailer B&H has kindly provided the first B650 motherboard pricing and it's something of a mixed bag. The company has listed no less than seven different models from MSI, ranging in price from US$199.99 to US$329.99. It doesn't appear as if any of these boards are based on the B650E chipset, but based on information TPU were given at Computex, we know that some higher-end B650 boards will cost around the same as some lower-end B650E boards.

As B&H has only listed key features of the boards, it's hard to tell what features some of the boards offer, but the base model is the mATX Pro B650M-A WiFi, which at the very least has one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot and two M.2 slots. The board obviously also has WiFi 6E and somewhat surprisingly has 2.5 Gbps Ethernet. On the other hand, it only has a front header for a USB-C port and none around the back. This type of board was supposed to start at or below the US$150 mark and we'll hopefully see a transition to there in due time.

MSI is announcing today the brand-new 13th Gen Intel Core Processors will bring along a whole new series of Z790 chipset motherboards, which include the MEG Series, MPG Series, MAG Series, and PRO Series as well. MSI's Z790 motherboards paired with 13th Gen Intel Core Processors are here to bring more efficient computing and fine-tuning on the success of the last generation of CPUs. 13th Gen Intel Core Processors are still built on their "Intel 7" Hybrid Architecture Process Technology. This generation has increased the number of efficiency cores by bringing up to 24 Cores, 32 Threads on a single CPU. L3 Cache has also been slightly bumped up to 36 MB, but more importantly, the memory frequency will support from DDR5-5600-MHz out of the box. On launch, there will be 3 models available which are the i9-13900K, i7-13700K, and the i5-13600K.

The AM5 motherboard prices that cropped up over the weekend do indeed appear to be placeholders or early cash grab pricing, as MSI has revealed its official pricing for four of its upcoming motherboards in a live stream. Although the pricing is still very high, it's not as insanely high as the early listing suggested. Starting at the bottom with the Pro X670-P WiFi, we're looking at a US MSRP of US$329 excluding tax and an EU MSRP of €395 including VAT. Next up we have the MPG X670E Carbon WiFi for US$499/€599, which is a steep jump in the eurozone, but it's actually less than what the current exchange rate from US dollar to Euro is, if you add 20 percent VAT.

This is followed by the MEG X670E ACE for US$799/€969, which doesn't look like a particularly attractive option. Finally we have the MEG X670E Godlike, which retails for US$1299/€1599, but with early listings in Europe showing it at €2399. It puts the Godlike more in line with the previous Godlike board from MSI, but it's likely to be one of the most expensive X670E boards on the market. It's mentioned in the live stream that prices are expected to come down sometime after the initial launch and this is something we've also heard from other motherboard vendors. MSI aren't mincing any words about their pricing, but that's not going to help anyone interested in getting onboard AMD's AM5 platform. If you've been keen on finding out some more details about the upcoming Z790 based motherboards for Intel's upcoming 13th gen Core processors, then we got good news for you. VideoCardz got hold of a treasure trove of board pictures from ASUS, ASRock and MSI for those interested in taking a look at what will be on offer next month from Intel's partners. There are no big surprises when it comes to the leaked board models, but there are one or two things that are worth pointing out.

The ASUS leak is limited to four boards, two Prime models, one TUF board and the ROG Maximus Z790 Hero, which is unlikely to be the top-of-the-range board. ASUS seems to have held back a bit with the Hero board compared to its AM5 equivalent, but it's a bit hard to tell from the picture. ASRock is carrying over its limited edition Carrara look for its Z790 Taichi board and ASRock will also have a Mini-ITX board with Thunderbolt 4 support. MSI will also offer a Mini-ITX board, with a black PCB and white heatsinks and a white rear I/O shield. No additional specs were provided, outside of what can be seen in the pictures. With only a couple of days to go until the official retail availability of the Ryzen 7000-series CPUs and accompanying X670 and X670E motherboards, early pricing of the motherboards are starting to crop up in Europe. Courtesy of @momomo_us we now have pricing from an unknown European retailer for 11 ASUS models, as well as MSI's Godlike board. We also managed to dig up some additional pricing over at Geizhals, which is a European price comparison site, for five ASRock models and one from Gigabyte. Hopefully we're looking at placeholder pricing here, as it's not looking good in terms of value for money. Admittedly, ASUS is known for charging a premium over its competitors, but it's not looking good anywhere right now.

Starting with @momomo_us pricing and MSI for no specific reason, its upcoming MEG X670E Godlike is listed at €2,399 and that doesn't include any kind of liquid cooling accessories. This has to be one of the most expensive consumer motherboards ever, if this is the actual retail pricing it'll sell for. Moving over to ASUS, its Prime X670-P model is listed at €418.53, with the WiFi version jumping to €446.89. This is the first indicator that these are not the actual retail prices, as WiFi versions of motherboards tend to have a $/€/£10-20 premium over non-WiFi models. We're not going to go over every individual board price here, simply look at the attached pictures, but based on these early prices, ASUS has two models for well over €1,000, the ROG Crosshair X670E Hero and the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme, with the latter being listed at €1,486.95.
