NVIDIA Releases the Performance-Boosting GeForce 310.33 Beta Driver

Countering AMD's ' Never Settle' driver (the Catalyst 12.11), NVIDIA has today rolled out a new graphics driver that delivers performance improvements of up to 15% for GeForce GTX 600 Series cards. New NVIDIA GeForce 304.48 Beta Drivers Improve Performance, Fix V-Sync Issues

NVIDIA released the GeForce 304.48 Beta software suite, which include game-specific performance improvements, and fixes for bugs related to recently launched hardware. To begin with, GeForce 304.48 Beta claims performance improvements as high as 18%. The improvements are tested on GeForce GTX 680 and GeForce GTX 560, and are specific to game titles such as Batman Arkham City, Dragon Age 2, Lost Planet 2, STALKER: Call of Pripyat; SLI profiles were improved for games such as Battlefield 3 and The Witcher 2. The exact performance improvement numbers claimed by NVIDIA are charted below.

In addition to performance improvements, NVIDIA released fixes for outstanding issues, such as micro-stutter noted by some GeForce GTX 600 "Kepler" users in games with v-sync enabled; under-clocking of factory-overclocked graphics cards by certain manufacturers; and a performance issue with Total War: Shogun 2, with its latest patch enabled. NVIDIA Releases the 301.10 WHQL Driver for the GeForce GTX 680

Since the GTX 680 will be launched later today, NVIDIA has decided to go ahead and publish the first (official) driver that supports its Kepler-powered card. Known as 301.10, this driver is WHQL certified, it only knows the GeForce GTX 680 (you'll need a modified inf file for 'expanded' support), and is bundled with the PhysX System Software v9.12.0213 (plus HD Audio v1.3.12.0).

NVIDIA and Gearbox Have Something In Store for PDXLAN

On the website of PDXLAN, a popular annual gaming LAN event, the organizers posted that NVIDIA and Gearbox Software are bringing something "really special", and that attendees are in for a treat that "will blow their mind" (sic). The more likely possibility is that the two unveil a new Gearbox title which is takes advantage of NVIDIA PhysX; the much-lesser likely possibility is that NVIDIA will demo this game on unannounced hardware. NVIDIA is known for unveiling new hardware to small crowds at gaming events such as these, and we wouldn't be surprised if NVIDIA does something similar.

NVIDIA Releases the GeForce 295.51 Beta Driver

Leaving AMD to deliver on the hardware front, NVIDIA has today rolled out its first official graphics driver of 2012, the beta-tagged GeForce 295.51. This build has support for GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 series desktop cards and for ION GPUs, it comes with updated versions of the PhysX software (v9.11.1111) and HD Audio driver (1.3.12.0), and it brings new and up-to-date SLI and 3D Vision profiles.
