For those waiting for a 5K2K or 5120 x 2160 gaming monitor, it seems like you're going to have to wait a while longer yet, as LG's latest addition in the ultrawide 4K category is targeting professional users. The 39.7-inch Nano IPS based display tops out at a brightness of 300 cd/m² and it has a typical IPS contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a response time of 5 ms grey to grey, with a colour gamut that meets 90 percent of the DCI-P3 standard. Rather interestingly, it has a maximum refresh rate of a rather unusual 72 Hz, rather than the somewhat more common 75 Hz and there's support for AMD FreeSync for those that still want to game on the monitor. The panel is curved, but LG doesn't mention the actual curvature, but a guess would be somewhere between 1800R to 1500R.

However, what makes this display stand out is that it features Thunderbolt 4 and it can be daisy chained with a second, identical display, although this drops the refresh rate down to 60 Hz on both panels. It delivers up to 96 Watts of power over the Thunderbolt port, which means it would power most notebooks that don't feature a discrete GPU. Other connectivity options include a single DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI ports, which are limited to 3440 x 1440 resolution, a pair of USB 3.0 ports on the side as well as a headphone jack around the back. The display also has a pair of integrated 10 W speakers and sports a stand with height, tilt and swivel adjustments. The 40WP95CP-W is said to retail for around €1,339, but most retailers seem to list it for around €1,400 or more at the moment.

For those looking for a more sizable display, LG has just released the 49WQ95C-W, which is a curved 49-inch dual QHD Nano IPS based monitor with a 144 Hz refresh rate. It's part of LG's UltraWide series of monitors rather than its UltraGear series, but it should still be suitable for gaming, even though that isn't its primary target market. There's support for FreeSync Premium Pro and the display is also G-Sync compatible, although LG doesn't provide a refresh rate range, only the upper refresh rate of 144 Hz. The response time is 5 ms GtG. LG has also thrown in some of its more gamer focused features such as dynamic action sync which reduces input lag, black stabilizer and a crosshair function.

The 32:9 panel has a colour gamut that meets 98 percent of the DCI-P3 standard, a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a typical brightness of 400 cd/m². The panel is DisplayHDR 400 certified and LG claims the 49WQ95C-W is factory colour calibrated. Connectivity consists of two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DP 1.4, as well as a USB Type-C port that also supports 90 W power delivery. For some odd reason, LG only added a USB 2.0 Type-B upstreams port, yet there are two USB Type-A 3.0 downstreams ports. The monitor also has a headphone jack, as well as a pair of 10 W speakers built in. The stand supports height adjustment, as well as tilt and swivel. LG didn't provide any official pricing.

AOC today announced two new monitors for its high-performance AGON branding. The AOC AGON AG273QXP is a 27", Nano IPS affair with its 1440p resolution pixels ticking at a 165 Hz refresh rate (and 1 ms response time,s no less). FreeSync Premium is in the cards, with the 16:9 panel offering a very impressive 133% sRGB and 98% of both AdobeRGB and DCI-P3 gamut coverage. Brigthness is set at a typical 350 cd/m², which means only HDR support (and not HDR display). The stand offers pivot, rotation, swivel and tilt adjustments, and boasts of a 75 mm VESA mount support. The back of the monitor features RGB ambient lighting, and I/O-wise, we're looking at 2x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0, a USB-hub with 2x USB 3.2 ports, 1x 3.5 mm headphone jack and no speakers. The AOC AGON AG273QXP will retail for 489€.

The second monitor is the AOC AGON AG251FZ2E. It sports a 24,5" TN panel with 1080p resolution, running at a 240 Hz refresh rate. The typical 1 ms response time can be further reduced to 0.5 ms due to black frame insertion and strobe lighting. brightness is slightly higher at 400 cd/m², though there is, again, no HDR display (and not even support, if specs are correct). Color coverage on the TN panel is objectively and expectedly worse than that of the Nano IPS entrant to the AGON brand, with only 102% sRGB/BT.709 coverage for the AGON AG251FZ2E. I/O is ensured by 2x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x HDMI 1.4, 1x DVI, 1x VGA, 1x 3.5 mm, and a USB hub of 4x USB 3.0 ports. Pivot, rotation, swivel and tilt adjustments are available for the stand (the one with a single base plate in the pictures below), as is a 100 mm VESA mount support. The AOC AGON AG251FZ2E will retail for €409.

LG Electronics (LG) is bringing new meaning to immersive gaming with its new UltraGear (model 27GN950), the world's first 4K IPS 1 millisecond Gray-to-Gray (GTG) gaming monitor. A 2020 CES Innovation Award and Red Dot Design Award winner, the 27-inch model more than lives up to UltraGear's name and reputation for gaming excellence and is a worthy successor to the brand's first 1 ms GTG IPS gaming monitor (model 27GL850) introduced last year. LG today launched their new 38WN95C-W monitor, right alongside a more barebones offering (38WN95C-G) and a gaming-oriented cousin, the 38WN95C-B. Differences are small between the three, so we'll get into the nitty-gritty with the 38WN95C-W. This monitor features a 38" Nano IPS panel with a quoted 1 ms response time, which offers what LG calls QHD+ (3840 x 1600) resolution and an up to 170 Hz refresh rate (via overclocking through the monitor's own OSD; the original, non-overclocked refresh rate stands at a still very respectable 144 Hz). The monitor supports Active-Sync technologies in the form of AMD's FreeSync and NVIDIA's G-Sync via the now ubiquitous "G-Sync Compatible" program, albeit with a VRR range set between 48 Hz and 144 Hz) with LFC (Low Framerate Compensation). There's a 1000:1 contrast ratio, a VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification (activated in lieu of the typical 450 cd/m² brightness) and 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage.

The monitor offers tilt and height adjustment, a 100mm VESA mount, and I/O is taken care of by 1x Thunderbolt 3 (high speed USB-C with DP Alt mode and PD), 1x DP 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, 2x USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream), and 1x 3.5 mm headphone jack (besides the usual 2x 2 W speakers). The 'G' model lacks the Thunderbolt 3 port and additional HDMI 2.0 port of this model. The 38WN95C-G's only difference to this monitor is the lack of the ThunderBolt port and only 1x HDMI 2.0. The gaming-centric version, the 38WN95C-B, further cuts the built-in speakers - but offers an RGB ring for added bling. The LG 38WN95C-W is already available for pre-order with prices starting at $1,599.

HP today announced the Omen 27i monitor, which promises to deliver a well-rounded amount of features for a not bank-breaking price. The Omen 27i packs a 27" panel (as the name implies) of the Nano IPS type. HP says this means the panel covers a wider color gamut (the company claims a 98% DCI-P3 coverage. This Nano IPS panel is able to achieve 165 Hz refresh rates with a 1 ms response time. That, paired with Adaptive Sync (HP markets it simply as G-Sync compatible), means this is a pretty well-rounded gaming monitor. The 1000:1 contrast ratio, while not particularly impressive, isn't all that bad either. A maximum brightness set at 350 nits, however, means you can lay your HDR dreams to rest.

I/O-wise, we're looking at 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 2x USB 3.0 (upstream) and 1x USB 3.0 (downstream). There's an RGB-lighting diamond on the back of the unit, providing you with some amount of bling. The Omen 27i will be available for $499.

LG introduced the UltraGear 34GN850-B, a 34-inch, 21:9, curved, ultra-wide gaming monitor, a revision of the UltraGear 34GN850, denoted by the "-B" in the model name. The monitor uses a Nano-IPS panel by LG Display, which offers UWQHD (3440 x 1440 pixels) resolution. The panel offers 144 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms (GTG) response time, and support for a constellation of proprietary features: AMD FreeSync 2 Premium, NVIDIA G-SYNC (compatible), HDR10, DisplayHDR 400.

The UltraGear 34GN850-B offers coverage of 98% of DCI-P3 color gamut, 10 bpc (1.07 billion colors), and feature such as Dynamic Action Sync (lag reduction), Black Stabilizer (improves visibility in dark areas of the scene), and overlay crosshair. Other specs include 178°/178° viewing-angles, 1,000:1 static- and dynamic mega-contrast ratios; and 400 cd/m² maximum brightness. Non-display features include a 2-port USB 3.0 hub, a headset stand, and VESA wall-mounts. Display inputs include two HDMI 2.0 and a DisplayPort. It is available from late-April at an unknown price, although the original 34GN850 can be found around $900 in some places.

LG at its pre-CES show showed off the UltraGear 38GL950G it announced back in September, a 38-inch curved ultrawide monitor that's recommended for motorsport gaming (racing games). With a 21:9 aspect ratio, and WQHD+ (3840 x 1600 pixels) resolution, the 38GL950G offers 144 Hz refresh-rate (up to 175 Hz possible with overclocking), and 1 ms response-time. The monitor is also NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible. The Nano IPS panel provides 98% DCI-P3 coverage and is DisplayHDR 400 certified. Also featured is Sphere Lighting 2.0, the latest version of LG's ambient lighting technology that uses circular RGB LED diffusers behind the panel.

MSI launched their latest monitor, in the form of the PS341WU Prestige monitor. This one comes in an all-white design with gold MSI accents - a welcome departure from the usual black color scheme preferred for these particular peripherals. The Prestige has been built with screen real-estate and color accuracy in mind - a monitor designed purely for gaming this is not. Its 21:9 aspect ratio is already slightly hit or miss in official game support, compounded by the 60 Hz refresh rate and 5 ms response time.

The monitor makes up for this for professionals or casual gamers (and aren't most of us?) due to its resolution and color rendition, tough: 5120 x 2160 pixels covering 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 100% sRGB. DisplayHDR 600 certification is also on board, meaning up to 600 nits peak brightness and high-contrast HDR content delivery. The monitor's contrast ratio is set at 1,200:1, and support for display of 1.07 billion colors. Connectivity stands at 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort, 1x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type A, 1x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type B, 1x 3.5 mm headphone jack, mic in and an audio jack. It's currently available for preorder in select retailers for $1,199.99.

In yet another entry to LG's (still upcoming) UltraGear lineup of gaming monitors, the curtains have been shoved aside for the 27GL850G to make its first appearance. While49" and 38" monitors are all well and good, and LG does have the specs on them to make them attractive buying options, some users don't really like to have that big a black mirror in front of them. And that's where the 27" diagonal of the LG 27GL850G comes in handy.

The panel is of the Nano IPS type, with a 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution and support for a 160 Hz refresh rate (after overclocking, via the embedded OSD, from the native 144 Hz ). NVIDIA G-SYNC is present, supporting a variable refresh rate range of 30 - 160Hz. A 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles, and a flicker-free enhanced phosphor backlight round out the specs.It's expected that the 27GL850G, via its Nano IPS tech, covers ~98% DCI-P3 (~135%) color space. Red LED lighting is present on the back of the monitor. A VESA mount is present, and tilt, height and pivot adjustments are possible. 1x DP, 1x HDMI, 2x USB 3.0 ports (with fast-charging - plus 1x USB 3.0 upstream port), a 3.5mm headphone jack and DC power input (external power brick) are present as well.

LG at CES 2019 is set to announce two new monitors on its "Ultra" lineup, which includes the UltraWide and UltraGear product lines. The UltraWide is pretty self-explanatory, and will be populated by the 49WL95 monitor, a 49" IPS, dual QHD (5120 x 1440) resolution panel with a 32:9 aspect ratio (there's support for up to three PbP modes simultaneously, thus making this a triple monitor setup, should you so choose). 99% coverage of the sRGB color space ensures faithful color reproduction. There's also support for HDR10 content, though the typical brightness of the monitor stands at 350 nits (peak brightness not disclosed). Connectors stand at 1x USB-C, 2x HDMI 1x DP, and 4x USB 3.0.

The second monitor is on LGs UltraGear lineup. The 38GL950G features LG's Nano IPS technology and support for NVIDIA G-Sync and 144 Hz refresh rate. It has a 38" diagonal across a curved panel, a WQHD+ (3840 x 1600) resolution, and a more standard (or is that less wide?) 21:9 aspect ratio. A typical 450 nits brightness means this monitor also supports HDR content, and connectors include 1x HDMI, 1x DP, and 3x USB 3.0 (1 up / 2 down). If any of these monitor ticks your "I want it now" boxes, you might want to wait until CES for the actual announcement and availability info.

LG today at CES announced a new introduction to its monitor lineup. The 34WK95 continues the company's foray into the 5K market, this time with a UltraWide part, which delivers a 21:9 aspect ratio that should improve productivity in some more horizontal-dependent workloads. The 34WK95 is a 34" affair with HDR600 support, and Thunderbolt 3 capabilities for daisy-chain of multiple monitors or connection of other Thunderbolt 3 devices. The 5K resolution (5120x2160) and Nano IPS display technology mean LG is confident in the color reproduction and viewing angles of this monitor for professionals. The monitor features a four-edgeless design (with ultra slim bezels on all sides), and the typical LG half-moon stand has been redesigned with metal instead of plastic, and should offer increased stability.
