MSI Readies N480GTX Lightning Graphics Card

Here is MSI's latest creation, the N480GTX Lightning. This GeForce GTX 480 based monstrosity is geared for extreme overclocking, and caters to the highest-end consumer segments, but at a surprisingly modest price (relatively) of $550. It features a factory-overclocked GTX 480 GPU clocked at 750/1500/1000(4000) MHz, with standard memory amount of 1.5 GB across a 384-bit wide memory interface, 480 CUDA cores, and 4-way SLI support. Where the fun kicks in is its design. The card uses a beastly-looking dual-fan double-slot air cooler that makes use of dense aluminum fin arrays, and distributed heat zones.

MSI Readies GeForce GTX 460 1 GB HAWK Graphics Card

MSI is readying its newest non-reference graphics card based on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 GPU, the overclocker-friendly N460GTX HAWK 1 GB. This is MSI's second non-reference design after the N460GTX Cyclone series. It features a beefier VRM that facilitates overclocking close to (or over) 25% of the reference speeds. The card is cooled by MSI's well known Twin-Frozr II GPU cooler. The cooler is claimed by the company to reduce temperatures by as much as 18°C and run 15.7% quieter compared to NVIDIA reference cooler.

Under the hood is a VRM that makes use of a 7+1 phase design with MSI's Solid State Chokes (SSCs), which don't give out high-pitched noise (translating into energy loss) during load. The SSCs are backed by high-C capacitors. The clock speeds out of the box are 780 MHz (core), 1560 MHz (CUDA core), and 900/3600 effective MHz (memory). MSI Readies New 870A Fuzion Power Edition

MSI is readying yet another socket AM3 motherboard that features the Lucid Hydra chip, called the 870A Fuzion Power Edition. MSI had earlier launched a motherboard with nearly the same features called the 870A Fuzion. The 'new' motherboard from MSI uses the AMD 770 northbridge with the SB850 southbridge, a confusing name. The Lucid Hydra LT22102 chip that lets you pair two different ATI or NVIDIA graphics cards in ATI+ATI, NVIDIA+NVIDIA, and ATI+NVIDIA configurations. What's new with this board, however, is that a few components have been relocated, and the CPU VRM has been upgraded to 10+1 phases with high-C capacitors.

Expansion slots include two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (full-bandwidth), three PCI-E x1, and one PCI. Connectivity includes 8-channel HD audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF connectors, USB 3.0 (one on the rear panel, one internal port), gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, and a number of USB 2.0 ports. With the SB850 southbridge the motherboard has six internal SATA 6 Gb/s ports. The pricing of this board is expected to be around the 170 EUR mark, which is about 45 EUR more than that of the 870A Fuzion.

MSI Unveils the Water Cooling-Ready N480GTX HydroGen Graphics Card

MSI is readying the high-end HydroGen variant of its GeForce GTX 480 graphics card that is built for water-cooling. It comes with a factory-fitted full-coverage copper water block that cools the GF100 GPU, the 12 memory chips, and the VRM, which make for the bulk of the card's heat producing parts. Internally, the block uses a micro-fin channel over the GPU area to increase surface area of heat dissipation. The block is ready for the G 1/4" threads.

Besides the water block, the card sticks to reference speeds with 700 MHz core, 1401 MHz CUDA cores, and 3696 MHz memory. Like every other GTX 480 card, it packs 480 CUDA cores, and addresses 1,536 MB of memory across a 384-bit wide GDDR5 interface. UK-based store Scan.co.uk listed the graphics card for £445.89 (incl. VAT), which amounts to US $694.

MSI Shows Off WindPad 100 Tablet PC

MSI's entry to the reinvigorated tablet PC market is the WindPad 100, which gets showcased at the IFA event in Berlin. Unlike tablets such as the Apple iPad, the MSI WindPad 100 is based on the Intel x86 architecture, running Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. The tablet features a multi-touchscreen 10.1" display, and is loaded with connectors in all sides, such as USB 2.0, an SDHC-compatible card reader, front-facing 1.3 megapixel webcam and HDMI to connect to displays and projectors.

Under its hood is a second-generation Intel Atom Z530 processor, 2 GB of DDR3 memory, and possible HDD/SSD options for storage. Connectivity for the tablet includes USB 2.0, 3G HSDPA, and WiFi b/g/n, though it can be expanded by an optional dock, which lets you convert the tablet to a desktop PC. The dock provides USB 2.0, audio expansion, gigabit Ethernet, D-Sub and HDMI display outputs, apart from doubling up as the tablet's battery-charging cradle.

MSI Intros Low-Profile Radeon HD 5670 Graphics Card

MSI unveiled a new low-profile graphics card based on the ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics processor. The MSI R5670-PD512 uses a half-height PCB and [apparently] single-slot design. It uses a dual 40 mm fan-based air cooler that bears some resemblance to the Twin Frozr II cooler, only a lot more compact. The card has 512 MB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface. The Radeon HD 5670 is DirectX 11 compliant, and packs 400 stream processors. Display outputs include DVI-D, HDMI with 7.1 channel audio, and detachable D-Sub. MSI Readies GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone OC Graphics Card

MSI's GeForce GTX 460 lineup will include a non-reference design graphics card right from the start (when NVIDIA announces the GTX 460), with the company allowing partners to come up with their own product designs. The N460GTX Cyclone 768D5/OC from MSI, as the name suggests, is a GeForce GTX 460 768MB factory-overclocked graphics card, which makes use of MSI's iconic Cyclone GPU cooler.
