While most laptops and notebooks now offer a 60 Hz refresh rate, Samsung Display announced today that it will mass produce the world's first 90 Hz OLED laptops in the first quarter of this year. Samsung Display Chief Executive Officer Joo Sun Choi said that the company will initially produce very large quantities of 14-inch, 90 Hz OLED displays destined for laptops and notebooks, beginning in March.

"OLED display panels can best satisfy the diverse consumer needs for laptops used in telework, online education, video streaming, and gaming," the company said. Samsung Display said it is helping to introduce a major shift in the market as it collaborates closely with global manufacturers to achieve a new level of excellence for refresh rates in laptops, beginning this year.

Samsung this year aims to bring OLED panels in laptops closer to mainstream, with the company already announcing it would be scaling its OLED screens to serve the 13,3-16" diagonal-craving population with the best visual quality available. The company is apparently aiming to take this further by investing into under-display webcams, which would prevent machines from shipping with large top bezel designs engineered to accommodate them. It also skirts implementation of other, more exotic solutions such as the one found in the Huawei Matebook X Pro - where the webcam is located in a mechanical pop-up on the keyboard area, and mostly shows viewers the inside of your nostrils.

Samsung says that this under-display design should allow laptop makers to achieve up to 93 percent screen-to-body ratio for an immersive viewing experience. Do keep in mind that such a design was implemented only once in the industry in ZTE's Axon 20 smartphone, which incidentally featured diminished selfie camera and display quality due to it being under-display, which even led to resolution compromises on the area of the display that sits over the camera. The idea in ZTE's phone - and is the same for Samsung here - is that the segment of the OLED display that covers the camera will turn translucent whenever the optics are activated. In the ZTE phone, this resulted in clear quality compromises. We'll see if Samsung fares better. There is currently no time to market on such OLED panels, however.

Alienware, the gaming division of Dell Technologies, has today announced a lineup refresh, meaning that all of the existing products will get upgraded to versions with the latest hardware. And to start off, the company has equipped their thin and powerful Alienware m15 R4 and m17 R4 laptops with the latest hardware we saw announced just yesterday. The laptops are equipped with 12-phase voltage regulation modules to power the newest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 series of mobile GPUs. To pair with a strong GPU, Alienware decided to use 10th generation Intel Comet Lake-H designs. These new laptops can be equipped with up to 4 TB of PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD storage and up to 32 GB of 2933 MHz RAM. For display, options range from FHD LCD to a 4K OLED panel and 360 Hz refresh rate for the m17 R4 model.

LG Electronics (LG) announces a planned partnership with Google to bring Stadia to its latest webOS smart TVs in the second half of this year. After Stadia comes to Google TV, LG will be the first TV manufacturer to natively support Stadia gameplay via webOS.

LG is demonstrating its commitment to supporting premium gaming on its state-of-the-art displays, made even more compelling with support for 4k and 5.1 surround sound for Stadia Pro users. Laptop screens are usually considered to be slightly behind the bend compared to TVs or PC monitors when it comes to technology and specs. For one, most laptops still ship with a 1080p panel; if you want a higher-resolution, your next best bet is in looking at a 4K panel, though these do usually max out at 60 Hz. Some 1440p panels should enter the market this year, though, and that might mean more than just a handful of models sporting higher-than-1080p resolution.

Samsung, however, has just announced that they have begun mass production of laptop-oriented OLED screens. These are being mass-produced at the 13.3" to 16" diagonals, and should mean more options from system integrators in delivering an uncompromised image quality on mobility offerings. For now, it seems these OLED panels will only feature 1080p resolution, in a bid to decrease panel costs and thus increase prevalence of OLED in the display market by catering to lower-priced products and price-conscious customers. There is no word on refresh rates at this time, but Samsung says these OLED panels offer up to 10x higher response rates than the typical laptop LCD screen, whilst offering tempting 120% DCI-P3 coverage and minimum pixel brightness of just 0.0005 nits.

LG Display, the world's leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it will showcase the world's first 48-inch Bendable Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO) optimized for gaming at CES 2021.

The 48-inch Bendable CSO display utilizes OLED's advantages as its paper-thin screen bends and unfolds with a curvature radius of up to 1,000R, meaning that it can be made to bend up to a radius of 1,000 mm without affecting the function of the display. It can therefore be turned into a flat screen while watching TV and used as a curved screen while gaming. The curved display offers a uniform viewing distance from the middle of the screen to its edge, maximizing the visual immersion that is popular among gamers.

EVGA has launched their halo RTX 30-series product in the form of the RTX 3090 KINGPIN Hybrid graphics card. The pricing is there to match as well, at a full, fat $2,000. For that money, you get a hybrid-cooled graphics card that ships with a 360 mm AIO and has an incorporated OLED display for graphics card monitoring (voltages, temperatures and clocks) or animation display. The card also features some of the highest Boost clocks available in the industry for the RTX 3090 SKU, set at 1,920 MHz Boost.

NVIDIA's announcement of the new RTX 3000-series cards has led to simultaneous announcement of add-in card partners with their solutions and custom takes on the same. These typically come in the form of a press release, with common specifications shared and emphasis on the cooling systems as well as other brand-specific features. EVGA was no different, and the PR shows off their new iCX3 cooling technology in it. More interesting to the enthusiasts and overclockers among us is newer information on their halo card- the RTX 3090 K|NGP|N (Kingpin)- with product management director Jacob revealing it will continue to use a hybrid AIO cooler as with the RTX 2080 Ti variant, but with a massive 360 mm radiator and three 120 mm fans for the behemoth GA102 die and accompanying power delivery solution. Xiaomi today unveiled what it considers to be the third defining piece of technology for its 10th anniversary - the 55" Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition. As the name implies, and as Xiaomi will pridefully tell you, this is the world's first fully edge-to-edge transparent OLED display - the images are displayed on its transparent screen and thus appear to be "floating in the air" - taking a cue from most science fiction settings. Xiaomi has also taken this opportunity to announce that they've become the first China-based company in the world to produce transparent OLED TVs, as well as China's number one OLED Basic Module (OBM) manufacturer.

Samsung Display Company today revealed new display technology that features a remarkable power-saving function for mobile electronics, being commercialized for the first time in Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G flagship smartphones. The display company has now successfully commercialized its low-power OLED adaptive frequency technology, which can curtail the operating power of a phone's display by as much as 22 percent over existing smartphones now in general use.

"High-definition video streaming and gaming are expanding their capabilities in line with 5G commercialization, creating a widespread need for display panel technologies that can enable greater power savings," said Ho-Jung Lee, Vice President of the mobile display product planning team for Samsung Display. "Our Adaptive Frequency display technology is expected to considerably enhance the user experience by calibrating refresh rates in line with the requirements of a specific application and therein more precisely allocating available power. This will free up time for other smartphone operations," Lee added.

LG Display is a public company that produces LCD and OLED panels for LG and other manufacturers. These OLED screens are used in all manner of devices ranging from phones to 88" TVs. The OLED panels are well regarded for their image quality and characteristics and as such can be found in various high-end monitors and TVs including the recently released 48CX Gaming TV.

LG Display currently produces 70,000 8.5th generation OLED panels per month at its production plant in Paju, Korea. This capacity will almost double to 130,000 sheets monthly with the addition of their new OLED panel production plant in Guangzhou, China. This new plant will be able to further increase production to 160,000 panels monthly when their is sufficient market demand. The 8.5th generation OLED panels measure 2,200 mm x 2,500 mm each which allows LG to produce it's 88" TV but can also fit over 500 phone screens per panel depending on the configuration.

Xiaomi is looking to grab a piece of the premium TV market with the new Master Series. Xiaomi's new flagship TV, to be announced for the Chinese market on July 2nd, will be offering up a 65-inch OLED panel with a snappy 120 Hz refresh rate, which means it will be able to take full advantage of next-generation consoles' "up to" 120 Hz FPS delivery. Besides the OLED chops, there's Dolby Certification for both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Other specs include HDMI 2.1, VRR support, and ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode). A quad-core Arm Cortex-A73 custom chip will be powering the TV's graphical and OS processing. Apparently there will be some sort of RGB lighting on the TV's frame, and a metallic remote control with NFC support aims to increase the premium feeling. Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun described it as "Xiaomi's ultra-high-end OLED TV" and "very amazing." Well. We'll have to see now won't we. If it's actual competition to today's premium mainstream LG C9 and Samsung Q90R TVs, it's bound to sell like hotcakes.

JOLED, a Japanese Display, Sony and Panasonic group, has recently filed patent infringement lawsuits against Samsung. The fillings against Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, and Samsung Electronics' U.S. subsidiary, were filed with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas on June 22. There's a concurrent filling against Samsung's German subsidiary running through the District Court of Mannheim in Germany as well. JOLED claims Samsung has been infringing on JOLED's intelectual property on OLED technology (on which the company holds around 4,000 patents) particularly in Samsung Galaxy handsets that have been sold in the US.

We covered JOLED's entrance in to the OLED market back in December 2018. At the time, the company was entering the small-display market with 21.6" offerings. Meanwhile, the company received a 20 billion yen (around $187 million) cash injection from CSOT, a Chinese display company owned by TCL Corporation. This allowed to company to scale its OLED manufacturing for large display panels; the company announced mass production of TV-bound OLED panels on June 19th.

Hot on the heels of the Mono Block for ROG Maximus XII Hero, Bitspower unveiled another, smarter Mono Block product, this time tailor-made for the ASRock X299E-ITX/ac, one of the only few full-featured socket LGA2066 motherboards in the Mini-ITX form-factor. The Mono Block uses nickel-plated copper with mirror-finish as its primary material, an acrylic top as its secondary material, and a metal top-plate over the top.

The top is studded with addressable RGB LEDs that take in standard 3-pin ARGB input. The top also features an OLED display that can display things such as coolant temperature. A TouchAqua D-RGB multi-function controller module is included, which lets you control lighting and the OLED. The block measures 105 mm x 117 mm x 32 mm. Available now, the Bitspower Mono Block for ASRock X299E-ITX/ac is priced at USD $260.

LG is preparing to launch its latest addition to the gaming lineup of panels and this time it goes big. Preparing to launch this month is LG's 48-inch OLED Gaming TV with 120 HZ refreshing and G-SYNC support. To round up the impressive feature set, LG has priced this panel at $1499, which is a pricey but a tempting buy. Featuring 1 ms response time and low input lag, the 48CX TV is designed for gaming and fits into NVIDIA's Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD) philosophy. Interestingly, the TV uses LG's a9 Gen3 AI processor which does content upscaling so everything can look nice and crisp. Ai is used to "authentically upscale lower resolution content, translating the source to 4K's 8.3+ million pixels. The technology is so good, you might mistake non-4K for true 4K".

Bitspower has announced pre-order availability of its long-named "Bitspower CPU Block Summit ELX for AMD TRX40 Platform with OLED". The Summit ELX block is compatible with both AMD's TRX40 and X399 platforms, so you can deploy it on a last-gen Threadripper and look to upgrade in the future without having to replace your entire watercooling setup.

Bitspowers says the selling points are the OLED illumination and cooling capabilities of this waterblock, with its "clean look and high-density heat sink fin design". The "two-way tunnel design", according to Bitspower, saves you form the hassle of having to route waterways in a specific direction - you are free to routa ientry and exit points of your heatsink as it better suits your PC-building options. The Summit ELX for AMD TRX40 with OLED features a narrow footprint to ensure it doesn't interfere with the RAM slots, as well as a metal top layer and a copper base plate. The lighting elements are compatible with ASUS AURA Sync, GIGABYTE RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light Sync, ASRock Polychrome, and Razer Chroma. The preorder is available for TWD 4,200, which amounts to some $140.

It was only recently that we reported on Samsung's decision to stop manufacturing all the LCD panels and focus on the production of AMOLED and QLED displays. However, it seems like Samsung will not be abandoning the LCD technology completely. According to a report from DigiTimes, we have information that Samsung will continue to offer LCD-based screens, TN-film, various kinds of VA, IPS, etc., by buying the LCD screen from a Japanese multinational company called Sharp. Sharp will be Samsung's only source of these LCD screens, so Samsung will still be able to offer products based on them. It is reported that types of panels in question are meant for the production of television devices, meaning that they are probably bigger-sized panels.

EIZO has announced its flagship monitor, called the Foris Nova, way back in October last year. However, it only was available to the Japanese consumers, and it was a limited run of only 500 units. Today, EIZO announced that it is going to expand the availability of its Foris Nova display to the global market, with more units available and coming. The Chinese market will get the first wave of units and the rest of the world is supposed to follow. Just as a reminder, the Foris Nova is a 21.6-inch 4K OLED display with very interesting characteristics such as 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 0.4 ms response time.
