MSI's Other Socket FM2 Motherboards Pictured

Apart from the premium A85XA-G65, and mini-ITX A85IA-E53, MSI has two other mainstream socket FM2 motherboards, the A85MA-E35, and A55M-P33 (F2).

The A85MA-E35, like its mini-ITX cousin, has a misleading name. It is actually based on the AMD A75 FCH chipset. The socket FM2 APU is powered by a simple 5-phase VRM, it is wired to just the two DDR3 DIMM slots, and a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot. Other slots include two PCI-Express 2.0 x1 and a legacy PCI. Display outputs include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. All six SATA 6 Gb/s ports from the FCH are wired out as internal ones, the board features a total of four USB 3.0 ports.

MSI Shows off A85XA-G65 Socket FM2 Motherboard

MSI showed off its top socket FM2 motherboard, the A85XA-G65. Based on the AMD A85 FCH chipset, the board supports upcoming AMD "Trinity" APUs in the FM2 package. MSI designed the A85XA-G65 with its Military Class III construction. The FM2 APU is powered by an 8-phase VRM. It is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting dual-channel DDR3-1866 MHz memory; and two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots (x8/x8, when both are populated). Given that it supports both NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFire, it's a little strange that MSI didn't name this model "A85XA-GD65." Other expansion slots include three PCI-Express 2.0 x1 and two legacy PCI.

All eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports from the A85 FCH are wired out as internal ports, with no eSATA. Display outputs include one each of DVI, D-Sub, HDMI, and DisplayPort. Other connectivity options include four USB 3.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, and 8+2 channel HD audio. The A85XA-G65 features quite a few OC-friendly features, including voltage-measurement points with lead-holders, OC Genie, ClickBIOS II UEFI BIOS, etc. It will be among MSI's first socket FM2 motherboards to be launched, a little later this quarter.

MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning Pictured

MSI's new Big Bang MPower line of motherboards were shown to public with a matching pair of graphics cards, the already launched R7970 Lightning, and the upcoming N680GTX Lightning. Based on the GeForce GTX 680, the card is expected to feature >10% higher out of the box clock speeds, with 2 GB of memory. Like its cousin from the red camp, it features MSI's swanky new black+yellow Twin Frozr IV cooling solution, and Unlocked Digital Power VRM, which gives users fine control over GPU, memory, and PLL (auxiliary) power domains using Afterburner software. The new card will be launched in the coming weeks.

MSI Big Bang MPower Motherboard Series Detailed

Late last week, we came across teaser pictures of a certain new Big Bang series motherboard. Our source didn't reveal its name, but mentioned that we were close in guessing its name to be "ZPower", which we admitted we could go wrong with. It turns out that the new line is named "MPower", and includes not just a new socket LGA1155 motherboard, the Z77 MPower, but also a new LGA2011 one, the X79 MPower. The two are beefed-up versions of the Z77A-GD65 and X79A-GD65 (8D), respectively, with stronger CPU VRM, relaxed warranties that are overclocker-friendly, and a new black+yellow color-scheme, which is consistent with that of its Lightning series graphics cards (such as the R7970 Lightning).

MSI Announces GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition Graphics Card

Leading mainboard and graphics card maker MSI today announced the release of its GTX 670 Power Edition (P/N: N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC and N670GTX PE 2GD5) graphics card. The new GTX 670 Power Edition is based on the MSI Power Edition architecture which incorporates Triple Overvoltage, a strengthened PWM enabling an impressive 22.5% boost in overclocking potential compared to the reference design. The new Twin Frozr IV Thermal Design keeps the card cool and MSI's exclusive Dust Removal technology ensures that the cooling module remains free of dust for optimal cooling performance.

In addition, Propeller Blade technology offers 20% more air flow than conventional fans, effectively reducing temperatures by up to 20°C and noise levels by 11.7dB. The MSI GTX 670 Power Edition uses Military Class III components that give overclockers a level of quality and stability they can count on. The power, cooling, and other components of the MSI GTX 670 Power Edition incorporate more functions and technologies than the reference board, making it the choice of those looking for superior overclocking performance.

MSI Working On "Letexo" Variant of its Own

At IDF Beijing, 2012, Intel unveiled a large selection of its upcoming Ultrabook designs, including what it referred to as "Letexo," a sliding-Ultrabook, which bridges the gap between high-performance Windows 8 tablets, and Ultrabooks (devices with keyboards). MSI is working on one such device, which lays to rest the looming question of whether the company plans to do Ultrabook PCs. The unnamed Letexo by MSI was unveiled as a teaser picture, earlier today. The device is a fully functional Windows 8 tablet, driven by Intel architecture, a comfortable and responsive chiclet keyboard slides out, when you have a lot of typing to do. We expect to see this device at Computex.

MSI Big Bang ZPower Motherboard Teased

MSI is working on its first Big Bang series motherboard based on the Intel Z77 Express chipset, supporting Core "Ivy Bridge" and "Sandy Bridge" processors in the LGA1155 package, which is called Big Bang ZPower (we could be wrong with the name), carrying an MSI internal model number MS-7751 v 3.0. The model number seems to suggest that the PCB design is similar to that of the Z77A-GD65. For now we only have two cutout teaser pictures with us.

The pictures reveal the ZPower to be a bustling metropolis with a swanky heatsink design that keeps up with the theme of MSI's Lightning series graphics cards. The motherboard will be designed for 3-way multi-GPU setups, although a PLX-made bridge chip won't be used. Instead it will use Pericom PCIe lane switches to split the x16 link from the processor into x8/x8/NC or x8/x4/x4. The focus of this board will be towards overclocking, a lot of overclocker-friendly features, options (in the UEFI BIOS setup program), and a strong VRM will be added to the mix. MSI is likely to exhibit the new motherboard at the upcoming Computex event.

MSI GeForce GTX 670 Pictured Up Close

Here are the first pictures of MSI GeForce GTX 670. The GTX 670 will be NVIDIA's third SKU based on the GK104, and will be positioned to compete with AMD Radeon HD 7950. The card pictured below is nearly identical to a Leadtek-branded one that was pictured last week, which leads us to believe that this could very well be NVIDIA reference design, with just MSI's sticker on. One can deduce, by the location of the two 6-pin PCIe power connectors, that this card also uses a different PCB layout from the one GeForce GTX 680 does.

The source also mentions some specifications, some of which we know from older reports, some of which we don't. The card packs 1344 CUDA cores, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs, a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface holding 2 GB of memory, and clock-speeds of 900 MHz (core base), 1250 MHz actual or 5.00 GHz effective GDDR5 memory. It is predicted that future non-reference designs could come in much shorter PCBs thanks to rather slim VRM requirements, and just 8 memory chips, the GPU package isn't too big, either. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort. So the ability to set up 3D Vision Surround from one card could remain intact. Lastly, the box mentions "OC Edition", and so the card could come with out of the box overclocked speeds. There's also a juicy typo on that box.
