Japanese distributor Sanwa Supply introduced a new laptop cooling pad designed for large notebooks, the 400-CLN020. Almost the entire top area of the pad has a perforated metal surface, it encloses a large 200 mm low-RPM fan that provides sufficient air flow over a large surface area, without needing several smaller fans to do the job. The fan spins at 700 RPM ±10%, and is quiet enough to not spoil video-chats, according to its makers. Measuring 390 x 280 x 60 mm (WxDxH), the 400-CLN020 weighs about 600 g. Yesterday Samsung officially introduces the Ivy Bridge-based Series 7 CHRONOS 17 laptop but, through its Canadian website, it also exposed the 15-inch model of the same series. The notebook revealed by Samsung Canada is known as NP700Z5CH and it features a durable aluminum case, a 15.6-inch SuperBright 300nit (1600 x 900) LED-backlit display, a 2.3 GHz Core i7-3615QM processor, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GT 640M 1 GB graphics card, a DVD writer, and a 1 TB (5400 RPM) hard drive which is paired up with 8 GB of ExpressCache NAND memory.

The 15-inch Series 7 CHRONOS weights 2.4 kg and also features a 4-in-1 card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, 2 W x 2 speakers, a subwoofer, two USB 3.0 ports, and an 8-cell battery. The laptop's price tag has yet to be announced.

ASUS is working on an AMD-powered notebook under the K53TK line. Kingston launched a fleet of new system-specific SO-DIMM memory packages. The new packages make it easy for ground-store buyers to pick the right memory for their notebooks off the rack, with minimal help from the storekeepers. ASUS and Pegatron are headed for a complete split as far as motherboards and notebooks are concerned. Following reports of ASUSTek divesting in its former part and partner after split, Pegatron, ASUS plans to end manufacturing of its motherboards by it. ASUS will find other ODMs, such as Cal-Comp, ECS, Global-Brands Manufacture, and Info-Tek Corp. Pegatron is a notable ODM of motherboards, notebooks, AIO PCs, and other PC components. ASUS is also working to get its notebooks manufactured by ODMs such as Foxconn, Quanta, and Compal, while reducing its orders to Pegatron. This move could see further independence of ASUS and Pegatron from each other.

With eager OEMs such as ASUSTek, HP, Acer, and Lenovo breathing down its neck, Intel is reportedly pulling forward the official launch date of its 3rd Generation Core processor family based on 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" silicon, to the 23rd of April, from its older date of 29th April. 23rd April will be the day Intel announces all its processor models originally slated for the 29th.

Notebook OEMs are expected to launch their products based on these chips at the earliest, by May. The date of market-availability of these chips in the retail channel, however, remains unclear. One possibility is that Intel will announce and make these chips available on the same day (23rd), while another possibility is that it announces these chips on the 23rd, allows the media to digest them (by posting reviews), and open them up for sale on the 29th. Two models every PC enthusiast and their cat are looking out for, are the Core i7-3770K and Core i5-3570K.
